Do Calvinists give to mission programs such as Faith Promise, Mana etc and if they do might I ask why? Thank you for your answers.

Yes. Calvinists are very much pro-evangelism.

    Why?
    1. Because we are commanded to do so in the Great Commission. Love breeds obedience.
    2. We do not know who the elect are so we cast a wide net knowing God will gather His sheep.

Rom 10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?
Rom 10:15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!" (NASB)

I don't know what these 2 missions agencies are, but here are a few missions Progams I can say FOR CERTAIN that calvinists give to:

    -ABWE
    -IMB (SBC International missions)
    -Compassion International
    -Pioneer
-Cru (Formerly Campus Crusade for Christ)

Why? Various Reasons, probably lots of the same reasons that Non-calvinists do:
    -Obedience to God
-So people will hear and believe the Gospel
-Because they give to a church and have no idea where that money goes (sad but true)

It is helpful to note from history that 2 of the founders of Baptist Missions (Missionary William Carey & his state-side supporter Andrew Fuller) were both Calvinists, and were the one's pushing the hardest FOR missions.

Nope!! I give to Compassion and to our own missions program at church. We have two regular works that we are actively involved in in Cuba and Nicaragua. We are also actively getting the Gospel out in the community where we have our church campus and since we've started, at least a dozen people have had their lives changed by God.

I believe I did not express my true question in that it is probable that our definitions of missions differs (though I am not sure) when I say missions I am referring to someone who takes the offerings given to them and uses those funds to start a local church in a particular area and teaches those people (whom they bring to Christ over a period of time) to duplicate what the missionary has done for them. In a nut shell giving to missions is one way in which you go into all-the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Starting churches and teaching those churches how to duplicate themselves.

    Thanks for your time

Are you saying that a church sends out its own missionaries to start a church in a particular area? To me, that is the ideal for missions.

That is the ideal model for missions...we (My church, some of whom are calvinists) support the above, as well as several individuals who are planting churches (which they in turn hope to be duplicating churches) in Ohio, New England, India, and elsewhere.

This does not change my earlier answer. My bride and I have done this both through giving to our local church that supports the missions as well as directly to specific missionaries.

In other words "church plant"? The largest church plants that I've seen are out of Calvinistic churches. Right now my husband is the pastor of our church campus that is just about a "plant" of a larger church.

Calvinist or not, here is the rationale for evangelism and missions:
    Romans 1:16
It is the gospel--not Calvininism, Arminianism--which God uses to save people.

    1 Cor. 1:21b
God elects, but does not save independently of means.

Ann, a thumbs-up from you is better than a "like" anytime.

    Thanks.
