Here is a man that has interacted with the common man. I wonder how long it has been since another cardinal regularly rode on city buses to go to work or to go home. And, how many refuse to live in splendor selecting a more humble abode?

Sure looks like the last guy's golden parachute turned out ok. And this is just his "temporary" abode until they get his permanent residence renovated. Looks like something off "MTV Cribs".

James 1:9-11, 27 9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

I imagine that "Castle Gandolfo" could put a roof over the head of many a fatherless and widow, oh well.

I expect he will live in the Vatican. There are lots of people around the world who would try to assassinate him if he rode public transportation. It will be interesting to see if he emphases helping the poor and those in need. It will also be interesting to see if he tries to clean up the corruption inside the Vatican. That will be a very hard job. It is extremely difficult to change a bureaucracy like that in the Vatican.

Why do you think he selected the name Francis? Read up on the life of St. Francis to gain a clue.

The Catholic Church is the largest christian charitable organization in the world. When Baptists can say that about themseleves, you might have a point. Until then, however, it's just more anti-Catholic garbage.

In honor of Pope John Paul, I think he should have changed his name to Pope George Ringo!!

Really though, he's the head of the most corrupt religious organization on earth. Who cares? Especially a Christian and a Baptist?

What I care about are all the people the RCC is sending to Hell with their false religion.

There is good money to be made in "charitable organizations" specially if your at the top of the pyramid. Goverment fat cats, and United Way CEO's live pretty good too, but they are still crying we need to raise taxes, or we need to meet our goal.

By the way, the SBC reports: Through the International Mission Board, Southern Baptists support 5,444 missionaries in different countries. Your gifts and prayers resulted in 565,967 (2008 Annual Statistical Report) new believers baptized in 2008 outside of North America.

Southern Baptist's support of CP Missions allowed the North American Mission Board to send out 5,081 missionaries last year and help start over 1,700 new churches. Approximately 415,000 people were baptized last year as a result of individual Southern Baptists becoming Partners in the Harvest.

While the SBC does have its share of problems, I can sleep at night knowing my giving plays a small part in helping missionaries who are sharing about "the bread of life" and the one who gives water that will make one "never thirst". We should meet peoples' physical needs, but its more important to meet their spiritual needs. The RCC does not do that.

He was talking about "Christian" organizations. United Way is number 1, but the Salvation Army is the first CHRISTIAN charity listed.

Catholics are Christian. And United Way is just a sampling of Giving. It doesn't consider all giving just all giving within its perview because they are the flow through organization which employment giving is collect and distributed among the differing agencies.

I beg to differ. If a catholic is fully following the RCC then, I'd say, NO, that catholic is not a Christian. Listen, I come from a family full of RC in-laws. My wife has a priest for an uncle, and a nun for an aunt. Dozens of family members who are DEVOUT RC's. NONE of them that I've talked to (and in 31 years of marriage, that's a LOT of them) are saved, or have any idea what that even means. PLEASE, don't try to tell me Catholics are Christians.

You list yourself as a Baptist..if that's true, then you should know better.

I when I started posting on this site I was a baptist and then later converted and couldn't update my status but could my church so I did. My qustion to you is how do you know they are not "saved"? I'm not saying you aren't correct but to be correct it has to be more than they disagree with your personal beliefs. I mean you may disagree with Church of Christ or Pentecostals about certain beliefs but I don't think you claim they aren't "saved". So what makes you think your relatives aren't saved?

When I asked my wife's aunt, who is the nun, if she was saved, she laughed and said "saved from what?" NONE of my wife's relatives can tell me that they KNOW they are going to Heaven. They all just "hope" they die in a state of grace, or that they're wearing a magic scapular, or have said enough "hail Mary's", or being baptized when they were a baby, or whatever! None of them ever mentions a personal relationship with Jesus Christ! They definitely believe in the "I hope my good outweighs my bad" form of salvation. They ALL think MORE of Mary than they do Christ! "Mary this, Mary that" is all you hear from them. Jesus Christ is just someone Mary lets tag along with her.
Those people are my family! I LOVE them! It hurts me so much to see how blind they are! I HATE the RCC because of that. Not the people in it, but the false gospel that's leading millions of Mary worshiping people straight to Hell, the RCC itself. It angers me immensely when I see people trying to defend it as Christian.

Whew! I'd better stop right there.

Again, PLEASE, don't tell me the RCC is a Christian church. I, and you, if you're honest with yourself, know better.

The admiration of the pope is disturbing. But the author of the O/P has stated in the past that he doesn't believe in eternal torment for the damned, so anything goes, purdy much.

But they (Mormons & JW) say they are Christian

What part of the Nicean Creed would they disagree with?

The Nicene Creed does not make any mention of asking forgiveness of sins

    Bottom line:

I will ask someone two questions:
    1) Do you believe you are going to Heaven
    (if yes, q #2)
    2) On what do you base the fact you are going to Heaven?

Unless they can confidently say they accepted Christ as their Saviour for forgiveness of sins by Grace thur Faith thru the Blood of Jesus Christ; + nothing -nothing; they are not a Christian.
