In a perfect world it would be great to run an election on issues and let the chips fall where they may, but if one wants to win, one must play many behind the scenes games to pacify a demanding electorate, kind of like the retail industry. Republicans failed to:

    1. Understand the ratios of minorites and voting groups.

    2. Using the most advanced technology, have a superior get out the vote and advertising ideas.

    3. Have every registered voter on file and know something about them.

    4. Nominate candidates who can articulate their positions clearly using common sense. (Look at what happened to Senate control because of the nominees from Indiana and Missouri)

    5. Connect with the majority of the electorate. Do not seem aloof to the average American.

    6. Do not allow your opponent to define your candidate.

    7. Pick candidates that have a record consistant with the issues today.

    8. And most important, do not choose a Presidential candidate that looks like a Lawerence Welk singer, and a Vice President that looks like Count Chocula.

All the talk about Demographics overlooks the reality of this election. Mainly the press that refused to report on stories that made Obama look bad and made sure to report all they could that, in most cases falsely, made Romney look bad. The liberals always cry about big business influence on elections but they ignore the influence of unions. How convenient. The results of this election are about far more than just demographics.

It was just two years ago that conservatives swept the elections. And they reason they did was because the acted like conservatives and did not try to out lib the liberals.

Rev. ... George Will, the conservative columnist disagrees with you.

You are right in that the election was about more than demographics. It was also about not moving too far from the center. Moderates voted for moderation as can be seen in votes for Senators. The Tea Party conservatives took a beating in these elections, winning only one ... in Texas ... while loosing all the others. If the GOP and Tea Party do not change their paths this will begin to show up in the elections for the House of Representatives ... but probably not in my lifetime. We WASPS are going to have to learn to live as a minority ... and it will be a hard lesson for many to adjust to this new situation.

Yes, you are right. The Left targeted the challengers in Indiana and Missouri especially. The only thing of which they are guilty is naivete, thinking that a reporter put a mic in their faces for any other reason than to "catch them in their words," i.e., find something they can pervert, a tactic at which the children of Satan are masters, their father being the father of lies.

One thing they fear is the people.

Only those with the subtilty of serpents will prevail.

    blah, blah, blah

The Republicans must become democrats, in other words. Baloney. We may be at the point in this nation where the people have conceded to your brand of apostacy and the resulting tyranny. If so, and if, as the NYT noted, God is Dead, then the Republicans must die out with Him.

If Puerto Rico becomes a state kiss any chance of a conservative getting in again. I would like to see electoral college based on majority of counties in each state. 88 counties in Ohio, 45 wins the state. This way the highly populated areas where the most fraud occurs won't play a major role.

Naivete handed the Senate to Democrats, the exact result this nation does not need. People with no common sense have no business making decisions for others.

Stop whining about the media. Sheesh. Right out of the right wing playbook along with its corollary, "you just know if this was a Republican the media would be all over it."

Take a look at the number of union member in 2012 vs. 1970. Now try to tell us about the influence of unions.

I can agree with this. I'm trying to imagine if Rick Santorum had been the nominee. No way Santorum makes the 47% remark. No way his personal taxes become an issue. No way RomneyCare in Massachusetts becomes an issue. No way does the Cayman Island bank accounts come up. No way does flip-flopping on abortion become an issue. The entire class envy strategy against Romney would have been nullified.

Spot on, which is why I voted for Santorum in the primary. I remember way back in February when it appeared Romney was gaining momentum, I thought to myself that his "richness" and "whiteness" would hamper him big time. After he became the nominee, and especially after the 1st debate, I kind forgot all about this, and I became pretty excited, because I deemed him to be very capable and would do a good job as Pres. And I still do. But I think the rich white guy thing hurt him in the end.

Instead of Ryan-Rubio, maybe a Santorum-Rubio (or even vice versa) would be a good ticket. Neither Santorum and Rubio are rich, and both came from very humble beginnings. And both are conservative.

TYVM. I got the Count Chocula from my son. He lives in Madison, WS and works for a computer company. One of the points I was trying to make is that image is part of the game. The nominee in Indiana defeated Senator Lugar in the primary. Senator Lugar is just as pro life as loud mouth Murdock. Senator Lugar would have won the seat in the general election. It is just that Senator Lugar has common sense.

Well, that will be a cute trick with 45 Republicans and 53 Democrats (plus two Independents that caucus with the Dems.)
