Based on this scripture I would believe that we will not know each other as family members in Heaven. Are there any scripture that would cause us to believe that we will recognize family such as brothers, sisters, aunts/uncles and grandma when we get to Heaven?

JUST FOR THE RECORD: THE VERSE ITSELF: v30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

I don't know of specific references that speak of what you ask, but taking this verse to mean we won't know them as such is quite a leap. It does not speak at all about our knowledge, but about the covanant relationship.

I don't see a biblical reason that we will have some sort of amnesia about huge portions of our life (consider a couple that marries at 18 and stays married 69 years (one in our church just died...both very close together). Will that part of their life, which was likely the very essense of the majority of their life, be simply wiped from their memory...I have no reason to think so.

Based on this, I believe I will know my wife and kids for who they are/were, but will no longer be married, but will have the memory of the many blessings of marraige for which to praise and thank God.

Taking your statement farther, would we also have no knowledge of friends? what about non-human things? will we remember what an apple is? or what an airplane is?

I see no reason to think we will have mass amnesia about the majority of our lives once we are in heaven. I personally also don't believe we will forget our sins (some could use the "no tears" to propose this). I think it will be rather like a man who was formerly a drunk but who is now all-the-more grateful for God's deliverance because he remembers what he used to be...I mean after all, we will be singing about Jesus' Murder for eternity!

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

If we recognize Jesus, we may recognize each other.

This was not asked to be provocative, I was asking what scripture do we base the fact that we will know our loved ones in Heaven.

The story of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man went to Hades, Lazarus went to Abraham's bosom. The rich man recognized Lazarus.

22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ --Luke 16

I'm not provoked, just stating why I don't think we will know LESS in heaven (and the new earth, of course) than we currently know.

The rich man had total recall?

he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

Lazarus was in Heaven. The rich man saw him and recognized him. I think this is as close you are going to get to an answer to your question.

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

What do you think about the above scripture?

If we do know who our mother, father, uncle, etc on this earth were, I believe it will have no significance in the presence of Jesus Christ. They will be just like the person you do not know across town.

    I Corinthians 13:12 helps, I think:
This verse suggests to me that we will not know less, but more, in heaven.

Rev. 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Personally, I do not think we will know our parents in heaven as out parents. My mom and dad will not be mom and dad in heaven, but Brother Willis and Sister Sharon, or maybe this new name from the scripture I posted? Is this a literal new name, or figurative name? Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

I'm not sure about this new name...but when we get it, is there any evidence that we will immediately forget our OLD name? Or will it be more like Abram/Abraham...our new name reminds us who we have become, while the memory of our old name reminds us who we were, and how God has changed us?

I still don't see any reason to thing we will have massive amnesia of huge portions of our earthly life.
