On March 23, my colleague Mark Finkelstein noted how MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry considers the unborn child a "thing" which takes a "lot of money" to "turn into a human," costing thousands of dollars to care for each year of his/her life. Now it appears that Harris-Perry thinks that, after they're born, children fundamentally belong to the state.

Narrating a new MSNBC "Lean Forward" spot, the Tulane professor laments that we in America "haven't had a very collective notion that these are our children." "[W]e have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to their communities," Harris-Perry argued.

If the state can get control of our kids then they have control of it all. You cannot tell me this is not a common agenda among liberals.

"If" -- What makes you think they haven't already?

The state has had control of our kids for a long time. Society just hasn't formally acknowledged it yet.

They don't have control of my kids or anyone I know.

    It's a common socialist belief.

The ultimate endgame with regard to education would mean an end to homeschooling and an enforcement of national standards, curricula, etc. on all schools, public and private.

If everything is to be in service to the state, then Christians (who are responsible for perpetuating creationism and a whole host of evils and hatred from the liberal point of view) at best should be forced into mental institutions (as they were in the USSR during the Brezhnev era, IIRC) or some other form of reeducation and their children removed and placed in politically correct homes or environments.
