Soon after he took office, President Barack Obama began a process ultimately designed to reestablish full US diplomatic relations with Iran, including a reopening of embassies, an Israeli daily reported Sunday. The initiative, part of a wider shift in America’s diplomatic orientation, aimed at reaching understandings with Tehran over suspending its nuclear program, Maariv claimed, citing “two Western diplomats very close to the administration.”

The initiative led to at least two US-Iran meetings, the report said. Israel was made aware of the contacts, and opposed them.

But Iran rebuffed the “diplomatic hand” offered by the White House, Maariv reported. The Islamist regime “opposed any sign of normalization with the US, and refused to grant a ‘prize’ to the Americans,” according to an anonymous Israeli source quoted by the paper.

You assume you can have rational and productive talks with Muslims.
People forget that Clinton's weakness in Somalia is a key failure. It is why Bin Laden began to call the US a paper tiger. The lack of will to stand only made them bolder. They do not respect weakness. The failure to take out Saddam in Desert Storm is another one. We pandered to them, failed to enforce international law and UN resolutions and that lost the war for us. It also made our enemies hate us more and more bold in their attacks.

The United States of America has NO business of any presence whatsoever in Muslim countries. They hate our values, our way of life, and freedom. That goes for diplomatic, private business, or cultural ties. We should have one embassy in the Middle East, in Jerusalem.

We need to stop imposing our values on nations that have no values. Our allies should have something in common with us.

For those that argue a presence is necessary to continue the flow of oil, we should have learned years ago to be independent, and developed other sources. The first time a Muslim country threatened the national security interests of the United States, give them a warning by wiping out a city, then next time, the country. That would put a stop to all of the nonsense. Leave us alone, and we leave you alone.

Why can't we have relations with Muslims countries? There are plenty that are decent and friendly to us-to name some: Turkey, Jordan, Morocco, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Djibouti, Senegal. Our main problems are with the Islamism promoted (in the Wahabbist and Ayatollahist varieties) by Saudi Arabia and Iran and the blind eye Pakistan turns toward terrorists in their country. Many people half a century ago would have sent we couldn't have real relations with communist countries but as it turns out we could and do.

Well the first answer that comes to mind is that there would be four Americans alive that were killed in Libya. The second thought is that 4000 + Americans would be alive that were killed in Iraq. The third reason is that Muslims and we the people have nothing in common. If there has to be a presence, then it should be in only the most moderate states, like Kuwait and Turkey. Why on earth are we spending American tax dollars in or for Pakistan, Iraq, Eygpt, Libya, Sudan, Tunisia, Syria, and indirectly Iran? What do you see as to be gained by this nation to deal with these states? At the same time we play footsie with radical Muslim countries, we shun Israel, the only nation in the region that gives a flip about us.

We have no business imposing our will in other nations. That is no where to be found in the Constitution. As far as your comparison about communist countries, the results of opening up to them has been a mixed bag. First of all, the Soviet Union and China were not quite as insane as radical Muslim states. Today, we are deeply in debt to China, and one day we will pay the piper. One positive thing that did come out of the breakup of the Soviet empire is that we gained a few true allies in Eastern Europe, such as Poland.

Not only are we deeply in debt to China, I can't find a coffee mug at big chain stores that isn't stamped "Made in China". Often laden with lead, US workers are sitting idle, while we sip no telling what along with our coffee. (Reference: countless recalls of dangerous goods imported from China)

Now we are teaching school children Chinese while having to produce Bibles that are easier to read in English.

Russia - Has anything really changed?
Testimony before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs:
Is there any point in going on about the "fruits" efforts to establish relationships with countries and leaders who have publically stated ultimate goals of dominating us?
