NOrth Korea Declares State of War with South....

    Actually, North Korea did not "declare" war, they said that military exercises by South Korea had placed them in a state of war. It's an important distinction.

    As a self-described writer you should be more careful with your words.

    From the article:
    "Now that the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK have entered into an actual military action, the inter-Korean relations have naturally entered the state of war," said the statement, which was carried by Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency.

    Actually...

    ....the word declare carries many connotations. Specifically, it means to affirm, announce, decree, profess or reveal something of importance, and in this case, it was a "State of War!"

    I believe I used proper wording to describe what North Korea did. I do not wish to enter a war of semantics with you, but, in fact, I believe I used the proper terminology t describe what was affirmed...

    Thanks for looking out for my interest, but I stand by my statement. Baby Kim Jon Un did, in fact, declare [affirm, announce, decree, profess or reveal] a State of War against the South! Actually, it is merely sabrer rattling, and I doubt if anything comes out of this, except maybe some grants of a few billion dollars [from the US] to ratchet the noise of the North's sabre's down a notch or two!

    Technically, the Korean War never ended. A truce halted hostilities. Killfile.

    North Korea is an autocratic oligarchy. So, so if The Leader says a state of war exists with South Korea and the US, a state of war exists. Mr. Kim can declare war on his own authority and make it stick.

    Now, if he'll send any troops, artillery shells, or rockets south of the DMZ is a whole 'nother question.

    Agreed. My contention is over the use of the word "declare" as opposed to the actual phrase used by North Korea, "naturally entered the state of war".

    For me the phrase "declaring war" brings up memories of FDR's speech on December 8, 1941 when the U.S. declared war on Japan or when Great Britain declared war on Germany after Hitler invaded Poland.

    For a country to issue a press release in a conflict that technically has never ended (there is no peace treaty) it seems silly to use the phrase "Declare war".
