2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

1 John 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

    1. Much of what this article says is true, but also quite obvious and not new.

    2. I have never heard any of the people he is arguing with who ascribe satan a rule over the earth that God cannot do anything about.

    3. The church doesn't make satan the god of this age. Scripture calls him this, and so scripture must be right. We CAN say "satan is the god of this age," and then go on to explain what that means, that he (1) has been granted a measure of freedom to wreak havoc on the earth for an age, and (2) people may make satan their god by thier choices.

the Satan of that day was the High Priest and those under him(adversaries

He was the god of that age just like the scripture says and he was the one who was crushed under the romans feet shortly--as Paul said he would be.
and also he was just the god of that AGE and not of this one--we are in a NEW AGE and the SATAN of the new testament has been done away with.

Do not be deceived. Satan is alive and well.
There are still individuals that are demon-possessed; even Christians that are demon-oppressed. He indeed is the god of this world.

Peter's warning rings just as true today as it did in the first century"
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

That is ridiculous. Were you wearing your clown suit when you typed that? The devil is using you to post this garbage, whether you realize it or not.

Read the following scriptures and see how idiotic your post really is:

    Matthew 4:1-11 (KJV)
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
    8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

I guess that was the high priest in the verses above. NOT

    Matthew 8:28-34 (KJV)
28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.

And I guess that was the high priests minions that possesed the manica, and then the swine. Are you for real? Get thee behind me, satan.

Your juvenile personal attacks aside, are you aware that these events occurred under the Law. That was a different age than we are in now. The age of the New Covenant did not begin until after Christ's ascension, when He presented Himself before God in the true holiest of holies.

You would do well to spend less time on personal attacks & more time studying God's Word. Your insults do not represent the conversation of a mature Christian. The powers that be will not long tolerate such behavior.

Do you have a particular outfit you like to wear when eating crow?:

I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me Jn 14:30

Who came? How was 'the prince of the world' manifested?:

Judas then, having received the band of soldiers, and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. Jn 18:3

'World' here in these passages is not 'age' in the Greek, it's kosmos, i.e. 'the arrangement':

Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing. Jn 18:20

whether its kosmos or aeon--does not change the fact that the High Priest was the god of the world at that time--its also very evident that they were trying to trick jesus and tempt him(who were doing these things? High Priest and those under him)--Satan(adversary) has always been men or a man or even a document in old testament and even Peter when he became an Adversary to God's will.Still there's no scriptural evidence of a fallen angel falling from heaven named Satan--its just not in the bible--sure you can speculate on a few scriptures--but thats all you are doing is speculating:)

On a side note(could start a new thread on this one)casting demons out was physical and mental sickness that was a part of the cursings that was listed for disobeying God's commandments--read all the cursings in Deut 28:)

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

The earth a place of awesome beauty and joy. A place for the morning stars, angels, and the shouted for joy over it. Job 38

Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness upon the face of the deep.

Darkness there is Satan, the devil and he and other demon angels had brought death and decay to the once beautiful earth. From Hebrews 2:14 him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; Sin brings forth death and Satan the devil is said to be him that has the power of death.

Satan was the god of this world when God the creator of this world returned in his presence to the earth as Light and renewed the face of the earth for the very purpose of destroying death and thus destroying Satan.

    Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

This was done by the very Son of God born through the woman taken from the man made in the image of the invisible God.

Death and Satan are still here, We still die, however here is what has transpired: 2 Tim. 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

That has been done in Christ however we are still subject to death until Christ comes in the throne of his glory, the kingdom of God, to sit on the throne of David. This is what the gospel of the kingdom of God is about. Mark 1:1 and Mark 1:14 = which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard [him]; God also bearing [them] witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will? Hebrews 2:3,4 called great salvation.

Hebrews 2:5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

The kingdom of God which will be a new age in this world (οἰκουμένην, the earth inhabited).

This world is subject not only to Satan the devil and his angels but also bear in mind the passage in Daniel when he had prayed yet it took some time before the angel could get there for he had to do battle with some renegade princes.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

Next the feast of trumpets. and then: And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, From Rev 20:2,3

I wonder if that might be a feast?????

Best I can do on short notice.

i also believe that the Serpent in the garden of eden was Adam and because of adam's transgression the Serpent(adam) would bruise the heel of Christ,BUT Christ would bruise the Serpent(adam)head.a crushing blow to the head would reverse the effects of adam's transgression upon mankind--the bruise on the heel was just for a time, but the bruise on the head of the serpent was for all time.

I do not think it is biblical to speak of adam or other people as satan.

Satan is Satan.....and as DHK points out he is still active.Satan and demonic forces are not to be taken lightly even if he has no place in the kingdom of light.

read the article carefully again. For example...it was not adam who came before God to speak and afflict JOB.

You are absolutely wrong here; ignorant if I may say so.
First it is a denial of Scripture. When Jesus said that he cast out demons, was he lying? That is what you are saying. You relegate it to a mental illness.
Second, it is evident that you have never seen a demon-possessed person, and therefore deny the reality of it. Talk to missionaries. Do some reading. Research the subject. Don't remain ignorant. Why does Paul warn us so much on this subject--the activity of Satan in this era, and to put on the whole armour of God that we may withstand the wiles of the devil?
It was after the Day of Pentecost, in the Book of Acts, that Paul cast out demons. I have encountered demon-possessed people, completely free of any mental disorder. Do not remain ignorant on this subject. We wage a daily battle against the god of this world--Satan.
The High Priest was never the devil, though he did Satan's work.

His witness is promoting dangerous false teaching that has no biblical support and is not believed by Baptists anywhere that I know of. False prophets and false teaching has been met with stern remarks, ridicule, etc. in the bible. I could take you to numerous places, so don't lecture me. If you are going to call me juvenile, then you will have to do the same to many great men in the bible. If the powers that be want to remove me, so be it, I stand by my remarks. The poster is a false teacher and I would not even let him post here if I had anything to do with it, but would confine him to the non-Baptist sections.

    1 Kings 18:21-40 (KJV)
21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.
29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.
31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

You've done left the beaten path and gotten lost in the wilderness....

The character Satan, the devil, that old serpent, is a very real seperate entity of his own throughout the scriptures.

this is a very long post please read it--very good info here :)
    SATANAS

•1. Slanderer, tempter, deceiver, adversary, destroyer, false accuser, opposer, one who is contrary or against all, to stand against.

•2. Name given to the prince of the devils. Another name is diábolos, devil. In his name as Satan, he is the opposer, the adversary of both believers and unbelievers.

Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament

The above definitions are for the Greek term "satanas," which is the term commonly translated as "Satan" in the scriptures. Number one is the actual definition of the term, and reflects the understanding of the first century people addressed by the various apostolic writings. Definition number two reflects the evolution of the term and the manner in which it has come to be understood. An example of "word evolution" is seen in our term "gay." Prior to the 1960's, "gay" simply expressed joy, happiness, or a carefree disposition. Since then, it has come to have a secondary meaning, which is in regard to a homosexual lifestyle. No doubt, at some point in the not too distant future, those who become exposed to old stories, poems, or songs, such as the "Three Gay Cabelleros," will view such works as addressing those of an "alternate" lifestyle. This is the same crisis of understanding that we face in regard to "satanas." As the apostolic writings are not addressed to modern man, but to those of the first century, we must limit our understanding to definition number one.

The term "Satan" is actually a "loanword," twice removed. A "loanword" is essentially a "transliteration," rather than a translation. A "transliteration" is to change a natural word to achieve a spelling and pronunciation that is compatible with another language. This was done with the Greek term "baptizo," which, if translated, would be "to immerse, to plunge, or to dip." However, the directives of King James necessitated that the translators of the King James Version protect the existing baptismal practice of the Church of England; therefore, they "transliterated" the Greek word "baptizo" by dropping the "o" and adding the letter "e," which gave it an English appearance and pronunciation. This made the term generic and applicable to any mode or practice that one may wish to employ. To arrive at the term "Satan," a double "transliteration" was necessary. The Hebrew term was "ha-Saa-Taan;" and its meaning is in accord with definition #1. Between the 3rd and 1st centuries BC, the Hebrew writings were translated, by stages, into the Greek language. This translation is known as the Septuagint. During this process it was found that there was no Greek equivalent for the Hebrew term "ha-Saa-Taan;" hence, they transliterated the Hebrew term into the Greek word "satanas." "Satanas" was later transliterated into the English word "Satan." Hence, the term "Satan" is not a translation at all, but one that was created to perpetuate an existing bias. Therefore, if one wishes to view a given text as it was actually written, the term "Satan" must be replaced by one of the terms listed in definition number one.

Our study will show that the apostolic writings do not use the term "satanas" of any single entity, but of several things that are in opposition to the purpose of God.

    Satanas

    1. The "adversary" of Judaism is often represented by the chief priest or the corrupt religious leaders. These people were governed by their carnal nature, and acted out of greed and the desire for power. Those such as Saul of Tarsus, who persecuted the saints unto death, and the Judaizing teachers, who were subverting the purity of the gospel by attempting to bind circumcision and the Law upon the gentiles of faith, acted out of a misguided sense of Godly service. Regardless of motive, these people were "adversaries" of the purpose of God in Jesus. These men, standing in opposition to the Way of Jesus, were "satanas." Jesus accused them of being the children of their fathers, who were liars and false accusers, as evidenced by their having persecuted and killed the prophets. They proved Jesus to be correct, as they falsely accused Jesus to the death, and slandered, persecuted and killed those who accepted Him as the Anointed of God. Hence, these slanderous men were also "diabolos" (devil). It is to be noted that the scriptures never record any persecution of the saints, lest it was carried out or instituted by the children of Israel, who refused to accept Jesus.

    Luke 13:17

17 And as He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire multitude was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him.

    Luke 21:15

15 for I will give you utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute.

    1 Corinthians 16:9

9 for a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.

    Philippians 1:28

28 in no way alarmed by your opponents - which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.

    2. Paul, using himself asan example, describes man as having two natures- one that desires to serve God and the other disposed toward self-gratification (Rom. 7). This second nature is "satanas" as it is in opposition to the will of God.

    Galatians 5:17

17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

    Satanas

    Romans 7:17

17 So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which indwells me.

    Romans 8:7

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. NKJV

    3. The pagan gods and/or their systems of worship are also "satanas," as they stand in opposition to God and the way of righteousness.

    4. The least recognized as "satanas" and the most prominent is the covenant of Law, which is said to be against the people of the circumcision and the power of sin.

    Colossians 2:14

14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

    1 Corinthians 15:56

    56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;

Our first consideration will be the term "satanas" in the "old testament" writings, where the term is often rendered in an appropriate manner.

    Numbers 22:22, 32
22 But God was angry because he was going, and the angel of the Lord took his stand in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him.

32 And the angel of the Lord said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way was contrary to me.

In the above verses, we find the term correctly translated as "adversary." Even more remarkable, these verses are the first time that the scriptures apply the term to any spiritual being, which in this case is an angel of the Lord. Quite a contrast to our modern day application of a fallen angel devoted to evil and rebellion. The above verses represent the words of God to Balaam. God was an "adversary" to Balaam, as he was not acting in accord with His purpose.

The above verses demonstrate the importance of recognizing the term "adversary" as a two-edged sword that is dependent on the disposition of the individual. Those who were disposed to rebellion considered the God of Israel to be an "adversary," while, from God's perspective, they were the "adversary."

    Satanas

    1 Samuel 29:3, 4
3 Then the commanders of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines, "Is this not David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him from the day he deserted to me to this day?"
4 But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him, and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, "Make the man go back, that he may return to his place where you have assigned him, and do not let him go down to battle with us, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what could this man make himself acceptable to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of these men?

Verse 4 is the first time the term "satanas" is used of a human being, which clearly defines its meaning. The commanders of the Philistines were distrustful of David, as they feared that he might rise up against them and become their "adversary" in battle.

    2 Samuel 19:22
22 David then said, "What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be an adversary to me? Should any man be put to death in Israel today? For do I not know that I am king over Israel today?"

In the above verse, David questions the "adversarial" disposition of sons of Zeruiah, toward his decision to show mercy to Shimei. It is to be noted that this verse has the term in the plural, which denotes the existence of more than one "Satan."

    1 Kings 5:4
4 But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor misfortune.

Clearly, the above verse records David as experiencing a period of peace, as no "opposition" (enemy) was besetting him.

    His Witness,

Thank you for the good link and information. The word does refer to an adversary.
Most of us believe as the church has always believed that while there are many adversaries there is only One who is Satan. Satan is singled out from all the other fallen angels.

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
