I've said many times that John Boehner is going to get owned by the Democrats in the debate over what to do about the fiscal cliff. Here's what I see will happen.

    1. Nothing will get settled before January 1st. The Clinton era tax rates will become law. Your first paycheck of the new year will have a bit less money in it. If you are near the national average that will be about $40 - $45 less in take home pay. The citizenry will be in a furor.

    2. Harry Reid and the democrats in the Senate will take the lead and propose tax cuts for 98% of Americans. That's right, tax cuts for those that make less than $250,000. They will promise to put tax rates back where they were for 98% of Americans. Democrats will take over the mantle as the party of tax cuts. There might be some movement on the income level where the tax cuts expire, perhaps at $400,000 instead of $250,000.

    3. There will be very little talk of spending cuts because the tax rate issue will dominate the news. Quite the contrary, new spending on the unemployment benefits will be extended. Boehner will try to link extension of unemployment benefits to spending cuts, or "pay as you go", but will fail.

    4. The 40 stubborn mules in the House that refused to go along with John Boehner's Plan B will call for his ouster and for a new House leader.

    5. Whoever the House leader is in February will once again use spending cuts as a negotiating tool to bargain with Obama on raising the debt ceiling. Once again no agreement will be reached, the U.S. credit rating will be lowered (again), the stock market will drop like an anchor and THEN there will be token spending cuts agreed to and the debt ceiling raised. I would guess the spending cuts will be equal to whatever new revenues will come from the new tax rates on the wealthy, say, $500 billion over 10 years.

    6. Your 401k and IRA's will have lost about 20% of their value, meaning it will take about 4-5 years to rebound to the levels your account balances were at today. In conjunction with the years 2008-2010 it could turn out to be a lost decade for investments. In the future this will be Obama's legacy--"the lost decade"--along with Obamacare.

    7. The Republican Party will be on their way to obscurity.

    Could be.

Over half the voting public has already shown they are completely brain dead.

Can't be conservative and brain dead both. They are mutually exclusive.

Based upon the last election cycle and not listening to its conservative base, the Republican Party has shown that it s not much different from the Democrats in the lengths it will go to win. The only problem is that the Democrats play the game better.

The economy will bottom out, the Anti-Christ will step in to save the day and god's people will already be gone.

I prefer to believe that God may humble us and bring a revival to America once again.

He could. But the continued wickedness of the church seems to say otherwise. Our response to everything is much the same as the world's.

Like it or not the United States of the 21st century no longer reflects the socio-political make up of the late 19th century. Unfortunately the Republican party can't figure this out. The Democrats have and will be running the country by themselves after the midterms when they win back the House and reestablish their supermajority in the Senate.

Between running a terrible candidate in 2012 in a highly winnable election and the boggling of this fiscal issue (I refuse to call it a cliff, that's a nonsequitor and erroneous illustration) they are being pushed farther and farther away from viability and the ideological center.

The Democrats have no reason not to let the timeline run out. The President got re-elected with a mandate, they retained the Senate because of RNC idiocy, and control the conversation. Gripe about the electorate and malign them all you want but reality is reality. If the Republicans and Boehner want anything they need to gather their leaders, get on the same page, and walk (literally walk) from Capital Hill to the White House and submit their proposal.

This whole affair looks more like the NHL lockout than our leaders leading. We are no longer a profound people and are heading to social oblivion.

That about sums it up. Although i don't think getting a proposal together will help.

I believe you are correct. And it will hinge on what folks are doing now. Are we calling for folks to take up guns as the answer or are we pointing folks to Jesus as the answer?

Those who are chasing after Jesus NOW in the midst of it getting worse will perhaps be sustained and encouraged as things get worse, while those just looking for self-defense and survival may get lost in the war, IMO.

Just so I'm absolutely certain I'm understanding you.

You are saying there will be civil unrest, i.e. street demonstrations and/or rioting because of the fiscal cliff? So that would mean that sometime in the next year or less this will happen?

Is that what you are saying?

I've been saying for a while that a storm is coming and perhaps this will just be part of it. But the economy is already dragging and to turn around and take more money out of peoples checks while the country's credit rating is being downgraded again is gonna cause a mess.

But unless the people of God return to Him, it will happen. we got a glimpse after 9/11 when Wall Street shut down. We got a glimpse after the 2008 economic collapse. Will the next big BOOM be in 2015---since the economic tsunami warnings are coming every 7 years? Will there be all sorts of craziness leading up to that time? Or were those two times all that God will give?

I believe so. Something has to take place that really cripples our economy. And it will take place sooner rather than later.

Another shining example of the left's tolerance of opinions other than their own.

Probably NOT within the next year-----when the country's "Caddy" runs off the cliff---it will take the majority of the citizens a while for it to sink in-----the realization will not come until around the 3rd of the month when "entitlements" usually are sent out----and they are late in coming---and finally will cease to come

The government will simply run out of money to give out "entitlements"----thus--leaving the deprived to themselves

First--we will see a general recession led by inflation and a further devalue of the dollar---and the government will continue to borrow and print and print and print-----until we wind up somewhat like prewar Germany---where the costs of goods were valued in the "Billions of Deutch Marks"----thus making your car more valuable than the money used to buy it!!

Then the world will begin to beg for its savior---and he will come---in the form of an antichrist

This is an equal opportunity board. Both sides are equally intolerant of the other side's opinions. The right's intolerance of the left is exampled more because there are more fiscal and social conservatives on here than there are left wingers.
