You are joking, right? The only groups which might construe "Christian" more narrowly than BB might be Catholics, Christian Reconstructionists, and the Mormons.

No, as the Mormons church has been involved in 'dialoging" with Christians for years, and the church has gone closer to them than rejecting them outright!

I believe the Mormons are in the same catagory as JW's. Mary Baker Eddy's group, The Hari Krishnas, etc etc.

    A full blown heretical cult.

Those who study Mormonism and its history find a very interesting dichotomy. The church was founded on the principle that every other flavor in Christendom was spawned in the pit of hell. That rhetoric remained prominent for most of their history and continued on down through the times of Bruce R. McConkie. If you asked the old school Mormons "Are Protestants Christians?" they would have replied with a resounding "No!" Why? Because only Mormons truly followed God, so only they were actually Christians.

If you ask the average Mormon today whether Protestants are Christians, they will now offer a resounding "Yes!" My personal assessment is that it stems from the church's desire to break more into mainstream culture; hard to do that if you aren't playing nicely with others.

This change in attitude results in some painful cognitive dissonance for those LDS folks who try to be honest about their church's past teachings but nevertheless claim this new found kinship with Protestants (and RCC and Eastern Orthodox believers as well).

The change makes for an incredibly interesting study. I hope to pursue a more concerted study of the issue in the form of a doc dissertation someday.

    Compare LDS to the RCC...

BOTH have leadership that calims Apostolic succession
BoTH have extra biblical sources of revelation
BOTH teach salvation by grace mingled with good works
BOTH claim to be true church

    Mere Coincidence, or?

I gave my opinion on this a couple of weeks ago:

    http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=81911

Mormon doctrine is not strictly Christian, but I believe from long association with Mormons in my own family that SOME Mormons are genuine Christians. I give Mitt Romney the benefit of the doubt.

No, the Mormon faith is not Christian. I disagree that the RCC is in the same catagory. There is much to disagree with about the RCC, but the RCC does not believe that Jesus Christ is not God, and that Jesus is a created being, like the LDS do. Big difference.

What do you do with how Christ defines eternal life in John 17:3?

Jn. 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Remember, Mitt Romney was not merely a Mormon but one in charge of teaching Mormon doctrine - a pastor for nearly 10 years.

A very fundemental doctrine of Mormonism is self-conceptualization of personal godhood equal to Jesus Christ or the Father or as their prophet states it:

"As God was man is and as God is man shall become."

Mormonism believes in a DIFFERENT GOD than revealed in the Bible - The God of the Bible says no gods existed before Him and none will be formed after Him - but I alone am God!

Mormonism is idolatry at its core.

Having come from a cult, I know 1st hand the destruction & desolation to the entire world a successful one can be. It creeps thru every element of morality & perverts peoples world views. Nope...they are very dangerous places to be.

ONLY Mormons that are really Christians would be in spite of their doctrines, as NONE are saved that adhere and hold to those strictly, and they need to leave that church immediatantly!

Was Gov Romney confirmed as being a pastor VERY commited Mormon, faithful to LDS teachings though?

That is why its dangerous when we start these "dialogs" with Mormons, as think many are getting deluded to taking the PR spin and seeing them as also being Christians, just a "little bit weird!"
