Years ago, I attended a NRA convention, and the speaker told the crowd that murder by guns would increase and snowball to the point where the government could get the majority of citizens to take their side [in support of] in removing guns from the hands of Americans.

He told us that by making it seem like the nation was out-of-control, citizens would be a knife cutting through hot butter, in that people would be begging for more government intervention and strict control.

I fear that Sandy Hook maybe that one incident where the majority of the people are beginning to feel unsafe, and in order to protect their children and selves, if gun control became a national referendum to be placed before the people for a vote, it just may win.

The most recent mass killing at Sandy Hook is going to be the rallying call of "Remeber the Alamo" among liberals and conservatives, Republicans and Democrats alike as a strong push to get this done [repealing the second amendment] could be on the table in early 2013.

This is of course, just my opinion, so don't rip on me. I am only sharing what I heard maybe 40 years ago, and been witnessing the steady increase in violence on our streets. An increase that is growing with each killing, to the point that Americans are becoming fearful, and it is the fear that if projected correctly, the government will use to ram this change, or repeal of the amendment through with a divided, but victoriuous vote. Can we all say, Obamacare? :type:

It looks to me like the government and media are pushing hard for civil war.

I knew a fella who armed himself with a slingshot------carried it around in his back pocket----in his front pocket he carried 4 or 5 .50caliber musket balls-----as was as accurate with that thing at 50 yards as any police specialist carrying a Glock 9mm------he called his slingshot a "Flip"----sounds funny---BUT you wouldn't want to be standing in front of him when that projectile is sent into orbit

The weapon then is not the issue. It is the heart of the person using the weapon.

    You....

....may be unto something Iv'e pondered over and over the past few years. Especially if they try to take guns away. My friend and good brother in Christ told me they'd have to kill him to get his guns. He plans to not go easy! :tonofbricks:

Another issue I've seen the liberals pushing for over the weekend on the talk shows is they are claiming this isn't the time to cut spending programs because it will keep the required counselling and therapy away from the ones who need it. They specifically spoke about medicaid and mental health programs.

As I've said elsewhere, there will be no repeal of the Second Amendment in the forseeable future. If Columbine didn't result in massive amounts of gun control legislation nor did Virginia Tech what makes you think that Sandy Hook would make any difference with regards to this? Gun control advocates had a chance of winning a few decades ago when the OP attended the NRA meeting. (although they certainly couldn'thave repealed the Second Amendment even then) but now they now increasingly are marginalized as the prohibitionists once were.

Unlike gun control, they may be partially correct about that. A lot of schizophrenic people are out on the streets as a result of deinstitutionalization. If we're going to be putting a lot of them in prisons anyway, why not just institutionalize them in the first place instead of waiting for them to commit a crime (be it murder or something trivial like causing a public disturbance)?

Also violent crime isn't increasing-it has been declining for the last twenty years.

    Gunman's mother was 'doomsday prepper'

The mother and first victim of the Connecticut gunman who took 27 lives including his own was a 'prepper', who prepared for a coming doomsday by stockpiling food and weapons.

    Yahoo7 News

The finger of blame for Friday’s Sandy Hook school massacre has been firmly pointed at gun owners since the very first moments after the tragedy became public, but an additional scapegoat has now been identified – preppers.

    < snip >

It is now being implied that because Marsha Lanza was “self-reliant,” had readied herself for an “economic collapse,” and was proficient with firearms, that this rubbed off on her son and was a driving force behind the massacre.

The obvious inference being made is that anyone who buys storable food, owns firearms and is knowledgeable about societal and economic threats is potentially a mass murderer who needs to be watched very carefully, which is a meme that has already been making the rounds in recent months.

Because Marsha Lanza owned ten guns this means she somehow “stockpiled weapons” as part of her “paranoid” fantasies about doomsday.

    < snip >

Preppers are a prime target for the establishment because they represent the polar opposite of collectivists. With increasing numbers of Americans becoming self-sufficient, a system that draws its power from overly dependent people is naturally inclined to demonize preppers.

    CONTINUE . . .

If we are going to start locking people up for crimes they might commit sometime in the future shouldn't we include everyone the government and media feels is a threat to society? Like "preppers" and "truthers" and "Christians"? There's no shortage of people out there who think we Christians are all mentally ill because we believe in the second coming of Christ.

I don't understand people. You feel "unsafe" so you want to take away an option you have to protect yourself???

This is stupid and people are lazy. They want the government to take care of them and protect them so that they don't have to lift a finger themselves.
