Story here. Whatever one thought of her politics, she was a great stateswoman and stuck to her principles throughout. We're unlikely to see her like again in my lifetime.

A sad day to remember a great life.

A few years ago I watched that terrible movie about her life. Lady Thatcher deserved better, but she got the reception one gets when they challenge (and utterly destroy) the rank and file left wing of this world. She changed the world.

Sad day!!! She is one of the few in the political arena that I’ve seen cross the pages of history in my life time that I've been proud to have seen.

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher dies

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, an outspoken woman known to many as "The Iron Lady," has died at 87 after suffering a stroke.

"It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning,” Thatcher spokesperson Lord Bell said in a statement.

Thatcher led Britain's Conservatives to three election victories from 1979 to 1990, the longest continuous period in office by a British prime minister since the early 19th century. Alongside former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, Thatcher battled against communism and saw the Berlin Wall get torn down in 1989.

Of course liberals are already trashing here. It seems liberals have just come unhinged lately.

Margaret Thatcher's words were like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

It is troubling hearing how one wing of the discussion in England is absolutely running her through with their criticism, vitriol, and near hatred. During lunch I was listening to BBC World Have Your Say and the critical comments, to the point of two women denigrating Lady Thatchers femininity, made me turn the channel to other programming.

    Where is our civility?

Oh, I liked the IronLady! I'm sorry for her passing.

I did, too. I am, too. :tear:

Where are those who should be replacing those who have gone on before them?

Reagan was my president, and Thatcher my adopted Prime Minister. Are there any statesmen today of their calibre?

    Anyone?

    Anyone?

    Anyone?

Now your being obtuse again....of course not. Those caliber of people grew up with adversity at their backs, wars & economic depressions as their petri dish, and an honest wish to make the world a better place. Thats rare these days.....evidence is Barack Obama & his cohorts. Need I say more.

They're all lightweights in comparison. I can't think of any up-and-coming politicos on either side of The Pond who match Thatcher and Reagan. I think in part that's because the people, reared on a diet of cable TV trash, don't want them. More fool them, then...we get the leaders we deserve.

The Queen will attend her funeral, the first one she's been to of an ex-PM since Churchill's in 1965.

Just curious - what other PM's have died since Churchill.
Any particular reason the Queen would not have attended those funerals?

All the PMs between Churchill and Thatcher have died: Attlee (1967), Eden (1977), Macmillan (1987), Douglas-Home (1995), Wilson (1995), Heath (2005) and Callaghan (2005). She went to Churchill's because he was the wartime leader and therefore for her to go to Thatcher's is a Big Thing.
