With the fiscal cliff looming just days away and no agreement, every member of Congress and the President feels they are entitled to a well deserved Christmas vacation. They should be forced to be in Washington to do their job that should have been done months or years ago.

By the way, just a side note, Congress worked 109 days in 2012.

Neither do I. But just for fun check to see how busy your rep will be working during this holiday. You might be surprised.

Did they get over time for all days over one?
I know from being in business, I didn't go home till the job was done. I guess due to from end Of August to around the middle of December was my busiest time of year, I got home very little that time of year. I might have missed Christmas day 15 or 20 times over the years, but I made it home right after most of the time. Their job isn't done so why are they going home?

Bingo, if these self centered pigs had been working some of the 256 days that they were off, maybe the job would be done. If they want to be with their families, sit them around the negotiating table. They can even have a fireplace with chestnuts and silver bells hanging around. Hang up some missletoe so Obama and Boehner can kiss each other when done.

Lets put this into simple terms:

A club has 25 dollars for lunch
    there are 10 members
    Three 2 litters cost $5
Some want diet, others regular or caffeine free
some want Coke, others Pepsi, others Mt Dew and some want Root beer.
A Pizza cost $5- so they can get 4 pizzas.
But when they vote on what to get, there is some
    disagreement.
Some want cheese, pineapple, sausage, double cheese, pepperoni, onions, ham, bacon
Some do not want any of those items.
No matter how they try to compromise - they can not come up with something that at least 7 people can agree on.

Have they been trying - Yes! Have they accomplish anything NO -

Then by golly, it is time for another solution. The lunch should have never been planned without adequate funding. Either dues should have been raised, or everyone pay for their own lunch. Short of that, $25 would have covered a McDonald's value meal.

If I had worked 109 days last year, got nothing done, and then told my boss it was because I could not agree with anyone, what do you think would happen to me?

This is an over simplification that leaves out a couple elements. There are moral concerns here. What the right does not want to budge on is higher taxes. As raising taxes will hurt the economy and create a higher jobless rate thus hurting the American people it would be immoral to raise taxes. What the left does not want to budge on is spending. Again they are in an immoral position because continuing to spend they way things have been hurts people and this country. Obama called Bush unpatriotic for the spending and now he finds himself in a hypocritical position. Again the left is acting in an immoral fashion.

Mark, you are right - I was hoping this might help some people understand.

    So to un-simplify a bit -

Suppose 3 people can not have caffeine, 4 must have diet, another is allergic to root beer

Same with the pizza - some cannot have cheese products, and ect.

There are many different factors involved

Actually SN put it best "The lunch should have never been planned without adequate funding."
This is exact ally what has happened over the past decades - We have been spending without planning and have put the cost on our credit card.
Its time to make major changes - and raising club dues is not the answer. We will have to cut down on the "toppings" of pizza and everyone gets diet caffeine free soda.
We all have to tighten the belt - especially those who are not contributing to the federal Treasury.

 Sometimes I seriously wonder about the work ethic of most of these guys. The period just before the election seems to be the time that they are most active, and much of that is spent campaigning. It's as if they go into hibernation, collecting their paycheck and perks, once they're set for another term.
