Fundamentalist and other types of Christians usually dismiss all dancing as being sinful. IFB make a good case and to a point I agree with them. HOWEVER what they miss is that to me dancing is what you see in this film.

Yes thats right I like the old 1930's style dancing and other forms of dancing that do not lead to sin. People that assume I am in sin for dancing have got it wrong, because I do not do immoral dancing as I do honest dancing. I suggest those that do not like dancing to do more research and discover that not all dancing is sinful. Did not David dance before the Lord?

    Here's my response!

...I love this praise song. It answers the question as to why I dance in church, or whenever the spirit comes upon me.

Give this song a listen it is really soul stirring!

Thanks for the reminder. Petra sang this song in 1989 and I am gonna launch iTunes and play that one again.

I grew up in the age of ballroom dancing - could still enjoy it, however the Scriptures teach that it is good for a man not to touch a woman.

I touch my wife, children, and as occasion demands the hand of woman who wants to shake mine.

All this thinking that it isn't sin - sexual or otherwise - is merely a lie the devil perpetrates.

In the study of dance, it is given that the person(s) must "give over" to the intent of the music and control by the partner or form of the dance. (That is a single sentence reduction of a course long dance class in traditional dances).

The believer is to find no place in their for them to be "given over" or controlled by other than Christ.

    Is dancing sin - yep.

And David was wrong to hop and strut "free willy" around the crowded streets and then proclaim it as "before the Lord." The way he treated his wife and soon fall into sin with another man's wife should leave us some clues that he was already dabbling in not controlling every wayward thought which would be used by the evil one(s) to press him to debauchery.

He would have been locked up, spent time in prison, and made to register for the rest of his life as a sex offender in today's USA.

And they are completely wrong. Not all dancing is sinful.

Tell us one that isn't. Give the details of it, the performance, and the setting.

Can't be any of these from the 1900's

    Waltz
    Charleston
    Lindy
    Twist
    Bunny Hop
    Square
    Tango
... (continue the list at your own will)...

I don't know about the 2000's but what I have seen is certainly not God glorifying.

    This is nothing "God glorifying!"

    It is mindless repetitive tripe.

Is this REALLY what you consider actual worship to a Holy God?

    David danced NUDE.

That is the intent of the message of the song. It is repeated over and over.

NO ONE knows the form (steps and sway) that David took, but from the traditional Jewish "line dancing" that has come down from the ancients, it is more likely a street dance done throughout the Mediterranean area(s).

The fact remains - This tripe is worthless to both worship and praise of the true Creator and Sustainer, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

I, for the life of me, cannot imagine what problem anyone would have with the Waltz.

But to add to the list there is:

    Square Dance

    Two Step

    One Step

    Swing

All of those done with your spouse, in public or otherwise, are great if that is something you enjoy and do not in any way dishonor God.

    Well,

I will never quite follow David's quite candid, transparent, revealing form of dance. But, I still dance, except when you are around to avoid causing you to stumble! Shalom!

I think you misunderstood me, just saying I like the stooges, I don't necessarily disagree with your OP either.

What do you all think about The Twizzle ?

Hey Abner, why don't Baptists make love while standing up?

I don't know Lum, why is that?

Because, Abner, it might lead to dancing.

    What is wrong with it?

What about Zumba in a swimming pool filled with salty water? There will be no mixed bathing of course.

"Whatever is not of The Faith--------------------------------is sin."

Real Christians are not conformed to the world.

Now what? Confessionals are open 24-7.

    Even so, come Lord Jesus.

    Dancing .....

....it's like anything else in this world.

[1] There are definite sinful abuses/misuses of it that Christians should abstain from and there are proper uses that are not sinful and sometimes - in a proper context - could potentially even bring glory to the Lord from it.

[2] There are Christians who will ONLY see the former and make it ALL sinful and wicked.

[3] There are Christians who will ONLY see the latter and ignore the dangers of the former.

[4] Groups [2] and [3] will fight about this until doomsday.

Why do we make common that which is sacred?

The best post of this thread. Yes you are right. Not all dancing is bad but there is some that is.
