...I have a hard time understanding how Washington's law on marijuana overrides state law.

Roger, you know Lincoln had that changed, I believe Lee handed his sword over to Grant.

I'm not for marijuana but I believe in state rights so Wa. and Co. have those rights.

The Constitutional guarantee of States Rights was challenged and damaged in the War of Northern Aggression. It is rapidly disappearing under the monstrosity called the Federal Government with the collusion of the Federal Courts and the states simply do not have the guts to stand up for their Constitutional rights.

We have fallen far from the days when Madison and Monroe stood against using federal dollars for state projects.

We have gotten things flipped around. The authority not specified as federal was retained by the states. However, we have a system now that is built on the idea that anything not specified as a states right is assumed to be federal.

Sadly people don't have sense enough to realize that the Federal Government has no money of its own. They TAKE it from the consumer!

The War of Northern Aggression? Are you referring to the American Civil War?

I don't think I've ever heard that name before.

So you guys think that Madison and the founding fathers wanted states rights so that each state could decide to make anything they wanted legal and no one could stop that? I'm not so sure that was their definition of freedom.

Well, they certainly didn't do anything to stop legal alcohol.

From marijuana to 'anything' is quite a stretch.

Yes, I firmly believe that Madison, Adams, etc would have believed the states had a right to legalise marijuana use.

The North also called it the War of the Rebellion - among other names.

In fact many of the battles had differnt names given by the USA and the CSA.

AS to not hijack this thread - chek this link out about who was responsible for the War of 1861-65

This thread is about States/Commonwealth Rights - a concept I fully agree with. A concept that the CSA believed in - and that belief was stated in the indivdual States/Commonwealths when they secceded from the Union, and as stated in a proclimation of the CSA
Note: this link is a fourm website of the Civil War

I suppose the 2nd Revolutionary War might be appropriate but I prefer the War of Northern Aggression! In an effort to avoid the accusation of bias I call it Northern Aggression rather than Yankee Aggression!

    Now just where is Tennessee?

10th Amendment sorts it all out

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

On reconsideration I would agree - the states are pretty much free to do what they want under the constitution. If the feds want to make pot illegal they would need a constitutional amendment, not a congressional vote.

It is next to Kentucky, in the heart of Dixie. South Carolina merely shares a coastline with Massachusettes.

People generally use this when they are upset that the North won the Civil War.
