How a christian can overcome sin in their life

HOW A CHRISTIAN CAN OVERCOME SIN IN THEIR LIFE

What most believers do not understand, especially those who believe they could lose their salvation by sinning, (of course they never point fingers at themselves) or who think you can just walk away from God...is this....

IT AIN'T ABOUT YOU...IT IS ABOUT HIM!

A believer is given the Holy Spirit at the moment upon salvation...the Holy Spirit is a part of the trinity and He is a person...He comes into a believers life and it is HE that does the "work" in their life...NOT THEM!..The bible says in John 6:44 "That no one comes to the father unless the SPIRIT DRAWS him"...wait, His "work" is not done yet

Now picture this...The Holy Spirit enters a person (in the O.T. he came and went) upon TRUE repentance and confession of faith...but just because the Holy Spirit came in doesn't mean He has total RESIDENCE in that persons life. Meaning, unless the believer SUBMITS/YIELDS...(I've talked about this before) to the call/voice and work of the Holy Spirit, He might as well live in their little toe...the person still has the Holy Spirit IN them, but He is being SQUELCHED much like the bible describes. It isn't so much that the Holy Spirit is in you that matters, but how much of the Holy Spirit do you have "working" in you cause you are in total surrender to the Lord?

Like that scale I mentioned in the "how to treat the saved homosexual" thread.

SATAN 0...............100 GOD....Depending on how much you have allowed the Holy Spirit to rein in your heart/life, will register where you end up on the scale...0 being someone who NEVER had the Holy Spirit to begin with......100 being someone totally sold out for God that it is ALL about Him and none of them.

That is where I think we all wish to be...on the 100 side. But this can only be done as we yield/submit and do our part by physically participating towards GOOD, all the while trusting God to do His part and that is to empower and enable us unto those good works. It is when man tries and do His part never considering Gods part that sin is much harder to overcome and causes us to be suspect and judgmental of those around us. It also give Satan a foothold to do what he wants and that is to devour and destroy....or you could end up a non effective Christian and be left alone to do as you please and be left in the "WILDERNESS" and no one wants the consequences of that.

 

The scale of 0.......100 is pretty self explanatory. The Holy Spirit calls many people, but not all obey that call....so that would be those on the 0 end of the scale...the Holy Spirit was working yet NOTHING, so they were NEVER saved.

Now let's put all new believers in the middle of the scale 50 and depending on their walk with God by YIELDING/SUBMITTING/OBEYING that will determine how much of the Holy Spirit is able to work with you to be more like Christ...100

Hope that makes more sense to you. ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED no matter what someone does...cause Christi did it all.

 

Thank you and I agree....I'm glad you have said what you have said, as I usually don't get much of a response good or bad for the things I present...I've written about 40 or more articles, religious and not in the last few years and I put them on my FB....so when I feel I have a good one that would fit on a few Christian forums, I do so. I do find I get more feed back on the forums. It helps me see how others read what I write or if I missed a point that needed to be added or whatever it may be....I really haven't had anyone say they don't like what I write or that they see anything really wrong with it, if they do I just explain more since I try hard to keep it to one page...or God does, I say that because I notice when I write it just FLOWS and I can put a piece out in 1/2 hour or hour without changing it all that much. I also find, when I have a thought (I have one for tonight I need to write...might put it on here when I am done) that in my mind I have bits and pieces of what I want to say and where I want to go with it...then I go to the computer and God takes me in a different direction than what I thought I would, yet still remaining true to the message. And it feels natural and not forced...so that is very good.


I just used the scale as that is what God gave me when I wrote about "How Christians Should Treat The Saved Homosexual"...God gave me the scale to show how we all have a different race/walk with God and we need to help anyone even if they are living in sin and are closer to Satan sides due to their sin or life's struggles, or they are trying to protect ourselves, or just trying to be happy in a messed up world...that God is on the other end waiting for all of us to come to Him and allow the Holy Spirit to WORK in our lives through faith and obedience.....and I have found the more I am FILLED with the spirit the more I am closer to to the side of the scale God is at.

 

Exactly...I ask people who believe they can lose their (not mine lol) salvation.."oh yeah, how do you become UNBORN?...UNJUSTIFIED?....UNSAVED?....UNREDEEMED?....UNGLORIFIED?....UNSEALED?...UNADOPTED?...UN...anything that was granted us at the moment of salvation....they don't even try to answer cause they know how silly that sounds.

 

reminds me of the "Parable Of The Seeds"....I honestly believe people who believe they can lose it never had it in the first place...for one it takes TOTAL SURRENDER to become born again...it isn't enough to just "believe" for Satan and his minions believe, yet tremble.

So That may be one reason, another is Satan uses this "LIE" to deceive many and also to cause many to argue making us look like fools and give Christ a bad name. There is much PRIDE also in this belief, for it wasn't anything I DID to earn God's favor so how can I lose something I never earned in the first place?

Luke chapter 8: 4-21: The Parable of the Seed

"And when a great multitude were coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable: 'The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road; and it was trampled under foot, and the birds of the air ate it up. And other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it, and choked it out. And other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great.'

As He said these things, He would call out, 'He who has ears to hear, let him hear.' And His disciples began questioning Him as to what this parable might be. And He said, 'To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables, in order that SEEING THEY MAY NOT SEE, AND HEARING THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND.

Now this parable is this: the seed is the word of God. And those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they may not believe and be saved. And those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away. And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity. And the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance. Now no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand, in order that those who come in may see the light. For nothing is hidden that shall not become evident, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light. Therefore take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him shall more be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.' And His mother and brothers cam to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd. And it was reported to Him, 'Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside wishing to see You.'
