At first glance, what also seems offensive? "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)

Good post. I would have to say that put like that it may not quiet be the most "offensive" verse but it would certainly make good TV to see Piers Morgan slack-jawed from that LOL

Think some here see this as being even more offensive!

18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Those who have not believed in jesus are already eternally condemned by God, so ALL of us were facing that same condemnation unrtil saved by God!

many would say God is love, so why would Jesus bring disorder and "hatred" among the family? Why would he ask us to love Him, and "hate " our won parents/siblings?

Oh baloney, this is such a subjective question. What do you dispies think of the political correctness of Paul here?:

2 Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the concision:
3 for we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God, and glory in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh: Phil 3

Good point, as many, even some in Church, want to use the word "a" instead of "the!"

The Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, Katherine Jefforts-Schori, was asked if Jesus was the only way of salvation. Her answer: 'I could never keep God in that small of a box'.

Look at the answer that James Dobson (Focus on the Family) gave on Larry King show:

CALLER: Hi, my question, Dr. Dobson, you mentioned early in the show that the people on September the 11th who died, who didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you know, basically didn't go to heaven. Do you honestly believe that people of different faiths other than Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish faiths, are those people when they die all going to hell?

DOBSON: I don't think you heard the second half of my answer, because I was attempting to explain that that would require me to put myself in judgment of everybody around the world. And if you did not conform to my notions, then you're damned. I don't know. So I'm thankful that I don't have to decide that. You know the...

This was a gutless disgusting answer. All christians know what Larry King is asking, and Dobson , or Osteen have both failed as professed Chrisitans in not telling the truth under the bogus I do not judge copout. Disgusting.

So, are all of you saying that you know who will be saved and who won't?

The verses I find most offensive are the OT passages where God (apparently) commands the Israelites to commit genocide. I'm still trying to figure that one out...

Wow. Hadn't heard that before. Guess I'll be avoiding Dobson like the plague then. Not that I was really a fan anyway. So sad that these professed believers care more about making people like them and be comfortable than give them the truth...

To be fair I don't think anyone has said that. We all affirm only believers are saved, and its not judging a person's salvation by saying those who don't adhere to salvation by grace alone through Christ alone are not saved.

Those nations had the opportunity to turn from their false gods and didn't. While on the surface it looks extremely unloving, those who were of age deserved it, and those who were not were spared eternally not physically.

I still struggle with the picture of God Who commands the slaughter of babies and infants; how can we condemn the abortionist when we - seemingly on these verses - worship a God Who orders the same????

From our vantage it might appear that way. From an eternal perspective its merciful.

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
