Thursday May 23, 1863 the Seventh-day Adventist Church formally organizes into a church.

    http://www.adventist.org/150/

What is missing from that link is that "As MUCH" as the Seventh-day Adventist church is indebted to a Baptist preacher by the name of William Miller for their pre-millennial 2nd coming view and also consistent day-for-a-year model for Daniel 7,8,9 (as well as the 1844 date for the 2300 years of Dan 8) -- the Seventh-day Adventist church is indebted as much if not more to the Seventh-day Baptists and specifically a Baptist woman by the name of Rachael Oaks as she was used by God to introduce Adventists to the subject of the 4th commandment and God's original intent in that regard.

Thanks to the Baptists - for helping to create this denomination.

The Adventist Church began in the 1860's with a unique emphasis on end-time doctrine, health reform and education.

The November 2005 National Geographic and a book, The Blue Zones (2008), profiled how Adventists are the longest-living people in the United States. In 2011, USA Today reported the Seventh-day Adventist Church was among the fastest-growing denominations in this country with approximately 1.1 million members out of more than 17 million world wide.

The Seventh-day Adventist educational system is the second-largest Christian school system in the world, after the Roman Catholic system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh-day_Adventist_education

And then of course I recently found out from members here - about a surprising level of consistency with the Baptist Confession of Fath 1689 with it's teaching about the moral law of God being the TEN Commandments - given to mankind in Eden.
    http://www.spurgeon.org/~phil/creeds/bcof.htm#part19

And with the 1689 Confession stating that Genes 2:3 is the giving of the 4th commandment to mankind.

and with C.H Spurgeon's affirmation of it -
"This ancient document is the most excellent epitome of the things most surely believed among us. It is not issued as an authoritative rule or code of faith, whereby you may be fettered, but as a means of edification in righteousness. It is an excellent, though not inspired, expression of the teaching of those Holy Scriptures by which all confessions are to be measured."

    http://www.spurgeon.org/~phil/creeds/bcof.htm

And also thanks to members here for explaining certain consistencies with the General Baptists and of course Free Will Baptists.

    in Christ,

    Bob

[FONT=&quot]Thanks to the Baptist Confession of Faith 1689 for admitting to the following points of Bible truth. (The Ten Commandments as the MORAL Law of God and the Sabbath Commandment in Gen 2:1-3)

    THE LAW OF GOD

19.1 God gave to Adam a law of universal obedience written in his heart,1 and a specific precept not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.2 By this he bound him and all his descendants to personal, total, exact, and perpetual obedience. God promised life on fulfilling it, and threatened death on breaching it, and he endued him with power and ability to keep it.3
    (1) Gen 1:27; Ecc 7:29; Rom 2:12a,14-15
    (2) Gen 2:16-17
    (3) Gen 2:16-17; Rom 10:5; Gal 3:10,12

19.2 The same law that was first written in the human heart continued to be a perfect rule of righteousness after the fall.1 It was delivered by God upon Mount Sinai2 in ten commandments (written in two tables) the first four containing our duty towards God, and the other six our duty to our fellow beings.3
    (1) For the Fourth Commandment: Gen 2:3; Exo 16; Gen 7:4; 8:10,12. For the Fifth Commandment: Gen 37:10. For the Sixth Commandment: Gen 4:3-15. For the Seventh Commandment: Gen 12:17. For the Eighth Commandment: Gen 31:30; 44:8. For the Ninth Commandment: Gen 27:12. For the Tenth Commandment: Gen 6:2; 13:10-11
    (2) Rom 2:12a,14-15
    (3) Exo 32:15-16; 34:4,28; Deu 10:4

19.3 Besides this law, commonly called the moral law, God was pleased to give the people of Israel ceremonial laws containing several typical ordinances. These were partly concerning worship, and in them Christ was prefigured—his graces, actions, sufferings, and benefits.1 They also gave instructions about various moral duties.2 All of these ceremonial laws were appointed only until the time of the New Testament, when Jesus Christ abrogated them and took them away, for he was the true Messiah and only law-giver, and was empowered to do this by the Father.3

As you can see - there may be a couple of points where the debate between popular Baptist pulpits and Seventh-day Adventists go BEYOND that of in-house Baptist debates -- but not many, and very often the debates between the two circle back to the very points that are merely in-house Baptist debates.

    Amazing!

What on earth did "those who worshipped God in truth" do before the 7DAC was formed? Good thing they "got it all straightened out" before two millennia of Christianity passed off the scene.

Fortunately - the SDA church does not teach that only SDAs are saved.

Maybe they got that from the Baptists as well ;)

Yes, a Baptist who went astray on doctrine:
In the summer of 1844, Millerite Adventists came to believe that Jesus would return on October 22, 1844

But the Lord DID NOT return - which made Miller a false prophet. And what does the Bible say about a false prophet?

According to Walter Martin - William Miller's teaching on a premillennial second coming was the great shame and horror of his day for almost nobody was premill in the 1830's and 1840's (and yes -even later).

Thanks again - to a Baptist preacher by the name of William Miller.

And then of course we have the 7th-day Baptist witness of Rachael Oaks as well as the Baptist Confession of Faith - 1689.

All of which are wonderful contributions to a group that is now over 17 million in baptized members and many millions more in attendance.

    in Christ,

    Bob

If you stick with the Bible definition of a prophet as God gives it - then it is one who God speaks to via dreams and visions Numbers 12:6. Something William Miller never claimed regarding the event that was to take place in 1844.

But if we are free to "make stuff up" then we could "make up" the idea that anyone who reads the Bible and gets the details about a future event wrong - "is a false prophet", for the sake of emotional appeal.

For those in a "make stuff up" religious system where emotional appeal trumps the Bible - that will do just fine.

But for those in an Acts 17:11 sola scriptura religious system - well then the Bible definition wins out over men just "making stuff up" about what the definition of a prophet is.

Some will accept this - some will not. All have free will.

    in Christ,

    Bob

"Make stuff up" like giant aliens on other planets?

Or "make stuff up" like Jesus going into his den and closing the door while he is "making his list and checking it twice - gonna find out who's naughty and nice"?

You know - the stuff of Ellen White's delusions.

So I was wondering, does the bible the SDA uses start off with "Once upon a time" with each chapter?

Also, is it not odd that your hero Ellen White, in all her writings, never condemns homosexuality? Maybe she was sympathic to the idea?

You seem to be reading from a "once upon a time text" yourself - where in the world did you get that stuff???

When one of your vaccuous accusations "just quotes you" as its source - is that when you imagine it will "suffice" for objective unbiased readers - or are you just thinking outloud?

Now wait! Are you now saying that we are NOT the only planet in the universe?? Really ?? when did that happen?

(When I was taking in physics they assured me that we have no other evidence at all of any other planets outside of our solar system - in the entire universe. We are all sticking with that one - right?)

Or are you trying to tell us that Goliath is a true story and not fiction.

    Really? -- true??

hmmm... Guess I am going to have to go back and re-think that one now.

Goliath is real. He is in Hell now.
He is / was not an alien.
There are other planets outside our solar system.
So far none have been discovered that could foster the same or similar kinds of life forms that we have on earth.
When it is proven that there is other life in the universe, I will give you my assessment of the situation then. Even if there is, God created it.

A very good assessment of life outside of earth. The Bible is silent on the subject. If there is life, God created it. It really makes no difference to our faith. Also, there are no fairy tales in the Bible. There are plenty of them in SDA theology.

Again, you failed to answer the question, why did Ellen White never address the issue of homosexual activity, an activity strongly condemned by Scripture.

The only conclusion is that Ellen White is alive and well. She is a producer and writer at the SyFy staff. Here are some of her more famous works.

"Attack of the Giant Killer Tomatoes That Came From the Land of Milk and Honey"
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind: David Meets Goliath"
"Scottie Beams Up Phillip From Ethiopia to Azotus"
"The Day Joshua's Watch Stood Still"
    "Enoch Visits the Twilight Zone"
"The Christmas Star Was a Supernova"

I don't believe that you have THOUGHT about it at all let alone re-thinking it.

You have no way of testing whether this "vision" of Ellen White was true or fantasy.

But you buy it "hook, line and sinker" anyway.

I must admit though that it has as much basis in reality as the rest of her delusions.
