For the third time in the last eight months, the California refineries are claiming that the steep rise in gas pump increases is due to the closure of refineries in order to make repairs and get ready to do their seasonal mix.

This excuse used to be used twice a year, and it made sense, as the refineries did need to mix blends for summer and winter months. However, now they have gone to the well one too many times, and Californians are starting to think [including me] that these are mere excuses to lower the amount of fuel available to pump in order to increase the prices [supply and demand rule].

Each hefty raise in pump prices means more taxes for the state at the pump, and it seems that the state and the oil producers are inclusions with each other in an effort to pump up the state tax coffers to help fund the large amounts of salaries going to overpaid politicians and appointed leaders of departments in state government.

I suspect that Senators Boxer of Feinsteind will launch, yet another, investigation into the inflated prices [a ploy to make the loyalist to the Obama groupies] to give the look that they care. In the past, I have yet to hear the results of these many investigations, and never once have their faux inquiries led to any relief at the pump.

This has to stop. If it doesn't the state and feds will have to find another way to fund Obamacare, because those who may a policy will have to forgo the policy to keep gas in their cars to get to the minimum-wage job. After all, $9.00 an hour can only be stretched so far!

Enough is enough is enough! :tear:

So what are you paying now, versus a month ago? And is the increase in the pump taking away from things that you could and should be doing with your hard-earned money? In other words, what are you doing to make ends meet? Are you giving less to church? Buying less food? Eating out less? letting car maintenance go undone? Wearing clothes that would make you worse dressed than those on skid row?

Undoubtedly the oil companies create "shortages" by fiddling with refineries maintenance.

I don't see how rising pump prices leads to an increase in gas tax revenue since the tax is a per gallon tax and people typically buy less gas when the price goes up. Can you explain?

    I'm paying $3.79 now vs.$2.91 a month ago.

I noticed when gas went below $3.00 there were no news stories, no posts on BB... only when prices go up.

    Agreed....

....there is no need to write about gas prices when they are within our ability to meet.

The above article explains how higher pump prices help the state treasuries. and you must remember, we are now paying eight-cents per dollar in tax. This was voted on in Noevember 2012, and went into law on 12/1/21.

I've tried several things, but, it seems presoaking the beans for several hours and then draining before going into the crock pot helps as much as anything.

Now you know the "Rest of the story!"

This is why California leads the nation in pump prices. It's hard not to think that when the state budget is in the red, that the oil companies just start a small crawl upwards to cover the deficit.

A serious gas problem is a great way to get to a clothing rack on sale that is being mobbed. Just walk up into the crowd, drop a bomb, and watch the crowd back off. Pick your chosen clothing and be on your way. That is a true story.

    Rats.....!

RD...upon reading the title of your thread(with that coy little smiley attached) and then going on to read the OP I just gotta say that I was actually disappointed that your thread WASN'T an attempt at some crude short of rude humor. If you actually HAD been talking about the "other" kind of gas:smilewinkgrin: then maybe we might have actually been discussing something we might actually have a chance of DOING SOMETHING ABOUT. Sad to say....! The only cheap gas we are probably ever gonna get out of Washington OR the Oil Companies will be that hot air that comes out of their mouths when they are TALKING about it. Sighhh. Thus is reality. That said, we ARE called to give thanks in and for everything....now THERE is a challenge for us. At least we have a God to whom we can have real hope in and come before with our NEEDS...if not our WANTS.

By the way...I know you asked some serious questions there at the bottom of the OP so here it is...as opposed to a month ago we are paying about .55 cents a gallon more as of today than we were a month ago for regular. It was $3.50 a gallon as of yesterday here in upstate S.C. It hasn't affected us too badly yet but if it gets to the $6 or $8 a gallon prices I have heard some doomsayers talking about then that will be another story altogether. We are having to watch how we spend and yes..unfortunately we have had to trim some of our extra giving and I seriously HATE that. The biggest problem we have in respect to our overall picture though is that I have been unemployed since mid-June of 2012 and my wife is retired so our income is definitely completely fixed until I can get back to work. She is 62 and I am 58 so jobs are getting harder to find with so many younger people in the job pool. I am not complaining...just saying. Actually, under the current circumstances I can definitely say that God has taken good care of us and we are VERY blessed. I will say though that I would appreciate anybody who would remember us in prayer about my job search. God Bless ya'll. Let the gas continue!

    USA Gasoline Tax Map
    http://www.northcarolinagasprices.com/USA_Tax_Map.aspx

    USA Tax Rates by state
    http://www.northcarolinagasprices.com/Tax_Info.aspx

North Carolina re-calculates the gas tax twice a year. Based in part on the price of gasoline. Here's a quote from 2011.
The higher the prices of gasoline are on those dates the more the state benefits. Taking more out of the pockets of those who can least afford to pay and keep food on the table. "Bridges and roads", as usual, the excuse. The people of this state (and this nation) do have some considerations other than bridges to no where. (There are equivalent examples here in NC.)
