Vice President Biden suggested Wednesday that the White House could take unilateral action on gun control, as he kicked off a round of meetings aimed at finding ways to curb gun violence.

The vice president met Wednesday with gun-safety and victims groups, saying he is "determined" to take "urgent action" to address gun violence.

This is what those of us who value our 2nd Amendment have been saying all along, even before the Newtown tragedy. This president has a history of forcing his agenda regardless of the will of the people and will bypass Congress to do it. We knew it was a real option for Obama concerning gun control. Now we have Biden making the admission openly.

This executive order method of abrogating the constitution, which has always been there but growing in usage for about twenty years, is a truly scary part of the imperial presidency.

Presidents are getting more and more accustomed to this power. The problem is their supporters seem to support them when their man is in power and oppose when the opposition is in power.

No matter what the issue this is a serious threat to the constitution. Of course this president has already shown disregard when he ordered the execution of a US citizen without due process.

This job of the executive branch is to enforce laws, not make them.

    Bravo, Roger !
You put it milder than I would, but perhaps for the better, because having lived under a dictatorship that ruled with Presidential Decrees, I get pretty worked up when I speak out against it.
    Thank you.

That's the problem with Executive Orders, they don't need congressional approval.

I know that. Also, since he won in November we cannot vote him out. The only way to hold him accountable would be through Congressional action, such as impeachment.

I don't know what other peaceful option remains.

This is what liberals do. This is why liberalism is so evil. Their ideas cannot stand the test in the market place so they want to create a "fairness doctrine". They cannot get legislation passed they way they want so the by pass the constitution. When they cannot get their way by reasonable means they world to cram it down your throat. They do not believe in our constitutional republic. They are all minnie dictators at heart. And they need to be defeated. They are evil.

Part of the issue is that the president already had precedent set for his executive orders, he just seems to have stepped it up a gear.

Because of that this is not an impeachable offence.

He needs to be impeached since he is clearly sidestepping congress. The Senate would never do it but the House very well could.

Short of an armed struggle, Obama is here to stay. We have to bear with him for another four (4) years. The thing to do is to be vigilant, and make sure our lawmakers shoot down a proposal in the works that will allow a three term presidency, even a lifetime one.

There is no threat here, the required numbers are too large in Congress and the number of states.

There is a key difference between his other executive orders and the one being proposed now. That difference is this one is a direct attack on a right granted to us in our nation's founding documents.

Would this be the tipping point?

No, because he won't revoke the 2nd amendment. If his ordered killing of US citizen did not tip the country nothing will.

Most people do not see the killing of the US citizen as an issue because it had no direct impact on their life.

A revoking, even a serious infringement, by executive order of the 2nd Amendment will have a huge impact.

I strongly suspect that if he issues an executive order it will be to reactivate the old assault weapons ban.

That would be bad enough, IMO.

Possibly so, in one light, but not enough to merit impeachment proceedings since it has already been law once.

"We're here today to deal with a problem that requires immediate action, urgent action," Biden said at the start of a meeting with leaders from gun control groups and several victims of gun violence.

"The president is going to act. There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet, but we're compiling it all ... as well as legislative action, we believe, is required," he said.

Assault weapons are already banned. An assault rifle fires 3 round bursts and are only legal for government use.

There was an assault weapons ban but it was allowed to expire under the Bush admin.
