I think that the beginning of the article is 100% incorrect and highlights man's thinking and not what God says.

If you break man's law that is not against God's law after God's law tells you to submit to authority, it is a sin.

A sin that is just as worthy of death in front of a Holy God as would be rape or the murder of millions.

Scripture shows the consequences to be different. But ALL sin is equally punishable by death.

10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. James 2:10

So if we're guilty of breaking all of it...

But it's not important what WE think, is it ZAAC? What is important is what the Scripture says and how God responds to sin in the Scriptures. That was the point of the article.

God responds to all sin the same: He says it(ALL of it) is punishable by death.

The unrepentant 1 mph over the speed limit is just as worthy of death as is the murder of millions.

    Death is death.

And when we start telling folks that all sins aren't equal, it presents a picture that a different Savior or more of Him is needed to cover their sin than is needed to cover our own.

That type of confusion is not of God.

You break one, you've broken them all. And the same blood of the same Jesus Christ covers the same equal sin.

ZAAC, you're missing the point. Your mind is set and you wouldn't change unless Jesus came down and told you to your face that you are wrong. There are a ton of Scriptures posted in the articles and if you reject those I have nothing else, and my plates too full right now to do more.

    Have a nice day.

Sounds like yours is too. But like I said, let's deal with Scripture. I don't need to know what John Piper or anyone else says. Where in God's word does He show that sin's are different?

And they will stay in those articles then. I would imagine their minds were made up too before they wrote the articles.

ALL sin is punishable by death.

This is nothing but another attempt to pick on particular sins as so many in the church have gotten good at doing.

You break one, you've broken them all so the sin of one is just as deserving of death as the next.

    You too.:flower:

I agree, but want to add that not all sins effects us inwardly the same.

    Absolutely agree.

But I think perhaps one of the reasons God's word tells us that if we've broken one commandment, that we've broken them all is to keep us from puffing up and acting like somebody else's sin is worse than our own.

I don't think that many in the church realize that when they do this and purport that all sin is not equal, that it gives the impression that certain people need more Jesus to cover their sin than others.

Agree, but another reason could be for those whom justify the sin with ( it's just a little lie, not like I killed someone)

Excellent suggestion, and here is what scripture says:
    And also this:
It sure looks like Jesus recognizes different degrees of sin.

Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin." Some may need to read real slow to catch it. ;)

Jedi, you give good scripture to support your view. Unfortunatly, there is scripture that does not support it. Perhaps, this topic is another agree to disagree one. I will study this more and your verses, in hope for clarity.

For those who want more Scripture:

Over and over the Bible teaches, either explicitly or implicitly, that some sins are worse than others.
    • God waited four hundred years before giving the Israelites the promised land because the iniquity of the Amorites was not yet complete (Gen. 15:16). They were sinners all along, but eventually their sins merited drastic punishment.

    • The Mosaic legislation prescribes different penalties for different infractions and requires different sacrifices and payments to make restitution.

    • Numbers 15 recognizes the difference between unintentional sins and those done “with a high hand” (Num. 15:29-30). Dropping a four letter word when you hit your thumb with a hammer is not as bad as giving God the middle finger.

    • Some sins in Israel’s history were more notorious than others. Judging from the Lord’s outrage, sacrificing your child to Molech was probably worse than losing your patience (Jer. 32:35).

    • Jesus intimates that some peoples will be judged more severely on the day of judgment because they had more reason to believe (Matt. 10:15). We will all be judged according to the light we have.

    • Though not saved by his good works, Cornelius was nevertheless “a devout man who feared God” (Acts 10:2). Even among non-Christians there is a difference between being a decent human being and being a dirty, rotten scoundrel.

    1 John 5:16-19
If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life--to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death. We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

    Hebrews 10:26-31
For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

    two DIFFERENT situations discussing here!

regarding salvation/eternal life, yes, ANY sin makes us sinners condemn to Hell...

    While on earth though...

God DOES have different punishment for different sins!

taht Justice, for throwing away a stick of gum on the sidewalk and littering NOT punished same as raping and killing someone!
