    He's not my candidate.

Are you going to be fair and post links describing the practices of Muslims (for those who believe Obama to be a Muslim)? We only need to look at his economic policies to know how Black Liberation Theology (ala Wright) is lived out by Obama.

Please listen to me when I say this:

LDS temples are not prayer closets. They are elaborate structures where temple-worthy Mormons go to be anointed and take part in secretive rituals they must not speak of.

Mormonism is a dangerous cult that has made extra efforts over the last years to present themselves as "mainstream Christian" to become more acceptable.

The longer you're in, the more you are taught.

Nobody on this board should purposefully remain blind to the LDS/Mormon beliefs, let alone accept them as Christian.

    Romney is a cult member.

Elect him as the leader of this country if you choose, but have the guts to call his "religion" what it is. Go learn about it if you do not know, then come back on here and proclaim that you honestly believe that Jesus was who he said he was, that the gospel message is true, and that you believe the LDS faith is part of Christianity and teaches the truth about salvation, how it is obtained, and who Jesus IS.

If you learn the truth and still would let those words proceed out of your mouth, it would be an immediate cause to immediately stop and have a very deep conversation with your Creator in a (real) prayer closet.

I'm sorry, Gina. Evidently I wasn't clear in the point I was trying to make.

    ---------------------------

Deleted, as I need let a little time pass before making further response to your public chastisement and demand for a declaration of my faith.

Freedom of religion (the right or the wrong kind) is a big part of what makes America, "America".

There is a good reason that our forefathers did not make religion an acid test for public office.

Yes, Mormonism is a cult. It is like all other false religions. I see nothing more dangerous there than Obama and his ilk bringing in Sharia.

How is Mormonism any more dangerous than the Jehovah's Witnesses, or the Scientology, or the Unification Church?

BALONEY!!! BO is a reprehensible liar & a mountbank....but now you are drawing ridiculous conclusions that are not there. That Obama has any inkling to ushering in Sharia is absurd. Why, half of his administration is Jewish....the feasibility of even suggesting that is ludicrous.

The strength of my conviction on this issue comes from having been part of the LDS faith and subsequently leaving it.

I wish it was possible to share what I thought and felt both there and out when out of it...the betrayal felt when more of their "truth" became clear, the horrible guilt, the sense of loss, the nightmare of remembering me setting my precious child on my lap and teaching her to revere the memory of Joseph Smith.

It's almost nightmarish to be surrounded by fellow believers who are vociferously supporting Romney. I can SEE people running to fire, to danger, but I can't force anyone to see it for what it is. Maybe most have to have been in a cult to understand how powerful and dangerous they are on every level.

Ah, now that gives your previous statement context. But we aren't supporting Mormonism when we vote for Romney any more than those who voted for Obama supported Liberation Theology.

    How do you figure?

We are given the right to choose our physical king, called a President in this nation.

As Christians, we try to choose a leader we feel represents who we are and what we desire.

Our identity, who we are, and what we desire, is based on who we follow in our spiritual life.

    That would be Christ.

Christianity should permeate every aspect of our being, every fiber of our lives. Presidents make decisions that MUST be based in a type of morality. They represent us.

It's not okay to say that our king's morality doesn't need to come from Christianity, that someone from a cult has the capacity to represent who we are and what is in our best interest.

The Christian vote...it's a major responsibility and it doesn't seem as if people are giving it proper thought.

The strongest thing we all probably could have done, the most powerful thing that I think the majority of us failed at...including myself, would have been to pray for a true Christian candidate or for one of the running ones to come to faith.

To the one and only TRUE faith, that is.

I edited to add this: In my thoughts, the most dangerous thing Satan does is disguise himself as an angel of light. Keeping with that idea, what the LDS church has made an extreme effort to do is line themselves up in the eyes of the public as the same religion as Christian. A lot of what they tell new people or put out is very good! It sounds wonderful and like Christian values. Some of the values certainly are the same and there are concepts they succeed at where we as Christians fail.
That muddies things and from the outside, and even on the inside for a while, it looks very close to the truth.
That makes it difficult to have good discernment when it comes to spotting them as a false religion, yet that is what it is. It's easier for me and many others to see obvious falseness, such as one can see in the faith claimed by the extremist groups.

Please remember that even when one does right, if it is not done with the mindset that it is for the glory of the one true G-d, it is still wrong. The LDS church believes that a human worked his way up to being the god for this world. It places Jesus and Lucifer as brothers and says the only reason Jesus was chosen was because he said he would sacrifice himself and give the glory to that god, while Lucifer wanted to do it for his own glory. According to the LDS faith, Jesus was also a polygamist and just one in a line of prophets. According to the LDS faith, Joseph Smith was the prophet for our times and we cannot enter heaven without the permission of Joseph Smith, as he holds the key to heaven for those in our time period. Jesus was simply one in a line of prophets.

There is so much more, but make that your start when you consider who you want to represent your country. You cannot take your faith out of one aspect of your life and keep it in another. Christianity is an all or nothing deal.

You know I've wondered about this quite a bit lately. As Christians who do we fear more Obama or God?

Gina, why didn't you tell me this, rather than attacking my knowledge of the LDS and even more serious an issue, questioning my faith? You don't know how difficult it was to keep my hands off the keyboard when first reading that I should go to my (real) prayer closet.

From your testimony, I can see why you'd have such a strong reaction, however that does not give you authority nor the responsibility to demand brothers and sisters in Christ tell you "who Jesus IS". I didn't watch the OP video because it appears that ethics were violated to put what is private into public view. IMO there are boundries that those in the body of Christ shouldn't cross. Especially when it's done for political reasons. What kind of testimony is that with regards to our walk with our Saviour?

Do we not consider and most likely demand that what a church member tells a pastor in private, be kept private? The only possible exception, and that's questionable, is when a member is committing child abuse (or equivalent) and the pastor has a legal obligation to bring it to a stop.

A church member confides in a pastor and it is secretly recorded and then released to the public. Should we applaude the release? Should we condem anyone who doesn't support that release? Should we question the faith of anyone who doesn't approve the release of what is to be kept "secret"? While the circumstances are different, the concept is parallel to this illustration. Yet, in essence that's exactly what you've done when I declined to watch the video.

On to another point. Neither Obama nor Romney is under consideration to become the pastor of our local church.

While their religious beliefs are part of what we should take into consideration, there's so much more to consider. Just as it was when John Kennedy ran for office. I remember that election and those crying that he would turn this country into a Catholic nation. In the eyes of some his faith was the sole basis to consider.

If Romney wins, don't forget that the ACLU probably has initial drafts prepared to challenge anything, ever how slight, that has an implication of promoting his faith as public policy. If he wins, his beliefs will be under a microscope. People on all sides will mount challenges. If he wants to run for a 2nd term, he will have to stay very low key.

Just as Obama did. Obama won't have that restriction if he wins his second term. Whatever Obama believes, he will have the freedom to openly practice/endorse same. It won't matter how many oppose whatever he believes. He won't be running for president again.

Gina, while I now better understand your situtation, please don't make assumptions about others. Never assume that another individual doesn't know about LDS temples. Never assume that another individual doesn't know about Joseph Smith. Never assume that because he or she doesn't share your deep conviction, that they don't know "who Jesus IS".

Oldtimer, the comment about the REAL prayer closet is NOT meant as an attack. I am saying that you and I, as true believers, have a real prayer closet. The temple the worth LDS members have is not a real prayer closet.

An attack or questioning of your personal faith is not my intention. My intention is to educate those that may not know about the LDS faith and why it should be considered dangerous, then if they go and learn and still don't call it what it is, at that point, the person should step back and examine their beliefs because something would be wrong.

LDS ethics were violated. No filming is to be done in the temple as the rites are secretive. Is it ethical for someone to violate that rule in order to expose the truth? I'm not sure, but reason and logic tell me that if something is being done in secret and claimed to be of Christ, it ain't good and should be brought to light!

The LDS church does not believe Jesus to be the same as the Bible claims him to be and what/who we as Christians believe he is. If one is to claim that the LDS faith is Christian, then it is crucial that they be honest and say they do not believe Jesus is who he said he was and who the Bible says he was, because that is a major step away from Christianity. If I'm having discussions with someone who claims to be a Christian, I'd like them to be up front and say that they do not believe that. Wouldn't you want the same?

I have no idea where that is coming from. The LDS temple is not a place that has a pastor and people go to have private conversations with a pastor. It is there for rituals. That is why one must be temple-worthy already to even enter and all confessions already made and rules adhered to before your card is issued to declare you in good standing.

No fear. You won't see a personal conversation between a pastor and a member if this is a video of what happens in the temple. You're going to see anointing, new names given, baptisms by proxy, etc., unless it is a wedding ceremony or other closed matters that are held.

I have a problem with that. Why would I want someone to represent me if they aren't a Christian? Shouldn't that be the very first consideration? If someone is a Christian, the rest of their values should pretty much just fall in line. Why bring someone with so much authority into that position in our country if they aren't first and foremost living in the fear of G-d?

I do not assume that people here do not know who Jesus is. I fear that many do not realize that the LDS church does not believe who Jesus is.

How is Mormonism any more dangerous than the Jehovah's Witnesses, or the Scientology, or the Unification Church?

Mormonism and Scientology gnostic in the sense that they have levels of membership with more secret stuff at every level. The JWs are openly wrong, not secretly wrong.
