I've seen stories here that the president was going to declare martial law in order to postpone or cancel the election. We are now only 11 days days from Election Day.

When is he going to declare martial law?

All he needs is a crisis, and he has thru January 2013.

When the rioting starts in the streets because he loses?

Okay. Gotcha. He's not going to prevent the election but override it.

I don't believe that I said anything about overriding the election.

You asked about imposing martial law - I proposed a possible scenario.

It is conceivable that wide spread civil unrest could result in Obama declaring marital law to quell the uprising - and then still hand the reins to Romney on schedule. No?

Okay - fair point. I guess that could happen, but with this guy who knows? Once he has an excuse to seize power why would he let it go?

I still like to think that there are limits to how far Obama supporters would go.

An Obama dictatorship is probably too far even for his most die hard supporters.

Well, the OP was actually based on the supposition that the president would use martial law to stop the election and that is what the question was based on.

All it takes is Israel attacking Iran. They have hinted they may not wait until the next president takes office. They have over two months to act, and I believe at that point by executive order and using the Patriot Act as an excuse, he would declare it too sensitive of a time to switch presidents. He could conceivably be in office for years even if he loses the election.

Wasn't there someone several months ago, maybe even a year or 2, that said he wished Obama was a dictator? I think it was an actor?

Didn't the same thing get said about Clinton at the end of his second term? people were coming up with all sorts of scenarios that he would try to get a third term.

Then he better really get to poking the bear cause he's running out of time. Why not just do a pre-emptive strike before the election and make sure public sentiment is on your side instead of waiting until after a vote?

People were saying the same things about the 2nd Bush election but Bush "fixed" the Supreme Court instead.

Yes I have. Anything is possible with this man. I do not believe it be far fetched. We now have a major storm coming that may hinder voting, especially if this "Perfect Storm" is as bad as predicted. It could be this. Or it could be something with Israel. Or it could be rioting in the streets. Don't forget people are tweeting they are going to assassinate Romney if he is elected, so the risk of civil unrest looms on the horizon. Anything is possible. Obama does not want to give up power and is not adverse to going against the Constitution, Congress, or the Rule of Law, as he has already demonstrated. The Executive Orders are already in place.

Well, it looks like despite the fear-mongering about martial law the election will take place tomorrow.
