Is it possible that Obama, already highly popular among the groups of voters who put him in office in 2012, would try to bring the 22nd amendment up before the people for a vote?

Just asking, and was wondering [out loud] how he would go about making an "end-run" around the laws in place that are there to make changing an amendment nearly impossible?

Of course, if he needed three-quarters of both the House and Senate, and he can somehow "blow up" the GOP over the battle over the budget; and in turn oust the majority of the GOPS, up for election in 2014, could it be done? :tonofbricks:

Do any of you see it as a remote possibility?

    Why? You ask why?

Such an idea would start such a firestorm that it would receive no backing in either party.

No sane party would propose such an outlandish idea.

Sane parties try to appeal to the voters, not drive them away.

Such an idea appeals only to conspiracy right-wing nut cases as it gives them something to scream about ... but no substance to the idea at all.

You remember these folk have been wrong in every idea they have pushed. So they come up with more hair-brained ideas that appeal to no one except themselves.

They are as out of touch with reality as were the left-wing nut-cases who pushed the idea that Bush would declare a national emergency to stay in power. It had become pretty obvious that the happiest day of Bush's life was going to be, and was the day he walked out of the White House for the last time.

I am sure you can think of other reasons.

Read my fingers: There is NO POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING!

The law would not apply to the current officeholder (ie President Obama) were anything like it to be passed. Also I hope everyone remembers which party controls the majority of the State legislatures in this country.

With God all things are possible!

I'm sure that the Hebrews thought many things were impossible, too.

We don't know God's plans for this sin-filled nation.

It's fine to say it isn't likely that Obama will get a 3rd term and the reason why you hold that viewpoint. Just as it is for others to take the opposite view.

To say that it's IMPOSSIBLE, with great emphasis, is to leave God out of the picture.

    again - why not?

Even when the 25th was passed - the incumbent was grandfathered -

Such an amendment can be written as pleased.

Why would Obama get a third term
Who is a potential 2016 candidate?
Hillary may be considered too old
    Joe? well no explanation necessary

Actually, Crabby, I disagree with all of your reasons.

Who is a rising star in the Democratic party

I believe there is potentially sufficient support to change the constitution.

    Main reason it wont happen:

in 2014 the dems would have to have a net increase of 23 seats in the Senate and 89 in the House.

But there is one way - use the George Wallace loophole

    Michelle Obama in 2016!
and then B O would be on the US payroll for $1 a year

It would still have to be ratified by 2/3 of the state legislatures.

There won't be an amendment. It will be a usurpation as was his candidacy. Some crisis that he will have to "lead" us through.

Just wondering when the soldiers of this nation will remember their oath.

Although rare, I agree with CTB on this one. Although technically possible, it is practically impossible. Yes, everything with God is possible, but the last time I checked, Obama is not God.

Agree. That political/legal hill is too steep to climb.

In essence I agree with Crabby - but for different reasons. ( as stated in my previous post)

The biggest obstacle would be ratification by 3/4 of state legislatures. My state would not waste the money for the paper to have it printed up.

The talking heads on tv seem to agree that Obama has only about a year and a half to do any more damage and then he will be a lame duck. Praise God!

Hopefully the public now sees what a liar he is after this last round of con-pain-ing telling everyone the world was coming to an end.
