While the media celebrates artificially inflated job creation numbers and an artificially deflated unemployment rate, out here in the real world, pessimism reigns supreme those who create a majority of our private sector jobs. According to Gallup, not since November of 2008 has the 12-month hiring intent of small-business owners been as low as it is today. In worse news, 21% of small business owners expect to decrease jobs in 2013.

Can you blame them? Imagine being a small business owner today where whenever you turn on the news you find your hardworking self demonized as "rich" -- you know, because you make over $250,000. Moreover, instead of Obama's reckless spending, it's your "selfish" lack of taxpaying blamed for the deficit.

And now you know, one way or another, your taxes are going up.

Yes, imagine those 3% of small business owners that make over $250,000 a year and would fall into this taxing category who must put up with this day after day after day. Doctors, lawyers, dentists, and accountants. It's just too much to bear...

The unemployment rate appears better for all the wrong reasons. The high rate of unemployment that continues to plague our nation is a direct cause of the failed policies and politics of Washington. While the creation of 146,000 jobs is welcome, it is a job creation rate that struggles to keep necessary pace with our population growth. Our problems are further highlighted by an additional 540,000 people who are not in the workforce. Economic growth requires job growth. Our nation’s economy will not recover unless lawmakers work together on solutions that spur economic growth and encourage businesses to hire.

The mixed signals of the past few months of unemployment numbers reveal a sluggish recovery that is in serious jeopardy of falling back into another recession. No matter what category you put people in, there are simply too many of them not working. The best gift that Washington could give unemployed Americans this season is the certainty of what our nation’s job creators will face in next year’s economy. This means ending the brinksmanship surrounding the looming fiscal cliff, and committing to addressing Washington’s unsustainable debt that continues to put the next generation at risk. It’s time the President quit campaigning and join the House and Senate to work toward a compromise on solutions for the betterment of all Americans by developing a plan that will create jobs and bolster our nation’s economic recovery.

    Congressman Daniel Webster

It doesn't just effect those white collar folks. It will also impact farms and ranches, local mechanic shops, and little mom and pop stores.

Using your 3% figure we must understand that this will do no real good for our national debt situation and will be a detriment to those people, their businesses, employees, and customers.

The tax issues added to the Obamacare issues added to the increasing minimum wage (depending on the state) and you have a perfect storm to sink small businesses and further push the recession on the citizens of this nation.

He doesn't care. Obama can do no wrong where taxes are concerned.

Actually, the only thing I agree with Obama on taxes is that the highest earners could pay higher tax rates IF the money raised went to deficit reductions and IF there were deep spending cuts.

I disagree with him on capital gains tax rates, on estate tax rates, on corporate tax rates, on the gas tax, just about every other tax proposal he has.

For anyone to say that raising $80 billion to $100 billion a year by raising tax rates on the wealthy isn't worth the 70,000 jobs that MIGHT get lost as a result is simply being short sighted.

I hope everyone is aware that there are 10,000 people a DAY leaving the workforce via retirement.

Please explain one or two ways the government can encourage businesses to hire.

    Amen to that.

Didn't think that folks in the "retirement" catagory were included in any of the "unemployment numbers". Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you have in mind with the 10,000 relationship to the 540,000. ?? Perhaps the following?

    Here's one: Repeal obamacare.

Here's another: Revamp our trade agreements and start charging tariffs on some trading "partners," especially dollar manipulators, like China.

Businesses don't hire because there are less regulations. Businesses don't hire because the corporate tax rate gets lowered. Businesses hire when demand for their goods and/or services outstrips their current ability to produce, i.e. their labor force is no longer adequate to meet demand.

Right now, because of Obamacare there is a boom in health care industry hiring. Why? Because an estimated 30 million more people will be compelled to have health insurance in the future. Repealing Obamacare would cause a severe drop in the estimated 30 million people that would be required to carry health insurance, leading to health care companies to stop hiring.

Repealing Obamacare would remove uncertainty as to what compliance would cost each business. This could lead to a positive change in the hiring mood of companies not involved in health care.

Charging tariffs on Chinese made goods could create American jobs but only if there were a comparable product being made in the U.S.A. and only if that American made product was cheaper than the Chinese one, after tariffs are paid.

It matters not how much demand there is if the costs of meeting that demand is more than the income brought in by meeting that demand. Trying to separate taxes and regulations from the issue and pretending that the only thing that effects hiring is supply and demand is just ignorance.

OK, I wasn't making my point as clearly as desired. Regulations and taxes do affect hiring to some extent but the main driver is always demand for goods and services.

And yet the ability to hire effects demand. No on will demand more if they cannot pay for more. Demand is effected by the amount of money in the consumers pocket. If the consumer is not working then there is no demand.

It effects it far more than "to some extent."

I thought 47% of the people were getting free stuff anyway--no job needed to create consumer demand.

I wonder how many unemployed people got the new iPhone5 when it came out?
