In another thread, someone state "Libertarians were the voice of reason"

    Just what is their thinking?

I attempted to go to the LP web page, but it was not available. I did find the Calif LP web page.

Here is some of their platform:

    1 B Make gambling legal
1 C Allow any consensual sexual activity
1 D Many all drugs legal
1 F No prohibition on cell phones
(would that make texting and driving legal?)
    2 Allow any s-explicit movies
    (does that include child p0r)
    Complete deregulation of TV,radio, ect
So anybody could start a radio station -anywhere - can you visualize the overlap?
3 DMV should not be allowed to collect SSAN - (as long as it is not on you license)
4 Parents should not be required to register birth of children
5 Oppose dragnets to round up immigrants
(Note they did not use the word "illegal")
6 Oppose a official national language
8 Oppose cops using excessive force
(Does that mean cops can only say "pretty please")
9 End all mandatory licensing for medicine-- (yea, right)
    11 Abortion should be legal
    (this alone is bad enough)
12 Favor homosexual "marriage" (and they are not opposed to polygamy)
(well, at lest they are consistent)
18 Oppose drinking age limits, zoning of bars and DWI checkpoints (really)

V-1 Basically against all taxation (granted we have too much taxation - but we need some)
    3 End compulsory school attendance
(at least up to the 10th grade)
7 End usury laws (ready for 100% APR)
10 repeal restrictions on bikes, skateboards, ect on public streets
12 repeal driver license laws (yea, right)

There are many more items I disagree with. On the other hand - there are several items I do agree with.

Bottom line - Libertarians are no different than Republicans or Democrats

    THIS IS A LONG POST
PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THE ENTIRE POST

The last 2 Presidential elections most of the Libertarians that I know down here voted for BHO. To me that isn't a voice of reason. Their over all views are more in line with the democrats or that is how I read it.

Here's some "reason" for ya. For the last sixty years it's been the democrats and republicans that have been creating all the problems. And for the last sixty years y'all have been voting for them then complaining about the problems they create then y'all turn around and vote for them again!

How reasonable is that? If you keep voting for people that create problems yer gonna get just what ya vote for. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome . . . yo.

Lets see I tried on three occasions to be a
Christian Radio salesman - and I failed.
I tried a fourth time - I ended up being promoted to a station manager position.

Insanity Note definition # 3 is in the eye of the beholder -
    - and I contend anyone who agrees with the platform I listed in the OP is guilty of insanity.

BTW that "definition" listed in post # 3 is a quote by Einstein

You list is why I can't call myself a "Libertarian" even though I disagree with most Democrats and all establishment Republicans.

Under the premise of "liberty" far too much slavery to sin seems to be endorsed.

You're right. Each of the 3 groups are picking and choosing. Sad so many are picking & choosing the same items (or nearly the same) from the menu these days.

Some of the concepts of Libertarianism are good. I do not want drugs legal. I am not for any movie goes. I am for a national language called English among others listed. So I would not make a good libertarian. The Consititution Party has a good platform if the leadership was there to make it work.

I tried a few times to get you to answer questions. I failed.

So instead of asking you questions I'm going to ask everyone else here.

Do any of you reading this want want inflation, one war after another that kills young Americans, bailouts of Washington's Wall Street cronies, an unsustainable Social Security system, huge wasteful bureaucracies, our freedoms taken away, or politicians who ignore the Constitution?

I can agree with at least these....depending on what you mean with number 8(everybody is against "excessive" force)......and I have no problem with local zoning restrictions.

Have you studied the impact and ramifications that these would have on society in these times? Times when it seems that fewer and fewer people feel obligated to take responsibility for the results of their actions.

NC approved the lottery a while back. Now there are commercials on TV promoting same. AND, there are commercials targeting those with gambling additions.

SNL died about 4 years ago from cancer. Desperate for cure, she turned to an herbalist in addition to treatments from her doctors. Her death came about due to complications from chemotherpy. Her herbalist prescribed herbal remedies that were contradictory to her chemo. Later, her herbalist was put out of business when she was arrested for prescribing drugs and giving medical advice without a licence. Don't tell me that all drugs should be legal. There are ramifications far beyond whether it's OK for someone to smoke pot.

End required school attendance - That's another whole can of worms. Education needs MAJOR reform at the local level and federal government should get out of the business of education. Adults are walking down the street who can't answer basic questions on subjects that are supposed to be taught in elementary school. You want more of them walking the streets?

On another side of this issue. My father (born 1914) was robbed of the opportunity to attend school when he was a child. He could not read/write his name. He suffered all his life because of that limitation. You want to give people, like those who robbed him (aunt & uncle), even more opportunity to do the same to others?

Last one, for now. Zoning. Admitting it is one of my hot buttons. I live on 3 acres of land. Wheat field in front of my house. Forest land on the other 3 sides. Nearest neighbor is more than a 1/2 mile away. I cannot build a personal workhop in my backyard because ZONING regs require 10+ acres of land for me to do so.

There are serious ramifications to be considered before taking a "for" or "against" any wholesale application of the law. Especially TODAY. Have you fully considered them for the items you've chosen from the list?

Apologize if this rant comes across as being against you personally, Inspector Javert. It isn't intended to be that. I've just used your post to climb on my soapbox this morning. Thank you for the opportunity to speak my piece. Much appreciated. :flower:

WOW!!!! I take it you needed that OT.:applause:
No worries! Glad to be of service....

My list was indeed hastily construed, but I would support most of them. I am somewhat non-commital on the Zoning Restrictions issue because I default to letting you do whatever you want on Private Property (except, perhaps, drop poison in a river upstream from MY property!!)
This is indeed....the WRONG type of zoning restriction.
I am also a little hesitant about the legalization of ALL drugs...but, for merely practical purposes, I have come to believe that their illegalization has simply been impractical if the end goal is to actually keep people FROM using them.

I do not understand precisely what your argument is in reference to the chemo-therapy and cancer issue. Does that have to do with medical liscensure or prescription medications? I do not believe in government liscensure to engage in a trade....including the medical field.

I'm a small "l" libertarian. I disagree with their position on abortion and on letting border criminals go. Otherwise, that list more or less describes me.

I believe the government should be limited to only those things enumerated in Article I, Section 8 and, after that, whatever we do in our own lives should be our own business.

If a person wants to do drugs or go to a prostitute, then, obviously, as a Christian, I would disagree with their choice, but it is their choice.

As for not requiring medical licensing, I understand why that looks bad on paper, but in reality, people do have the right to seek medical care from whoever they want to.

And as for Libertarians not being any different from Democrats or Republicans (or, as I like to call them, Democrat Lite), your own list shows that isn't the case. Democrats and their co-conspirators in the GOP favor more regulation, not less. Your list shows that Libertarians favor less regulation.

Article I, Section 8 pertains to the FEDERAL government. States / Commonwealth have more leeway. Remember what the 10th amendment says?
Just curious -if you are a "small l" which party are you registered with?

IMHO, one purpose of of Govt is to protect me from others.

Yes, I know exactly what it says. I taught it for years.

I'm still registered as a Republican, but only because it's more trouble than I care to go through to change it. I haven't voted Republican in years and I don't believe I have anything in common, philosophically, with the GOP anymore.

I tend to vote Libertarian, Constitution, or Independent.

That may be, but that's never been the case. The purpose of government is to protect your liberty, not your safety and, even if it was, none of the things on the list have anything to do with your safety.

It seems that purpose has morphed into the government protecting itself from the citizens it's stealing from and enslaving.
