The SDA reveres their founding prophetess, Ellen G. White, and made this statement in their "Ministry" Magazine of Oct. 1981 and have never retracted it:

"We believe the revelation and inspiration of both the Bible and Ellen White's writings to be of equal quality. The superintendence of the Holy Spirit was just as careful and thorough in one case as in the other".

Does anyone believe that Ellen White's "revelations" are equal to Scripture?

It's sounds like the SDA are preaching "another Gospel".

James 2 - we are told that "HE WHO SAID do not commit Adultery also said do not murder" James 2:11.

Question -- WHO is the "He who said"? God? or Moses?

In 2Pet 1:20-21 Peter said that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of an individual preference or interpretation - but rather "holy men of old moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from GOD" - so is Peter arguing that it is the word of the "holy man of old" or the Word of God that is the result?

In 1Thess 2 Paul argues that when the faithful saints heard the message of Paul then did NOT regard it is "merely the word of a very very wise person named Paul" -- what DID They regard inspired teaching as - according to Paul in 1Thess 2:13.

The OP is questioning how the gift of prophecy works - as if we must ignore what the Bible says about it.

Are the words of Peter and Paul taken because they are themselves small gods according to the Bible - or because they are in fact inspired by the One true God.

    1Cor 14 "each one has a revelation"

I prefer - "Give me the BIBLE - AND the Words IN the Bible".

    in Christ,

    Bob

All of your words then boil down to Ellen White's writings are equal to Scripture?

A simple yes or no would be nice.

All my words boil down to "read the actual Bible and listen to what it says about the way inspiration works".

But if you are not inclined the read the actual Bible and discuss the texts found there - well , each person has free will according to the Bible - you are free to ignore it if you so choose.

But on the off chance someone might be reading this thread that is at list a little interested in what the Bible says about the gift of prophecy - please note that there are a number of Bible prophets that write no scripture at all. 1Cor 14 was a good hint in my prior post.

Well, Scripture tells us that a "prophet" who is wrong is a false prophet.

Given all of Ellen White's false prophecies...

The SDA follows a false prophet.

Now here is where you tell me that her prophecies didn't come true because "God changed his mind."

Her prophecies concerning the USA being destroyed failed. There are more. But seriously why bother continuing to expose these things when they'll run to circular reasoning to justify it? It simply shows how deceptive this false system is.

EGW? Frankly she's a false prophet. The fact that SDA's will not reject her for this is telltale. They'll skirt around this issue and put in many rabbit trails to defend her and they'll do anything to giving avoid direct answers. This is a trait of these types of sects i.e. JW, Mormons &c.

Google 'The Clear Word Bible'. It shouldn't take long to find how EGW's actual words were put into the text, and it is justified by SDA's in the same way BobRyan is justifying her now. But in reality it's sacrilegious and blasphemous.

    Bait and switch.

Your OP was about the SDA church saying that God is the source of inspiration when it comes to prophets. I simply affirmed that such is the case according to the Bible. I never argue on this board that Baptists are supposed to think of Ellen White as one of their church prophets.

I notice you quote only you in making that accusation.

That detail is hard to miss.

No... the OP is about the SDA adding to Scripture by elevating the failed prophesies of Ellen White as equal to Scripture.

God is the source of inspiration when it comes to prophets... but that doesn't prove that Ellen White is one of them.

In fact her failed prophecies prove just the opposite.

You follow a false prophet and preach a false gospel.

In your post you quote this

In my post I quote the actual Bible -

    =======================

    =====================

    Then you bait-and-switch to

My response was to the quote dealing with the process for inspiration. Something that i think should be available to a Baptist on a Baptist board - to research and see what the Bible says about that process.

In your bait and switch you then seem to admit that you know that the claim is correct regarding the way that inspiration works when you say "
God is the source of inspiration when it comes to prophets."

    Which was my only point.

If you want to know if Ellen White was a true prophet or not - you first have to have accurate Bible doctrine in the areas where she makes a claim that God has revealed something to her. Then you can test that claim against the actual Bible.

Which is why I never come here arguing that Baptists or Methodists or ... should think of someone in another denomination as a prophet for themselves.

    in Christ,

    Bob

Actually all I or anyone else needs to do is compare her predictions with what actually came to pass and we see that she made FALSE PREDICTIONS.

    She is a FALSE PROPHET.

Is this supposed to interest me? As I said before - you cannot claim another prophet as your own. A methodist that hears about a Baptist prophet that claims God has confirmed the Bible doctrine on believer's baptism is going to wrongly assume that such a thing proves them to be a false prophet.

This is pretty easy for all of us to see - even someone who is not a Seventh-day Adventist will be able to see that point.

Truth is truth - falsehood is falsehood.

God does not inspire a prophet to proclaim falsehoods.

    YOU FOLLOW A FALSE PROPHET.

But since you wish to continue in your folly...

Please list the names of the attendees of the 1856 conference that are still alive and awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus.

It's a well known fact. One that you know yourself. And even if this were quoted, in your deception you'd justify it by that same spirit that misled her.

Wrong on both accounts. You are seeking texts to support EGW. Frankly they don't support her or the wicked spirit in her, they expose them. Not everyone has free will. Those lost are slaves to sin. John 8, Romans 6 &c. Your accusations are straw man arguments which is typical veiled in pretense one does not read Scripture, thus you are superior which is pride and works of the flesh and then the alluding to ignoring Scripture carries with it even more pride.

LOL. 'There are prophets who wrote no Scripture' (paraphrasing here just in case you use that as a loophole to further deceive yourself and find a way out). Boy does that justify EGW for writing false prophecy herself!!! Circular reason much? Allow me to answer that for you. Yes. That spirit will go to no ends in deceiving you BobRyan.

prophecy in the Apsotolic age in the church was NOT of the office of the prophet though!

BOTH Prophets/Apostles ceased into the church after John died, so whatever Ellen White is, she is NOT a prophetess of God, but more along lines of Joseph Smith!

Per the bible, she was not ANY prophetess, as she had false revelations, and taught another gospel..

God would also have a modern prophet to all Chrsitians today if there were such, not just to one group!

Most here know their Scriptures well enough to fend off your 'dissident' 'theology'. Most groups such as to which you belong play coy to real motives, that is the seeking proselytes in a covert operation. Accept for the fact of course that those grounded in truth can see your error plainly.

Your sect believes itself to be the only true church or God's remnant in last days and that all others are false.

Own up. It's why you are here.

(By the way, anyone can Google the beliefs of SDA's adhering to being the only one true church and find out for themselves.)

    Such a special group! :love2:

I've dealt with this nonsense in the past as they attempted to proselytize a family member. Once a person is deceived into your false religion, they are then made privy to the true beliefs and intents of your sect and carry on just as you are here today.

Sects such as SDAism, JW, Mormons, (you being no different) embrace a false prophet and their revelations outside of Scripture. In other words they preach a false Gospel.

In each of these groups their false prophets have given false prophecies, yes, yours included. Fact.

In addition to this comes the pretense of not proselytizing other groups with your errors which is disingenuous to say the least.

It is exactly your agenda as it is theirs.

So of course you wouldn't come right out and make the statement above which I highlighted. The fish has to be baited and caught before it is fileted. You're covert as are the other sects out to deceive. This is the behavior of all unorthodox, dissident groups who claim to be the one and true and only.

    Another known fact.

he keeps using the bible, but in the endm just as Mormons do, and the JW, its what their leader/prophet said that counts in the end!
