I have heard some discussion this past week about the TV Presentation of a 5 part series on the Bible. I did not see it but plan to watch part 2 Tonight on the History Channel. From what I have gotten is that it is presented more as a History then Theology with poetic privileges and enhancements added. Did any of you bros. or sisters see it if so what did you think?

    Interesting...But NOT Accurate

My wife and I have watched both of the first two installments and we will watch them all. The events that are depicted do manage to give a recognizable dramatization of the events they portray but they are not accurate with reference to the exact details of the Scriptural narrative. There are many examples of "artistic license" being applied by the producers of the series. I have been trying to follow along with the depicted events with my Bible open and available. The portions of the text they have chosen to handle are recognizable but it would not be wise for the unsaved or people who are not "biblically literate" to depend on it for the real truth of the Bible. That is our opinion. It kinda makes me think that it could be a TV version of the "Reader's Digest Condensed Bible". TV, Movies, film-makers in general....they just never can get the Bible RIGHT. They just can't seem to avoid or resist the temptation to take "liberties" with the text.:tear:

I think in this day and age it is a good thing that anyone is trying to produce a program based on the Bible, even if they do take some "artistic license".

    Yes, But....

Thomas, I don't disagree with you in principle since there is a move afoot these days to altogether remove God and His Word from the public arena and public discourse. But we must consider that we have more "Christian" resources available today through churches, bookstores, Internet, print, radio, TV and other means than at any other time in recorded history. And yet...there is a "dearth" in the land of sound teaching about the TRUTH...in fact MUCH false teaching. Thus we have the "History Channel" bringing us another extremely flawed example of Bible "history" that is not accurate at all. The multitudes of non-Biblically literate people (saved or lost included) will probably "lap it up" without even once considering the flaws in the presentation. Very sad. I'll sum it up by saying this.... "a half-truth is still a whole lie." And since the subject matter is the Bible...the home of God's "absolute truth" as He wanted US to have it...I think that makes things even more troublesome.:tear:

Well, since we're talking about television, and the only alternative is basically TBN, I might have to disagree with you somewhat.

    Well...about TV...

I will acknowledge that there is "value" in TV...it is just a tool and not evil in and of itself...same as radio and the internet. I'm not going to say that TBN is ALL bad because I have heard clear presentations of the Gospel go out from their programming...but...there is much "wood, hay and stubble" present there as well and many Word of Faith, Prosperity and Charismatic preacher/teachers advancing their doctrine as well. As a general rule I don't personally spend much time watching TBN. Just can't take much of it. Almost all the music presented is of the CCM type and there is a general disregard and disdain for any real biblical principals of separation and conduct. Pretty much anythings goes as long as "we all love Jesus". All told.... the majority of the programming on ANY TV channel today has been "leavened" by false doctrine. There are stand-alone exceptions...but they are rare...and getting rarer. We must pray for and exercise great discernment.
