I've been reading posts her for some time, but am a fairly new poster.

In light of the recent discussions within the SBC and elsewhere, I thought I would ask who believes they are a Calvanist, and who does not.

    Simple yes, or no answer.

My apologies if this poll has been done.

    Thanks for your interest.

I wouldn't say I'm a Calvinist, so much as I adhere to a Reformed understanding of Christianity.

A subtle distinction, but a distinction, nonetheless.

I thought about putting some other choices, but decided to keep it simple.

    Thanks for your reply.

I often play in tennis tournaments in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. Love the courts at Peninsula Club.

There really isn't a choice for me to check.

I am not a true "hard shell" calvinist, nor would I fully (or totally) fit in the Reformed group. I am definately NOT Arm. and do have more significant disagreement with the extreme Arm view.

I have been schooled by both and been under the preaching of both extreme views. I personally have heard far more anamosity expressed by an Arm. side than those of a more cal view.

However on the BB, I have noticed that often animosity can be set asside and a great deal of true meat of the Word can be discussed.

But then there are some who just never can get past a chance to post without some demeaning characterizations.

As a new comer to the BB, I would sugest that you hang on to the Scriptures, ignore the vitriol of the extremist who do not support their views with Scriptures, and look for a nuggets of truth from all who post.

If you are watching a thread and have a question about who is expressing which view, then keep watching - it won't be long before you will read the clues.

I answered no, because I refuse to be associated with the name Calvin. I fully believe in doctrines of sovereignty and grace.

I used to play golf there. My brother was a serious tennis player back in the 70s and early 80s. I think he played in some tournaments there.

    I play just for fun.

Usually, when I'm down there, you can find me at Lulu's.

Yeah! Unlike us Calvinists who don't believe in sovereignty or grace!

    Oh, wait...

Thanks for the advice. Some of the threads and posts are very "interesting" on a Baptist board. The evolution of some of the threads is also very interesting.

    Very good question.

I certainly am not energetic! :)

I would answer your question by saying I am really both and do not sense God's plan of salvation as complete without both:
highly monergistic when it comes to God is never submissive to fallen humankind, and all matters of salvation from the first impulse of conviction to the final glorification is totally of God.

synergistic enough to know that the sanctification of God obliges the believer to respond to the impulses of the Holy Spirit - even before there is mental ascent of Salvation (ex. jailor - "What must I DO to be saved" not knowing that the very expression indicates he was already). Without the conduit of sanctification, there would be no prompting, no conviction, and therefore any expression of "accepting Christ" is worthless.
Too often there are those who grasp with all might to some element of freedom of choice / will, therefore, they have to bring a certain degree of "softening" to the authority of God over all matters of faith and practice. When really it is all of Christ "the author and finisher."
