Yes,I am aware of the many negatives about this version of God's Holy Word. I will address them at a later time in this thread. You will not surprise me with anything new. Some readings I certainly oppose. I know that it was produced with few conservative Evangelicals. But first I'd like to quote a number of striking passages.

Psalm 23:6:Yes,goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life,and I will live in the Lord's house as long as I live.

Pursue is a very apt word in this context. "Follow me" is rather weak in comparison.

Ephesians 6:18b: Stay alert by hanging in there and praying for all the believers.

Philippians 2:6 : Though he was in the form of God,he did not consider being equal with God something to exploit.

Philippians 3:1b :It's no trouble for me to repeat the same things to you because they will keep you on tract.

Philippians 3:8b-9a: I have lost everything for him,but what I lost I think of as sewer trash,so that I might gain Christ and be found in him.

Hebrews 1:3a :The Son is the light of God's glory and the imprint of God's being.

James 5:5b:You have stuffed your hearts in preparation for the day of slaughter.

2 Peter 2:12 : These false teachers are like irrational animal,mere creatures of instinct, born to be captured and destroyed. They slander what they don't understand and,like animals,they will be destroyed.

I have many more examples that I will give later on. Like it or not,this version is getting to be very popular. I think it needs a number of evangelical revisions,but it it is taking its place in the top selling English Bible translations. It leans a bit more towrd the mediating side of things. However,the largely functionally-equivalent NLTse is better overall in my very humble opinion.

 

Psalm 139:24 : Look to see if there is any idolatrous way in me,then lead me on the eternal path.

Acts 18:15 : However,since these are squabbles about a message,names,and your own Law,deal with them yourselves. I have no desire to sit in judgment over such things.

Romans 6:19a : (I'm speaking with ordinary metaphors because of your limitations.)

1 Thess. 2:16b : Their sins are constantly pushing the limit. God's wrath has caught up with them in the end.

1 Timothy 6:10 : The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some have wandered away from the faith and have impaled themselves with a lot of pain because they made money their goal.

1 Tim. 6:14 : Obey this order without fault or failure until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am not impressed with these renderings,especially the last two. The CEB needs a rewrite. The NLT is superior.

Not really. The NLTse does a better job for the market they hope to capture.

 

You are right about that Pilgrim. The target marget is really the more theologically liberal-minded. I misspoke.

In my OP I had said that I would address some negatives later on. Certainly the Human One is a big negative. But there was a thread in the past,maybe 2 or three years ago that addressed this and other problems with the CEB. I had contributed some particulars at that time.
