On the surface it appears that BJU lacks grace- or there might be more to the story. Perhaps they have reason to believe that he might have committed immoral acts recently and that gave them cause to investigate?

I don't understand how that didn't come up on his background check.

From what I understand they did not do a background check .
    They do now!

Here is the ironical part - had he been an alcoholic, been saved and overcome booze- he probably would have mentioned that. Seems overcoming the bottle is the best testimony there is! All other sins - need not to apply

Here is the critical issue, which we don't know about: Did BJU ask him about his criminal record when he applied? If they did and he lied about it, he should have been fired. If they did not, he has no affirmative duty to disclose this and BJU was wrong in letting him go.

Is it possible that BJU and other organziations would just assume that those itmes would be mentioned.

Wow, what an intelligent thought to add. Glad you shared it.

I took voice lessons from a B.J.U. graduate. They were expensive, and worth it. But they sure weren't easy.

It's always nice to respond to you Bro. Caustic. Nice to hear from you today.

I sat under an assistant pastor who graduated from Bob Jones. He was a fine Christian and a wonderful pastor. He, however, would admit the personal standards required by Bob Jones are extreme to say the least.

BTW, I hope you sing better than you play the guitar. I've seen your bald head a couple of times on Youtube.

    Boy O Boy

Man alive....we sure are "feelin' the love" in here now...aren't we?? Though I never went to school at BJU, I live in the Greenville area and the former Dean of Students (who "administered" many of those rules) was the guy who led me to faith in Christ in 1977. Anybody that goes to school there knows (or should know if they are paying attention) the kind of rules they have there. If they can't take the heat they "never should have stepped into the kitchen". I don't agree with everything they do....but then...I have the right of dissent since I didn't go there. If ya sign the paper...then ya gotta live by the rules (or don't sign the line to begin with and prove one's self to be dishonorable). That is just MHO.

My friend once told me candidly that the biggest problem they have these days is the low degree of Christian "character" that is displayed by many of the students that come to school there now in this culture we now find ourselves in. He said that in his mind it is because of the sad spiritual state that exists today in many of our homes and churches. I couldn't disagree with him at the time and I'm sure it is no different currently...probably worse.

Should they have fired the guy...I don't know...but I don't believe the matter should be "hashed out" in the secular media and it is in my opinion regrettable that it was. (and is)

Don't worry. It's only Robert Snow.

I don't agree 100% with them, either, or my vocal coach, on his biblical interpretation of music in scripture. But he did get my money, and made me a better singer. Also, my study bible is chock full of research done by B.J.U. grads and I am grateful for their work.

BTW, a great way to get me to hit a lot of bad notes is to stick a video camera in front of me. (I'm kinda flattered that B.S. would look me up on Youtube. :love2: And I am bald. Been since my last chemo treatment, in 1988)

One thing is for sure, I'll never youtube him.
