Why Christmas Eve will always be a very special day in my life...

It was the day of my rebirth in Jesus. In John 3:5-8 Jesus tells Nicodemus, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Not only was I born-again on Christmas Eve 1966 [in San Dimas Canyon, later that evening I had an out-of-body experience [one I'll never forget, or doubt] that resulted in my calling to the ministry.

This Christmas Eve will be my birthday in Jesus, and I will be 46 years old. I haven't always been the best witness, nor have I always been a great example for Him and for those around me. In fact, I spent nearly 15 years living in sin, but, in the end, the Great Shepherd, left the flock to find me and bring me [the true prodigal son] back home, placing my feet, solidly on the narrow path, one more time.

When is your birthday in Jesus? It would be a great after thought to this post to have as many of you as possible, comment on the date of your spirit rebirth. Please take a minute and share with all of us here on Back on the Narrow Path!

Your spiritual birthday is the most important decision and day in your spiritual life. If you haven't made that decision to give your heart and life to Jesus, please a pastor -preferrably a Baptist :) - to pray with you . This could be the best Christmas of your entire life and one you will never forget....Shalom! :jesus:

Sometimes I wish I could remember the calendar date of mine. At other times, I'm glad that I can't remember the month, day, and year.

Remember the day, itself, vividly, in my mind. I was a teenager, maybe 15, or so. It was a summer day. All of the church windows were open. For some reason my mother, a Sunday school teacher, couldn't come to church that morning. I went to church with a neighbor.

To make a long story short, that was the morning that I yielded to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Remember walking down the isle and taking the pastor's hand during the alter call. Remember telling him that I'd committed to Christ and him asking if I wanted to join the church. A few minutes later, he called for a vote of the membership. Thus, I became a member.

Then, before the congregation, after the vote, he questioned my "lack of emotion". Can't remember exactly what he said, but I do remember him making a remark that I wasn't showing the emotions that I should be showing if I'd just been saved. At that moment, he implanted a doubt in this teenager's head that took years to overcome.

Next, when I went home and told my mother that I'd joined the church, she made her disappointment known, as she said "I've been waiting a long time to see that happen". Listening to that while being thankful that she wasn't there to hear what the pastor told the congregation, wasn't something that was easy for a teenager to handle.

It's one of the reasons why I drifted away from the church for far too many years. In some sense of the word, I became a "lukewarm" Christian. Looking back, I know Christ was in my life. Looking back, I know, too how satan used the words of that pastor and my mother to his advantage that summer day.

If there is a calendar date for me to use, it would be March 28, 2010. That's the day, I finally listened to one of God's messengers urging a return to a place of worship, fellowship and to grow in His word - WORD. There, I was also finally able to cast aside the lingering doubt that had preyed upon my thoughts for so long a time. To rent the veil, so to speak, to be able to see what (Who) had been in my heart all the while. Patiently waiting for me to, once again, proclaim His presence, as I did that Sunday morning so long ago.

Again, sometimes I wish I could remember the calendar date. However, that's only wishful thinking, as I know that someday while sitting at His feet, He'll tell me, if I still want to know. By then I doubt that I'd think about asking.

Easter Sunday 1980. The sermon was on God's love being the prime motivator for sacrificing His Son for me.

It was a small Baptist church in Yuma, AZ. I can still feel the cold hard metal folding chair I was sitting in. I prayed in the back seat of our blue Dodge K car station wagon on the way home.

It was on Sunday, April 28, 1968 when i was 17. I had read thru John during the Sunday morning service and after the evening service, I realized that without Christ I would go to hell and trusted Christ as Savior.

March 13, 1971. I was 13 years old and at an evangelistic meeting where Bob Harrington, the Chaplain of Bourbon Street, was preaching. After resisting the Holy Spirit for weeks my will crumpled, I repented and put my faith in Christ for forgiveness of my sins. I went forward at the invitation with my mom. It was quite a night!

1971 with the parents in a small Plymouth Brethren Church. I was a wee lad but still remember it pretty clearly.

I was baptized in the same building in 1978. The pool was in the floor, you would step down into it, the entire congregation was circled around and looking down. Once the proverbial question and answer session was finished, the dunk happened and then you'd climb up and out while everyone sang Trust And Obey A Cappella.

Two very vivid memories from a blurry and unhappy time in what's been an otherwise blessed life.

    This is fabulous...

...thanks to all who have shared, and let's keep this going. It is so very important to share your testimony, and no testimony can be better than the one when we were born-again into His family!

Probably about September 1995: I lay in in bed asking God to know Him; I put aside all my pride and told Him that He was the only way I could successfully live my life. I felt a peace instantly come over me that I had never known and felt as if His hand was on my shoulder comforting and guiding me. The next day I was compelled to pick up the Bible which I knew nothing about and suddenly turned to the Words I needed to hear while at the same time witnessing God answering my prayers by speaking to me from the Words in that Book. No one had ever told me I was supposed to remember the exact day. :tonofbricks:

After a about a year of being glued to the Bible I decided to find a church and was Baptized shortly after on December 8th, 1996. I probably wouldn't know that date either but the Pastor wrote the date in my Bible. :D

Don't remember the exact date, although it had to late '64 or early '65, I was either 10 or 11 years old, I accepted Jesus as my Saviour on a Sunday morning at church in Panama City, Florida. I might be wrong on this, but I believe Pastor Hugh Pyle was the preacher I heard that morning.

Reading this thread triggered a memory about another thread from December 2009. I found it. Here's what I wrote then:

All glory to the Lord God, whose beloved Son died on the cross to save sinners just like me. Even today, the memory is strong of a young nine-year-old boy, sitting in a pew with other kids, really not paying attention to the sermon. This boy had heard many sermons on sin and salvation, sat through many invitations, none of which meant much to me.

Suddenly, without warning, the Holy Spirit began his work. First, he illuminated my mind and showed me my sin. Then he began to convict me of the seriousness of my sin and the consequences. Those sermons on Hell began to flood into my mind, and it scared the daylights out of me. What had little impact on me before now made sense. The Spirit began to draw me to repentance and faith.

Then the Spirit moved me out of my pew and down the aisle to the pastor.
Gently, the pastor, Ralph Kerley, asked, "do you understand that you are a sinner."

    Through tears, the answer: "Yesssss."

"Do you understand the consequences of sin?"

    "Yessss."

"Do you repent of your sins and trust Christ alone for your salvation?"

    "Yessss."

That was it. The Lord Jesus had saved me.

    "Sit down over there."

The pastor explained to the church, then presented me for baptism and membership.

That's my testimony. A couple of weeks ago, while visiting my home town, I dropped by that church. At my request, the church secretary found the ledger recording my baptism. April 10, 1947 Tommy Butler. Memories came flooding back as I rejoiced at seeing my name written there.

But what beings even greater joy is the confidence that the Lamb has written my name in His book

Tom, thank you for going back into the past and reposting your testimony.

Tears are bluring my vision, this early Christmas Day morning at your closing comment.

Indeed, the angels did sing Joy to the World, Jesus Christ is born.

    Blessings!
