Who has read this book and what did you think about it?

I thought it was okay. It is not a scholarly work IMHO, although it is fine for the average lay person.

What similar book have you read that is scholarly?

Can you do me a favor before I answer your question? I apologize in advance if my skepticism is apparent. I am used to threads on the BB that have hidden agendas. A seemingly innocuous question is asked, but there is hard and fast agenda behind it. Do you have a reason for asking about Boettner's book, or is just mere curiosity?

Well, that one caught me off guard. I have no agendas. The only agenda I have is people who demean and insult others that have no theological insight to offer. I always have an open mind to the other side.

The reason I asked the question is that I am about half way through the book. There is nothing else to it. If you have seen me in a bad mood or post, it is because of one particular poster that fits the above description. I have no tolerance of such people.

'nuff said. Forgive me if it seemed like I was judging your motives. Because my theological distinctives are not popular with many on here, I am used to traps.

So, let me answer your question. Girolamo Zanchi wrote a wonderful work called, "The Doctrine of Absolute Predestination Stated and Asserted". I believe the book is out of print, although you may be able to find it online. Whereas Boettner writes from altitude, Zanchi writes in the weeds. I know you can get Covenant Theology: From Adam to Christ on Amazon. Covenant Theology is a central part of Reformed Theology, so the book is a must read for those who want to round out their knowledge on the matter.

I read Dr. Boettner's book at least 20 years ago. It had a significant influence on my thinking. If my memory serves, I found it on a book table at a yard sale. Still have it.

Another good book on the subject is By His Grace and For His Glory, written by Dr. Tom Nettles, professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
