    I hope a ton of you participate in this....as there's been a lot of dicussion about music in church as of late.

    So what, if you had one choice in a "Singsperation" at church, hymn or praise chorus would you request be played and sung among the congregation! And if you want, tell us why this hymn or praise song is your favorite of favorites? :thumbs:

    Thanks and many blessings to you....

    THERE IS A FOUNTAIN, EXCERPT:
    Dear Dying Lamb, Thy precious Blood will never lose it's power,
    Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.

    MY HOPE LIVES ON, BY ANDREW PETERSON, EXCERPT:
    I can see the crowd of men retreating
    As he stands between the woman and their stones
    And if mercy in his holy heart is beating
    Then in the night my hope lives on

    I remember how they scorned the son of Mary
    He was gentle as a lamb, gentle as a lamb
    He was beaten, he was crucified, and buried
    And in the night, my hope was gone

    But the rulers of earth could not control Him
    They did not take his life--he laid it down
    All the chains of earth could never hope to hold him
    So in the night my hope lives on

    ABSENT FROM FLESH, BY ISAAC WATTS, ADAPTED BY SOJOURN MUSIC:
    Absent from flesh, O blissful thought
    What joy that moment brings
    Freed from the blame my sin has brought,
    From pain and death and its sting.

    Absent from flesh, O glorious day!
    In one triumphant stroke
    My reckoning paid, my charges dropped,
    And the bonds 'round my hands are broke.

    I go where God and glory shine,
    To one eternal day
    And this failing body I now resign,
    For the angels point my way
    For the angels point my way

    Absent from flesh! Then rise, my soul,
    Where feet nor wings could climb,
    Beyond the sky, where planets roll,
    And beyond all keep of time.

    I go where God and glory shine,
    To one eternal day
    And this failing body I now resign,
    For the angels point my way
    For the angels point my way

    Love that one...

    There is a Fountain [excert] is a great old hymn! And I'm happier than a bird with two worms to feast on, that you are back with the board!

    I didn't think you'd be gone long. This place is like potato chips: I know you cant just eat one!

    Grace 'tis a Charming Sound

    Grace, ’tis a charming sound,
    Harmonious to the ear;
    Heaven with the echo shall resound,
    And all the earth shall hear.

    Grace first contrived the way
    To save rebellious man;
    And all the steps that grace display
    Which drew the wondrous plan.

    Grace first inscribed my name
    In God’s eternal book;
    ’Twas grace that gave me to the Lamb,
    Who all my sorrows took.

    Grace led my roving feet
    To tread the heavenly road;
    And new supplies each hour I meet,
    While pressing on to God.

    Grace taught my soul to pray
    And made mine eyes o’erflow;
    ’Twas grace which kept me to this day,
    And would not let me go.

    Grace all the work shall crown,
    Through everlasting days;
    It lays in heaven the topmost stone,
    And well deserves the praise.

    Beside the Gospel Pool

    Beside the Gospel pool
    Appointed for the poor;
    From year to year, my helpless soul
    Has waited for a cure.

    How often have I seen
    The healing waters move;
    And others, round me, stepping in
    Their efficacy prove.

    But my complaints remain,
    I feel the very same;
    As full of guilt, and fear, and pain.
    As when at first I came.

    O would the Lord appear
    My malady to heal;
    He knows how long I’ve languished here;
    And what distress I feel.

    How often have I thought
    Why should I longer lie?
    Surely the mercy I have sought
    Is not for such as I.

    But whither can I go?
    There is no other pool
    Where streams of sovereign virtue flow
    To make a sinner whole.

    Here then, from day to day,
    I’ll wait, and hope, and try;
    Can Jesus hear a sinner pray,
    Yet suffer him to die?

    No: He is full of grace;
    He never will permit
    A soul, that fain would see His face,

    Guide Me O' Thou Great Jehovah

    Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
    Pilgrim through this barren land;
    I am weak, but thou art mighty;
    Hold me with thy powerful hand:
    Bread of heaven,
    Feed me till I want no more.

    Open now the crystal fountain
    Whence the healing stream doth flow;
    Let the fire and cloudy pillar
    Lead me all my journey through:
    Strong deliverer,
    Be thou still my strength and shield.

    When I tread the verge of Jordan,
    Bid my anxious fears subside;
    Death of deaths, and hell’s destruction,
    Land me safe on Canaan’s side:
    Songs of praises,
    I will ever give to thee.

    They don't get any better than these. Now, there may be some as good, but in no way, shape, form, or fashion, are they any better. :thumbs::thumbsup::thumbs::thumbsup:

    I have two. They are "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" and "It Is Well With My Soul." I think the lyrics to the first hymn are some of the most intense, passionate, carefully worded of any hymn I have read. On the second hymn, aside from the lyrics, the story behind the hymn.

    The hymn "It is Well with My Soul" becomes closest to heart for one undergoing grief. It is Well lyrics was written by a Presbyterian lawyer Horatio G. Spafford (1828-1888) and composed by Philip P. Bliss (1838-1876). This deeply touching sacred song has long been loved.

    Text Author and Hymn-writer Horatio G. Spafford

    Spafford was born on October 20, 1828 in North Troy, New York. He was a successful lawyer in Chicago who maintained a keen interest in Christian activities, deeply spiritual and devoted to the scriptures.

    Chicago Fire and a Son's Loss

    Sometime in 1871, a fire in Chicago heavily devastated the city, and months before that , Spafford had invested hugely in real estate by the shore of Lake Michigan. The disaster greatly wiped out his holdings. Before the fire, Spafford also experienced the loss of his son.

    Calm Before Spafford's Worst Life Storm

    Two years after the fire, Horatio Spafford planned a trip to Europe for him and his family. He wanted a rest for his wife and four daughters, and also to assist Moody and Sankey in one of their evangelistic campaigns in Great Britain. He was not meant to travel with his family. The day in November they were due to depart, Spafford had a last minute business transaction and had to stay behind in Chicago. Nevertheless, he still sent his wife and four daughters to travel as scheduled on the S.S. Ville du Havre, expecting to follow in a few days. On November 22, the ship laden with his wife and daughters was struck by the Lockhearn, an English vessel, and sank in few minutes.

    Spafford's Wife "Saved Alone"

    After the survivors were finally landed somewhere at Cardiff, Wales, Spafford's wife cabled her husband with two simple words, "Saved alone." Shortly after, Spafford left by ship on his way where his beloved four daughters had drowned, and pen at hand, wrote this most poignant text so significantly descriptive of his own personal grief – "When sorrows like sea billows roll..." The hymn "It is Well with My Soul" was born.

    It is Well with My Soul

    It is noteworthy that Horatio Spafford did not dwell on the theme of life's sorrows and trials, instead, focused in the third stanza on the redemptive work of Christ, and in the fourth verse, anticipates His glorious second coming. (Refer below for Cyber Hymnal's link)

    Composer Philip Bliss

    Philip P. Bliss, the hymn composer, was a prolific writer of gospel songs. He was so impressed with the experience and expression of Spafford's text that he shortly wrote the music for it, first published in one of the praise hymn book, Sankey-Bliss Hymnals, Gospel Hymns No. 2. Shortly after writing 'It is Well With My Soul,' Bliss died in a tragic train accident.

    On reflection, it is divinely amazing that one could experience such personal tragedies and sorrows as did Horatio Spafford, yet, able to say with such convincing clarity, "It is well with my soul." It is an enormous challenge to embrace the significance of this hymn.

    Both of these hymns are masterpieces IMO.

    So has anyone ever pondered "Ninety Nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall" for an invitation hymn?

    I second both of these choices. It is Well with My Soul is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard.
    AMEN!! :godisgood:

    I would also submit a contemporary song , All I Have is Christ.

    It's hard to say as my "favorites" change all the time.

    I've always loved Tis Finished! The Messiah Dies! because there is more theology in that one song than I hear in a dozen sermons from some preachers.

    Right now, I really enjoy singing along with Dailey and Vincent's version of I Am Resolved and my son and I enjoy singing their arrangement of Camping in Canaan's Land.

    But this is also a version of that song I love:

    Faith:
    Non Baptist Christian
    Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted.
    Stricken, smitten, and afflicted,
    See him dying on the tree!
    This is Christ, by man rejected;
    Here, my soul, your Savior see.
    He’s the long expected prophet,
    David’s son, yet David’s Lord.
    Proofs I see sufficient of it:
    He’s the true and faithful Word.

    Tell me, all who hear him groaning,
    Was there ever grief like this?
    Friends through fear his cause disowning,
    Foes insulting his distress;
    Many hands were raised to wound him,
    None would intervene to save;
    But the deepest stroke that pierced him
    Was the stroke that justice gave.

    You who think of sin but lightly
    Nor suppose the evil great
    Here may view its nature rightly,
    Here its guilt may estimate.
    Mark the sacrifice appointed;
    See who bears the awful load;
    It’s the Word, the Lord’s Anointed,
    Son of Man and son of God.

    Here we have a firm foundation;
    Here the refuge of the lost;
    Christ, the rock of our salvation,
    His the name of which we boast.
    Lamb of God, for sinners wounded,
    Sacrifice to cancel guilt!
    None shall ever be confounded
    Who on him their hope have built.

    Sons we are through God's election

    Sons we are through God's election
    Who in Jesus Christ alone
    By eternal destination
    Sov'regin grace we here receive
    Lord thy mercy, Lord thy mercy
    Does both grace and glory give

    Ev'ry fallen soul by sinning
    Merits everlasting pain
    But thy love, without beginning
    Has restored thy sons again
    Countless Millions, countless millions
    Shall in life through Jesus reign

    Pause, my soul, adore and wonder
    Ask, O why such love for me?
    Grace has put me in the number
    Of the Saviour's family
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Thanks, eternal thanks to thee!

    Since that love had no beginning
    And shall never, never cease
    Keep, O keep me, Lord from sinning
    Guide me in the way of peace!
    Make me walk in, Make me walk in
    All the paths of holiness

    When I quit this feeble mansion
    And my soul returns to thee,
    Let the pow'r of thy ascension
    Manifest itself in me
    Through thy Spirit, through thy spirit
    Give the final victory!

    When the angel sounds the trumpet
    When my soul and body join
    When my Saviour comes to judgment
    Bright in majesty divine
    Let me triumph, Let me triumph
    In thy righteousness as mine.

    When in that blest habitation
    Which my God has fore-ordained
    When, in glory's full possession
    I with saints and angels stand
    Free grace only, Free grace only.
    Shall resound in heav'n's land

    I have a niece and nephew who go to a local church and my nephew is 15 and is in the youth group. My niece is 7 and she is in what they call "C.O.O.L Kids", and I can't remember what C.O.O.L stands for at this moment. But on every 5th sunday, this church turns it over to them, and the kids do skits, dances, songs, and the youth group does puppet shows, dances, songs, etc. Today, there were a couple of songs I hadn't heard before, that really touched/blessed my soul!!!

    "Word Of God Speak"

    I'm finding myself at a loss for words
    And the funny thing is it's okay
    The last thing I need is to be heard
    But to hear what You would say

    [CHORUS]
    Word of God speak
    Would You pour down like rain
    Washing my eyes to see
    Your majesty
    To be still and know
    That You're in this place
    Please let me stay and rest
    In Your holiness
    Word of God speak

    I'm finding myself in the midst of You
    Beyond the music, beyond the noise
    All that I need is to be with You
    And in the quiet hear Your voice

    [REPEAT CHORUS 2x]

    I'm finding myself at a loss for words
    And the funny thing is it's okay

    This one especially did. As I attempt to get a better understanding of Him, I want His Word to speak to me in a way that I'll know what He is really about. and then the next song was a blessing to me as well:

    Where you lead me

    What is life?
    A thousand roads, a thousand ways
    Why am I so afraid to move
    I crossed the line
    I'm stepping out so come what may
    I give it all cause I'm drawn to You

    As long as my heart is beating...
    Where You lead me I will follow
    Where You lead me I give my life away
    Where You lead me I will follow
    Forever and a day
    Forever and a day

    I can't deny Your very presence is my life
    And why would I ever turn away
    Cause deep inside I know that I cannot rely
    On anything less than faith

    As long as my heart is beating...
    Where You lead me I will follow
    Where You lead me I give my life away
    Where You lead me I will follow
    Forever and a day

    This is all I'm dreaming of
    To live completely in Your love

    So this is life

    Where You lead me I give my life away
    Where You lead me I will follow
    Forever and a day

    Where You lead me I will follow
    Where You lead me I give my life away
    Where You lead me I will follow
    Forever and a day
    Forever and a day

    I am not 100% sure if this is the exact song or not, but I think it is. Either way, I love these lyrics. Wherever He leads me on my journey, is where I will go. I am His!!!

    O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
    Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
    Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
    Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
    How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
    How He watches o'er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
    How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o'er them from the throne!
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
    'Tis an ocean vast of blessing, 'tis a haven sweet of rest!
    O the deep, deep love of Jesus, 'tis a heaven of heavens to me;
    And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!
