Just a thought. Maybe you have one too.

The average college student is living his life. Typical young person that is not particularly interested in God or religion at this time. He is walking along one day and out of the blue a monstrous man kills him, dismembers him, and eats him.
My question is this.....since the nice college young man was sent to eternity in an instant. He is now in hell having never given his life to Christ. The monstrous man is sent to prison where a chaplain leads him to the Lord and he is saved. How in the world are we going to share heaven with such a man? (sarcasm implied) When we as humans on earth are soooo judgemental about every sin under the sun but our own. I sure am glad we will be made like Christ in our new bodies.

    Beautiful!!! :applause:

We should not consider ourselves so removed from being lost and on the way to an eternal lake of fire that we forget that somebody loved us enough to share God's truth in HIS LOVE with us. Letting us know that we are indeed wretched and vile, but no more so than EVERY sinner in need of The Savior's redeeming blood.

A very sad story, and hope it never really happens, but several points can be made. One is, what seems fair to us as flawed humans is not what is Holy, pure and right with God.

I think we all to a degree, as Christians, condemn sins that we do not engage in (or believe we do not engage in, more on that later) However, the focus of the problem within the NT Christian local church community is the church gossip. It is partially all of our faults in the fact that most local churches do not deal the the situation. Gossips regularly flap their jaws about actions they consider sins worse than gossip, when if fact, well over half of them cannot be classified as sins.

It seems it is worse in churches with either a clique or power centers with small groups of people, such as a board of deacons or elders (in a small number of cases) that think they run the church and rule the pastor. It seems to be worse in the generation above me (WW2), than mine (BB). Once I had a deacon from another church come up to me out of the blue and say "I have been married 50 years and have never had a cross word with my wife." I wanted to call him a liar to his face, but did not. Another pattern I have noticed, and this focuses on the two sins David committed, adultrey and murder. Some wear the fact they have never cheated on their spouse or murdered anyone like a badge of honor. However, their badge is as filthy rags. Matthew 5 makes it quite clear that all of these clowns have committed both. Every man has lusted at one time or another. The quiet ones are the most guilty. With the contempt for people you can see bleeding through their speech, you know the same thing goes for a seething hate in their hearts. So, in fact, they are guilty of the exact sins they claim to be so honorable about. Also, that is assuming they they are not lying about physically cheating on their spouse. Their arrogance is a sin in itself. The power they sling around like a toy within a local church, Jesus Christ's church, is IMO, a very serious sin, if one wants to rank sins.

Another hotbed of gossip is in the remote corners of the church, usually wives of the men mentioned above. When they see someone coming with a new story, they drule awaiting the news. "Did you hear that James saw Brother Boogy Woogy walk out of a liquor store." "I have no doubt he also had lottery tickets in his hand." "Bet he dances, watches TV and goes to movies." The gossip, a very destructive sin to the unity of a church, and the cause of Christ, is ignored.

When I am approached with such a story, I figure it is for two reasons, to inform me so I can pray for the person and help restore him to fellowship, or, is it an opening to spread gossip and experience the joy of someone else's misery. If it is number two, which it usually is, I tell them to tell their tales to someone else, I do not want to hear them.

This is not localized. I have talked to pastor after pastor after pastor who admits it is almost an uncontrollable problem. Then again, how many times do you hear a sermon on gossip.

We need to stop the stigma of actions that are not sins, and attack the actions that are sins. If we worried as much about telling others about the Good News as we do about dancing, gambling (lottery tickets), eating out on Sunday, TV, movies, smoking and tatoos, then our pews would be a lot fuller. I will let the issue of drinking out of the thread, as excessive drinking is a sin, and deserves a full thread, as there have been many.

Now, I do not dance. Why? Because I look like a klutz. I do not smoke. Why? Bypass surgery I do not buy lottery tickets. Why? Have better things to do with my money. I have no tatoos, which is a miracle in itself considering all the parlors I passed in the Navy in an altered state.

A long way to solving the problem posed by your thread would be to practice the book of James. Good works do not come before salvation. They are meaningless. Salvation comes first, then the Holy Spirit is our Guide. The life we live and the good works we do are a result of our faith in Jesus Christ. Memorizing rules and obeying them on your own power is a sure ticket to the Lake of Fire. The order of events in this case is everything.

Also, I think to a degree you can see the problem here on BB. If you have kept up the the Calvin-free will threads, you will see the usual pattern is to get angier and angier until names like heretic, false teacher, believer in works added to salvation, and the such are thrown about like candy at a parade. The only thing that prevents them from being worse is BB rules and being banned.

I want to thank you for starting the thread.

In this scenerio....both are lost sinners living under the wrath of God,apart from Christ.

If you want to look at this from a human ,emotional viewpoint...you say this young sinner was.....nice.....

From a biblical standpoint....nice sinners go to hell just as guilty as the not so ...nice sinners.
I know this terminology is used today...but it is unbiblical terminolgy...

sinners do not give their sinful life to Christ....what would he want with it?

Jesus gives a new heart and new life to sinners.

this other sinner who is not as nice a sinner commits physical murder.God uses the word preached by the chaplin to save this guilty sinner.

The murdered college student had an appointed time of death. This other sinner has become the object of God's mercy.

We are as vile as this murderer apart from God's grace...we would all worship together as the assembled church on the last day.

Actually, many believe this scenario has actually happened in recent history. Many remember mass-murderer Jeffrey Dahmer, who was reportedly saved and baptized in prison, then murdered by a fellow inmate shortly after.
