Rather ironic words given that it is the Republicans who refuse to make any move towards a balanced approach.

The Republicans did move on Dec 31, approving tax hikes on those that make more than $400,000.

Capital gains rate went up from 15% to 20% for these same people.

The FICA portion of employee contribution was raised 2%.

Certain tax deductions and allowances will be phased out for high income earners.

Just these changes alone in the tax code will raise about $60 Billion per year.

Oh yeah, unemployment benefits were increased for another year with no corresponding spending cuts ($30 billion)

So the Republicans have already given Obama his fresh tax revenues and additional spending on unemployment benefits. Where are Obama's cuts?

Obama's "balanced approach" would be to slap an additional millionaire's tax of 30% on those people with incomes above $1 Million.

Boehner is simply trying to deflect attention away from the inept GOP house members.

I can't believe I'm defending Boehner, I'm not a fan of his, but the House, under his leadership has at least passed legislation with specific cuts which would avoid the automatic cuts. So how is the GOP being inept here?

Because he is afraid to really face the issue. Only so much can be cut. Revenues have to be increased. The Bush tax cuts increased the speed at which we reached this disastrous point. Remember we were running a budget surplus before the tax cuts went into effect.

The GOP refuses to face down the Tea Party extremists and ultraconservatives and this, in the long run, both a disaster for the country and the GOP. It only contributes to the perception that the GOP is out of touch with the country and with common sense.

Yes, we were running a surplus when Bush took office. There were surpluses forecast for the next 4 to 6 years. That's when Bush decided it was OK to increase spending via the Medicare drug benefit program, the No Child Left Behind program, the farm subsidies program, etc. Throw in the creation of another government department in the department of Homeland Security, fighting wars in two countries and you've got some real spending increases soaking up the surplus. And yes, the tax cuts. But it was NOT the tax cuts alone that got us into this mess.

They rebuked what, three Tea Party candidates in the 2012 elections? Basically disowned them and they didn't get elected.

And just what is a balanced approach: The Republicans bowing to the demands of King Obama?

Obama is the worst demagogue to ever inhabit the White House. He makes Clinton look like a novice when it comes to lying. But he is a Marxist and he is simply following the Marxist methodology.

There are no more taxes to be collected. America is broke. All of our troops need to come home. We need to stop supporting non citizens. We need to make cuts to as many programs as we can until we get our fiscal house in order.

It is the Obama serfs in the Senate, led by Harry Reid, who are totally inept but since they are Obama's serfs that is to be expected.

The US should give a choice to any illegal in a jail or prison- We will release you at the border (or a plane ticket if you are outside CONUS)

That should save quite a bit of money

Now, what would phase II be?

That is totally false and the typical leftist line. The Bush tax cuts were needed to get us out of the "dot com." bubble burst and the terrorist attack of 9/11 [Which was likely the result of Clinton's refusal to take custody of bin Laden.]. If you are really interested in the truth about the Clinton and Bush economies you can find out at the following:

It is the radical Marxists who have taken over the democrat party who are the real danger to the Republic. These traitors are determined to do what the Soviet Union and their cohorts in the United States could not do because of Ronald Reagan who defeated the Soviet Union, the evil empire, without firing a shot!

Sequestration Not Living Up to Past 'Crises'

"....many Americans actually broadly agree with any plan that requires the U.S. government to scale back on spending, especially a plan that doesn’t discriminate among programs.

Sequestration, for better or worse, requires across-the-board spending cuts totaling between $44 billion and $85 billion in 2013 (depending on whose numbers you believe). So, no one’s pet causes are spared: military projects favored by Republicans are facing the same percentage of cuts as social programs treasured by Democrats.

In other words, the cuts, whether you approve of them or not, are widely viewed as being doled out fairly."

But on the other hand do we have some fear mongering going on here?:

"Sarah Palin says America will eventually default on its debt and claims that the federal government is “stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest” to prepare.

If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits, then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest,” Palin wrote in a Facebook message Tuesday....."

I was shocked, shocked to learn from Congresswoman Maxine Waters that sequestration was going to cost the USA 170,000,000 jobs.
