If at a High School Graduation...

    If at a High School Graduation... a Muslim student mentioned how Allah guided his life and gave a very short prayer .... what would you do?
    Complain to the school board
    Get up and leave
    Be respectful of his right
    Start saying the Lords prayer out loud (hoping others would join)

    There is a difference between a student quoting a famous author or scholarship and a prayer.

    I would not leave, I would be quiet and respectful of his time, and I would pray to the God of Heaven that the young man might one day be saved.

    Quoting the Lord's Prayer does not equate to what the Muslim student (fictional) did. However, IF the Muslim student quoted a well known prayer of Mohammed - No problem at all, that is (quoting famous people) is usually done in such speeches.

    As long as all the speakers were given the same freedom to speak about what they wanted, I wouldn't have a problem.

    When Muslims pray it is in Arabic, and it's loud and never short. I would not bow my head or stand for the prayer or whatever else that would make me look like I was condoning his practice. If I didn't have kin folk graduating I would leave.

    One of the rare times that I agree with Zaac. :flower:

    Religious freedom in this country, means exactly that. Freedom to pray. Freedom to worship, in public, as one chooses. (within the confinds of common decency)

    If a student (of any recognized "religion") prays I don't have a problem with it. As long as a Baptist student can offer his/her prayer, if in the same situation.

    If a Muslin student prays, in public, it's an opportunity to hear, then afterwards to step forward and share the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are given a choice. Protest, walk away in anger or to step foward and serve our Lord. And/Or, at least pray for God to lead him/her to Him.

    Let's see:

    Is the context set prior to 1947, where Christians are just as free to speak, or is this set in the 21st Century where the name of Christ is censored and Islam is hallowed?

    While I could not participate in the prayer I would listen and then look forward to discussion with others afterward.
