"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

    ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

How is this deflection? My post is dead-on on topic.

Facts are pesky things, I guess. It's OK if Bush raises the debt limit by 37% mostly with a Republican majority in the House, but if Obama raises the debt limit at about the same rate then it's wrong.

How is this off topic?

The post is an attempted deflection for more than one reason.

    1. This is Obama's presidency. He owns the mess.
    2. Bush is not the president.
    3. You assume we agreed with the idea when other presidents wanted to do it.
    4. You ignore Obama's own flip flop on this....which is really the topic of the thread.

It is not on topic. It could not be more off topic. The topic is Obama's criticism of Bush on the debt ceiling and then doing the same. Anything other than Obama's criticism of Bush on the debt ceiling is off topic.

    Go Ahead and Raise It....

....Obama's kids and their kids will have to help to pay it from their inheritance

    Deflect and Redirect....

...and leave the rest of us to scratch our heads with your attempts to take the topic off in another direction :BangHead:

Like I said in another comment: Let him raise the ceiling. His kids, their kids and the kids of their kids will have to use his estate to pay down the debt fifty-years from now... :tear: His reckless economic plan will be as bad on his kin as the kin of all Americans in the future.

Obama's legacy will be viewed in the rearview mirror of anger, as half of the paycheck goes to pay down his plan perfect plan to spend America out of debt... :BangHead:

Accurate comparison are not off topic, but give perspective.

In your opinion it seems it is never correct to criticize the GOP, but always correct to criticize Democrats. Quite an dishonest stance.

And Obama was correct in 2006. It is the GOP who has opposed everything he has proposed. All tax and money bills must begin in the House ... which as you may know, is controlled by the GOP. So the GOP is at fault.

No, but you must be embarrassed to be shown up so often else you would not attempt to insult so many on the board.

Judging a person does not define who they are...it defines who you are!

    Off topic again.

The GOP controls the House. Money bills are to start in the House. But the GOP proposes nothing and whines and says "No" whenever Obama makes a proposal. Face the truth Rev. The GOP is an obstructionist party, not a party working for the good of the country.

Where are the smart Republicans, like Marjorie Holt. I voted for her in every election she was in.
