Rumor has it I have successfully ran off 2 full time pastors and 3 interims over the past 12 years. I like our current pastor, but if he gets out of line, he's gone too.

    Pride cometh before a fall.....

.....and you are bragging about this? Everyone has a vice [I guess], and yours seems a little out of line with the Word. However, that is my opinion, so don't take it personal. :wavey:

Just remember this Gib...what goes around comes around. I know that isn't Scripture, but I've witnessed it more times than not! Let's hope the brethren and sistern don't "run" you off some day. And decide to tar and boil you while they're at it.

Maybe it's where I am (an abundance of churches), but it seems like most folks around here don't want to run pastors off, but they love to do some church hopping/shopping.

    Who Is This Guy???/

WHO:rolleyes::eek: ARE YOU??? Hey ya'll....who is this guy and how did he manage to accumulate 26,503 posts on the Baptist Board and almost never be seen? I've been here a while and I just don't remember him that much. Is this a "stealth" poster?

And oh yeah...If I didn't like my Pastor....I'D LEAVE....cause I wouldn't want to chance being guilty of messing with a man that God had called into the ministry. I'm not that confident in my own judgement sometimes.

Rumor has it...and that's all it is.

I've been serving in a bi-vocational position at the church since 2001. As far as the rest of the staff:

    • 1st, full-time pastor was leaving as i was coming in
    • Next, interim pastor got called to a full-time position
    • Next, interim pastor stayed until we called full-time pastor
    • Next, full-time pastor ran himself off without any help
    • Next, interim pastor stayed until we called current pastor

The association director, tongue in cheek, said he heard a rumor I was running all the pastors off. I guess if you put your trust in rumors, you could see it that way. I just saw the humor in it and played along.

    Lighten up RDude :tongue3:

It may not be right to run a pastor off, but I sure do feel bad for people who go to a church with a bad pastor. Usually for a truly bad pastor, the attendance dwindles until they can't support the pastor, and then he leaves. I've seen that happen.

If a pastor is truly in unrepentant sin, and still holds his position, what should a church do then? We are Baptists, after all, and we believe in the congregation taking an active roll in the administration of the church. At least all the Baptist churches I have ever been a part of do. So what is the biblical thing to do?

I do pray for my pastor!

It has been interesting going the full circuit re pastors. I grew up so far flung rural we were just thrilled if we could get a supply preacher once in a blue moon. If they were good we invited them back when we could scrape up the money and they would come. If not so good, well, a church is made up of the people and we rocked along just fine.

Then we lived for a time where we could have full time pastors. Ah the bliss of sitting under good teaching week after week! Wonderful, just wonderful!

And then we had the unfortunate experience of two distinct wolves in pastor's clothing. We tried praying for them. We tried talking to them. The whole churches did so. We were terrified lest we "touch God's anointed."

And then we remembered the church is made up of the people with Christ as her head. We have a full time pastor at our church and we pray for and support him. But if he EVER did anything we found scripturally reprehensible either he would go or we would.

Healthy people and a healthy pastor, spiritually speaking, are required. And neither should check their brains at the door:jesus:

Would you be able to define "bad"? The term is vague and can mean different things to different people. Based on your description, many pastors would fall under the "bad" label and I'm not so sure things are always so simple or cut and dry.
