    Friends,

If you’ve been listening to the politicians and the national media for the past several weeks, you know that the budget sequester spending “cuts” President Obama and Congress came up with -- as opposed to actually coming up with a budget -- are taking effect today and may end life as we know it.

Planes will fall from the sky, our military will be dismantled, children will go hungry, and prisons will be emptied.

What a bunch of nonsense! Even with these massive “cuts”, the federal government will spend more money in 2013 than it did in 2012. ONLY in Washington does that constitute a cut.

Everything you need to know about the lies the White House, the media and, yes, many Republicans have been spreading about the sequester is summed up in this Reuters headline this morning: “U.S. stares down start of steep automatic budget cuts”.

Let’s be clear. There are NO cuts. There are only tiny reductions in the amount by which federal spending would otherwise grow this year. And those reductions only apply to the roughly one-third of government spending that is “discretionary”. It doesn’t include the other two-thirds made up of entitlements and interest on $16 trillion of debt.

As I point out in this op-ed in today’s Washington Times, if we eliminated ALL so called “discretionary” spending, the federal budget might almost be balanced.

Does that brutal truth mean the budget can’t be balanced? Of course not. But what it DOES mean is that the politicians are lying when they talk about reducing spending without dealing with entitlements like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. It can’t be done, and the hysteria over the sequester proves it. THAT is the moral of this story.

The Our America Initiative exists to tell these truths, and to mobilize Americans who see these absurd political games for what they are. If you agree with me that it’s time for a healthy dose of not just truth, but action, I hope you will join us. Your contribution at will allow us to take the message of REAL spending reduction, economic freedom and liberty to the airwaves, to the Internet, and to events across the country.

Being ever the optimist, I actually believe the sun WILL rise tomorrow -- despite the sequester. In fact, if the government is even a tiny bit smaller than it would be otherwise, maybe the sun will be a little brighter, and maybe we will be a little bit more free.

Thanks, as always, for your friendship and support for liberty!

Nobody likes cuts, but folks we are out of money. Time to do what simple economics teaches, when out of money, stop spending.
