IRS: Cheapest Obamacare Plan Will Be $20,000 Per Family

(CNSNews.com) – In a final regulation issued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year.

Under Obamacare, Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS.

My dear Lady Eagle, just think what the cost would have been without the generosity of Obamacare. I believe that he promised a saving of $2500 per family. That is more than 10%. You must start reading the same leftist trash that a few on this board read before you can appreciate the blessing of Obama.

Did you read the article? The IRS is using the $20,000 cost for calculating the penalty for NOT having insurance and makes some assumptions to arrive at the penalty amount.

The example of a Bronze Plan costing $20,000 a year per family assumes:

    1. A family of five.

    2. A household income of $120,000

    3. The year is 2016, or two years after implementation of ObamaCare. The year is important because the penalty amount escalates every year after 2014.

    4. No one in the family had any health care coverage in 2016.

The Congressional Budget Office assumes that for an average family to purchase a Bronze Plan in 2016 would be $15,200.

The CBO estimate is almost laughable.

The average cost of health insurance today is $15,750 for a family and they say it will be less in 4 years.

Factor in a historical accurate 4% increase per year and you come very close to the IRS figure.

They weren't just pulling a figure out of thin air.

Anyone stupid enough to believe the cost of coverage will go down with Obamacare is...well...indescribable.:BangHead:

Whoa there! Let's see if I got this right?! I'm in that range and have a family of four and currently pay 4,800 a year for very good health care (wouldn't be much more for 5 persons), this up from 3,700 just two years ago, (BTW, I've paid far more in than I've ever used as it is) ...now they're talking a "bronze" (sounds low quality?) plan FOR 20,000 in just 3 more years!!! What is that like 4-500% increase on what was already out of control?!? ...15-20k ?!?, ...about 1/6th of my income for healthcare?!? ...And this is reasonable and not a problem to you why???

It's not a problem for me because it's all fantasy numbers. As you've pointed out the estimated cost of the Bronze plan is wildly out of line with reality. Like you, my family's plan is better than the Bronze plan and much less expensive.

I'm not a supporter of ObamaCare but it's dishonest for detractors (like CNS News) to publish disinformation and for others to believe it as fact.

Agreed about these numbers and reality, but not in exclusion of the reality of Obamacare being a serious problem. I honestly expect health insurance premiums to double or worse in the next 4-5 years or within a decade from the time Obama took office and this is far from a $2,500 reduction being the truth as has been dishonestly expressed by Obamacare supporters.

I wish both sides would be more honest, but at a minimum I wish at least those I side with would be better known for toning down the hyperbole and rather than fighting distortions with distortions to be found portrayers of truth.

Are you covered by an employer's group health plan?

If you are , does you $4800 include the employers contribution?

Your cost of coverage may be much higher that you have said.

Plus the IRS projections are based on real averages, not pie in the sky. Parts of the country, other than where you live, may be much much higher.

It is an indisputable fact that the average cost for family coverage is $15,750. Consider yourself fortunate if you are in the lower percentile. With Obamacare , everyone will pay the same.

You are right to be looking for heavy premium increases.

I overlooked how high the employer's contributions might be. I've been self employed all my life and the wife' job benefits always covered insurance.

Although, interestingly I'm making a mid-life career switch and did a phone interview with an employer out of Texas yesterday about working for him for year. No wonder, re-thinking the conversation, when benefits came up he was so abruptly direct about me having to make him money and made a fretting "personal" (supposedly supposed to be ethically avoided in an interview) statement about Obamacare.

No doubt the increases that are sure to come will be spread around between employees and employers in an effort to survive the impact it will have the economy.

In my view the insurance companies will simply take advantage and get richer; the medical care system will be short changed in the process as quality for the people declines and yet they continue to pay more.

Add to that the rapidly increasing cases regarding treating obesity related morbidities such as diabetes (expected to double by 2020) and the cost to treat it (expected to triple by 2020) and we have unavoidable serious problems no matter what.

Someone like me who doesn't even use the benefits afforded to him will be paying through the nose for the irresponsible carefree lifestyles of others due to socialist ideologies of "fairness". My hard work and being responsible in taking care of my body will earn me nothing financially. If it did I should be required to pay much much less than say a person who is say 100lbs overweight if premiums were fair and an employer would be accused of discrimination if he were to choose employees based on the values of healthy lifestyles in a truly "fairly" based insurance system.

The incentive to work hard at something and do good for one's self (health) suffers as usual as it relates to the "do what you want (very little) entitlement and yet share in the wealth mentality" of the left and regarding healthcare the doors to reaching into others pockets have never been wider, that's just part of why leftist socialist agendas present a HUGE problem if it were expected that an economy is to grow!

The world is a mess and the values of U.S. capitalism that has made our country so prosperous and great are under attack even from within. Healthcare sharing the wealth is a socialist weapon unmatched and its no wonder to me why it has topped Obama's list regarding "change"! We're in big trouble no mattter what; hopefully we can find some solutions to level the playing field.

But I get off on a rant...that's why I don't post here too often. Focus turns to Super Bowl. :)

I spoke with someone today, whose employer contributions were listed on hubby's W2, family of 4, employer paid over $19,000 in health insurance premiums last year for their family.

The best scenario at this point is to figure out if you would be better off to make less money and qualify for obamacare and also get on the public dole for food, housing, etc. There is no point in trying to make ends meet anymore, let alone trying to get ahead.

Already, people are filling up emergency rooms (I have this from someone who is in the know at a large medical center here) for treatment. People are putting off going to the doctor or clinic for sickness, but are waiting until they are sick enough to go to the ER and be admitted. The cost of a doctor visit or clinic is too high for working stiffs who don't have health insurance and make too much for the state aid.

I still say, there will end up being a shortage of medicines, even maintenance meds for blood pressure, etc., when this all goes into effect, and maybe will impact non-prescription meds, like Tylenol, aspirin, etc., too. So stock up what you can. The times ahead are not good for any American, let alone sick ones.

Data mining has been going on for years and now, obamacare destroys the confidentiality in your medical records and the panel of 15 unelected, obama appointed bureaucrats will be making your life and death decisions about your health care. And with obamacare, you can bet that if you are overweight (according to them), or smoke, or drink, or have a cancer gene, have a disability of some sort, are over a certain age, or have multiple health issues, you WILL BE DENIED CARE. So, mark my words. Mark them down. I know I am right. Healthcare is my area of expertise, having worked in this field for over 40 years and seen the changes in the past and present. It is very easy to predict this future. Watch and see, we are living under a dictatorship. Freedom is gone. And your private medical records will be in the hands of the IRS.

My question would be this: The Constitution says tax legislation needs to start in the House....NOT in the Senate. They said it was not a Tax but as you know Mr Roberts said otherwise. Whats being done about his??

LE, I have no doubt that you are correct in your summary of what's going to happen. While I'm not in the medical field, I spent a good number of years of my employment involved with group insurance administration.

Additionally, being over 65 and having both a disabled better half and sibling in my household for over 30 years, I've kept a fairly close eye on "insurance" for a l-o-n-g time. There's nothing that I see as being positive about what's in store for myself and my family.

Further, we don't have many years left before our Saviour calls us home. By the time 2016 rolls around 1 or more of the 3 of us may have left this earthly existance.

That's not the case (for the most part) of the younger generations behind me. I don't even want to think about that if God doesn't bring all of this to an end, soon. Will they be drinking willow bark tea because they don't have the money to buy an aspirin?

Aspirin - 7 years of feast and 7 years of famine.
    You made a good point.
