He's heroic to the current admin.

    Anyone: 'I'm a Christian'.

News Media: 'Shut up and keep it to yourself you villain and bigot!'

    Anyone: 'I'm conservative'.

    News Media: 'You racist!'

Anyone: 'I'm gay'. -or- 'I'm Islamic'.

News Media and current admin: 'Congratulations, you're a hero!'.

This guy is still Active duty so why is he allowed a beard? I know of soldiers in custody and they have to abide by the regulations still. I'll guess our wonderful DOJ is allowing him the beard.:BangHead:

Unless he was on active duty prior to 1986:

Personal grooming. Hair and grooming practices are governed by paragraph 1–8 of this regulation, and exceptions or accommodations based on religious practices will not be granted. As an exception, policy exceptions based on religious practice given to soldiers in accordance with AR 600–20 on or prior to 1 January 1986 remain in effect as long as the soldier remains otherwise qualified for retention.

The only other authorized reason would be for a shaving profile. Para 1-8 a (2) (c) states:

If appropriate medical authority prescribes beard growth, the length required for medical treatment must be specified. For example, “The length of the beard will not exceed
14 inch” (see TB MED 287). Soldiers will keep the growth trimmed to the level specified by appropriate medical authority, but they are not authorized to shape the growth into goatees, or “Fu Manchu” or handlebar mustaches.

He is almost three years younger than me and I went to basic training in early 1988.

This is not a new story. He's been gaming the system for months with his beard. He won't shave and the Army won't restrain him to do it for him.

Our govt is bowing at the alter of Political correctness.

I guess they have to keep paying this guy until they sentence him (which should have already been done btw). But yeah, I was angered when I learned the Army was going to allow him to grow a beard while awaiting his day in court.
