Not having served in the military

    NAS Jacksonville
    NAS Pensacola
    Fort Rucker, AL
    Fort Stewart, GA
    Kings Bay Sub Base, GA

From a civilian point of view, NAS Pensacola was most impressive

I wonder if you might be referring to Volk Field. My ANG unit was sent there for about a week or so back in the 1990's for an Operational Readiness Inspection.
It's located near Camp Douglas almost right in the middle of Wisconsin.

THAT's the one. Went there on a couple of inspections as an IG team member in 2008. We'd spend a couple of days preparing for the units to show up; conduct the inspection for about five days; spend a couple of days writing the report; couple more days getting ready for the next one; conduct another inspection for another five days; spend a few days writing the report and packing up. All in all, almost three weeks at a time. Same with Alpena.

    Interesting area.

That's funny, Rev; I attended the MP (Air Force called it Security Police back then; now they call them "Security Forces") school at Lackland in 1987. Went back to be an instructor in1993, when they changed it to the "Joint Security and Law Enforcement Academy" for the Air Force and Navy.
