A VERY Happy Wedding @ West Point?

    It's a :tear: day for the US military, now that they have to allow gays to marry.

    What do you think about this most-recent development since the Prez changed the rules, allowing military personnel to "come out of the foot locker?"

    On top of this recent event at an age old military institution, chaplains are not allowed to mention/evoke the name of Jesus in prayers/faith specific prayers [as they now call prayers mentioning the name of our Lord]. With this most-recent development [marrying gay soldiers], if I were a chaplain, I'd for sure resign my commission. Of course, I'm born-again, and believe the Bible to be the inerrant word of God. I don't know how chaplains can condone such orders, especially if they, too, are born again? :type:

    The House has rejected a proposed amendment that would have allowed military chaplains to close public events with faith-specific prayers

    Chaplains are allowed to pray as they see fit - in chapel sponsored services. The above mentioned prohibition is aimed at public events - such as graduations, change of command, ect.
    In addition, a Chaplain cannot be "ordered" to pray at a public event. He may refuse if he sees fit.

    Personally, I believe that chaplains should be allowed to pray as they see fit. but currently, they may not. I trust that will be changed.

    I just want to make clear that in the Chapel - he may do according to his religious beliefs. And that includes any activity. For example, a Baptist Chaplain cannot be required to sprinkle a baby, a Jewish Chaplain would never be made to give "last rites" to a Roman Catholic GI, and ect.

    One last thing - for those of you who insist that DA MUST allow a Chaplain to Pray in the name of Jesus at a PUBLIC Event - would you be ready for a Muslim chaplain to pray to Allah? Be careful what you ask for - you may get it.

    ....that helps to better explain this. I agree with you about the Muslim thing. I'd walk out if that happened. Quietly, of course!
