Would they really be seen as being "baptist?"

    So. . .

Full Gospel Baptist = Pentecostal spirituality + Baptist structure + Word of Faith (mis)understanding of Scripture

. . .but even their structure is not Baptist:

    How do I "feel?"

Well that's a completely subjective way to gain an assessment of my thoughts on a branch of ministry.

So long as they don't tell me I'm going to the Hell for not speaking in tongues, I'm okay with them. Glory be to God that they are accomplishing Gospel proclamation.

I pastor a "Full Gospel" Southern Baptist Church

Acts 2:42 says, "And they continued stedfastly in the Apostles' Doctine, in fellowship, in breaking of bread, and in prayers"

To me----thats a Full Gospel Southern Baptist Church:wavey::wavey:

That's the kind of Baptist church I attend. In my part of Western Kentucky, I don't know of any Full Gospel Baptist churches. We're across the Ohio River from Southern Illinois, and less than an hour from both Tennessee and Southeast Missouri, and I'm not aware of any there either. Maybe some BB members in those areas can shed more light.

I Am All Things For All People...

...I am ordained Southern Baptist, yet I adhere to a non-denominational approach to ministry. I do speak in tongues; have a recognized gift of prophecy, and firmly believe that my salvation cannot be taken or given away. My name is written in HIs blodd in the Lamb's Book of Life, forever!

I have no problem worshiping or speaking to Baptist groups non-denomiational groups and Full Gospel groups! HOWEVER. I steer clear of the Name-it-Claim-it/Word of Faaith folks, because they are following a doctrine that is not acceptable nor completely in line with the Scriptures that I personally believe and adhere to.

Some may say that I do not follow or practice the Scriptures properly with my gift and use of tongues and prophecy. However, I believe in the gifts. Furthermore, and unequivocally I believe these gifts to be truly of God as I've witnessed them at work, and the blessings they given to those ministered too over the years.

One big spiritual caveat: I never force my beliefs on anyone; however, I do proclaim loud and proud that in order to be a follower of Jesus Christ, you must "Be born-again and water baptised. I also believe that everyone must experience the filling of the Holy Ghost, but as to the type and kind of gifts that come forth and manifest is solely up to our God. I never push, or talk about me specific gifts, but when asked [like in this OP] I am not ashamed to share. As far as any gifts, those are given of God, accordingly, and in line with what the person is able, and capable of believing and receiving and using for His Glory, and not theirs.

Every gift I have been blessed with, has always and only been used to LIFT up Jesus and God, and used only when He gives the unction to do so.

So, yes, I consider myself a full Gopsel Baptist. And I am neither proud nor ashamed of the fact that I am called and used of God to do His work here on earth. :godisgood:

I did check the link. There are probably two dozen such congregations in Kentucky. Only one is in far Western Kentucky, it's 80 miles from Paducah.

I found none in Southern Illinois; they're mostly in the Chicago area; none in Southeast Missouri south of St. Louis (150 miles from Paducah); And a dozen or so in West Tennessee, none within 90 minutes of Paducah.

One thing I did notice is that in a great many cases, the churches do not identify themselves as Baptist. I won't speculate why, just make the observation.

Yeah, the closest to you in Illinois are in East St. Louis.

Tom, there actually was an FGBFA church in Paducah several years ago:

The defunct church's interweb page is still up:

Thanks, Jerome. I was not familiar with that church.

Question. Are a large number of these Full Gospel Baptist churches predominately African-American? Just curious.

What does the amount of melanin in one's skin have to do with anything?

Latent racism is alive and well on planet Earth. There is a lot of ethnic cleansing as well.

Charles Darwin has been defeated. Wake up and smell the coffee.

I must be a half gospel believer.

    Peace,

    Bro. James

Pentacostal/Charasmatic churches might tend to have more black memebers, due to it usually having more "emitional" type of worship and preaching style though...

Still need to make sure that the preaching/teaching lines up with the bible, as MOST pentacostal/Charasmatic does not!

ONe Would Have to Be There....

...to fully comprehend and understand a supernatural calling. For me it is as real as if it just happened. :wavey:

Once again, if what I experienced and what I believe takes precedence over the fact that I've been born-again [yeah, and my names written in the same Book of Life that yours is written in, Icon and EWF], water baptised and filled with the Spirit, then some of you may be reaching far beyond your pay grades. What I experienced after my salvation does not make me more, or less, a brother to all of you, and to think I'm a Caucasian to boot!
