............and I think this thread could apply to most of us, but as Scripture says in another manner, I am perhaps the worst offender as to the way some of these posts come off.

The first point I would be interested in knowing from others is, if you have gotten into it with another poster, what is the trigger that sets you off? No doubt for many it is the issue. As is quite apparent, many are angered at the other side a doctrinal issue, such as Calvinism, KJVO, and others, but nothing as intense as those two. In fact, these posters seem to take unrelated threads and make it into that issue.

The trigger that I am guilty of, and need to work on, is not so much a theological issue. The dividing line for me is when I perceive someone is being dishonest, not interested in discussing issues, or misrepresents themselves, plus other issues involving integrity. For example, on the side of non Calvinism or Arminianism, posters like Rev Mitchell, Webdog, JohnDeere, Benjamin, Robert Snow, and many others give honest, sincere, well thought out posts. I have learned much from all of them. If I had heated exchanges with these types, it was short lived, or now patched up. Also, posters like Convicted, Quantium, DHK, and others do an excellent job of keeping me in check.

LOL, I do not know why, but there is something soothing about Thousand's icon of Jed Clampett. Another problem I have noticed within myself when I start thinking about it is an aversion to straightforward language, that may sound angry or cruel, but really is not. This can come from and side of an issue, but I have found my arguments with this type of language usually comes from the Calvinist side, which I am a part of. Sometimes, for example, if someone says "have you ever studied this issue, or do you cut and paste" I have taken that the same way is "you are a heretic."

Anyway, the point I am trying to make is after thinking about what sets me off, I am going to try and be on guard and either ignore it or give back a less smart aleck response. Maybe it will result in one less ruined thread.

So, what do you think sets you off? Is it automatically the other side of an issue, being called a name by someone else, or finally, as with me, someone who you think is here under dishonest pretenses for nothing more the causing division and meanness.

This is something with the help of the Lord I am going to conquer.

The point where I get frustrated is when I can clearly see that the other person is being dishonest and only interested in arguing to argue OR when they can't win the scriptural debate and start making personal insinuations. At that point there is no reason to continue discussing the issue and I generally tell them that quite frankly and tell them why and then of all things they return by charging me with making it personal and name calling when in fact all I did was state the obvious.

I think you have me confused with somebody else. I haven't been a Finneyist for about twenty years.

    1. When people misrepresent their opponent's viewpoints--either in ignorance or dishonestly--in order to attempt to 'win' an argument. This is rampant on the Calvinism debates. (This is also a pet-peeve of mine when watching political debates.)

    2. When someone uses innuendo, leading questions, and half-truths to present a particular side of an issue. (Rush Limbaugh is the master at this, and there are apparently several Rush Jr's. on this site.)

No problem. Thank you for the other part, though.

My problem with Rush Limbaugh is not his political stances, it is based on his life style and his famous phrase "talent on loan from God."

I don't have many problems with his political stances, just in the way he makes them.

some attitudes of Christians is the result of the very doctrines they hold---and in order to get rid of the rotten attitude--the false doctrine must go !!!

The thing that truly sets me off is when people steal other people's birds, such as a canary and a parrot......I know I am beating this into the ground, but TOUGH.......

I just typed a long post on my anger towards self-righteous religious bigots who think they have all the answers (and by answers, I mean cruel and hateful judgment of those downtrodden and crying out for help).

It made my blood boil just typing it and thinking about some recent religious verbal abuse ...er...ah..."Christian counsel" given to someone last night at another forum by a pack of rabid vultures....er .... I mean ....."good church people" towards someone who was crying out to God's people for prayer and help to leave a sinful and abusive lifestyle.

I erased all the details. It won't do you any good to read it. It will just make you mad.

It's no wonder lost people think we are all a bunch of screwballs.

I will do this from time to time - and the reason being is that I want folks to critically think of what they say and believe. I often am reminder of what my dad would say "Don't confuse me with the facts, I have made up my mind" referring to the close minded people he was describing.

Actually, we had a good BB discussion on this a bit ago. Some were positive some were negative.

I suppose what upsets me most is when someone will not even try to see another point of view. Doesn't mean you have to agree with them - but just understand where they are coming from.

In fact understanding someone, just may help in sharing the truth.

In addition, we must know the entire story. Reminds me of the story of a 10 K race which included an American and a Soviet - The USSR announced that the Russian came in second, but the American came in next to last! Appears the Soviet Union beat the USA.
But as Paul Harvey would say - "and now you know the rest of the Story" Yes, the American did come in next to last - but since there were only two participants - the American actually won the race. It is so easy to twist facts to make your point.
Personally, I want to hear ALL three sides of a story. - Then I will make my own decision!

ahhh....Ive been thinking the same thing as I walk my shepherd dog. I see that you are attempting to move to an objective place w/i yourself for answers. But can you move to a place where your identity is totally Christ?

When I was a heathen sinner, an unbeliever.....I would judge everything by how it could or could not profit me---that was how I viewed everything & I would just blow off or punish things that did not fall within my realm of enrichment. Till I got regenerated. Then I started viewing everything from a different lens.

Lets look at 'the good thief' story cause its been on my mind as of late. He did everything you could imagine wrong in his life.....but at the moment of encounter with Christ, he was able to affirm a place of union & a place of identity. Jesus told him that because your living out of that place, that is oneness with God, you are already in paradise. So if you are born again, you are guaranteed that you will begin to change your behavior to a more "Christ Like You."

Anyway right behavior does not necessarily lead to true identity, but true identity will eventually produce right behavior. The first looks like holiness; the second is.

I sincerely hope that makes sense:godisgood:!

This reminds me of the forgiven servant who went out to strangle another that owed him very little compared to what he had been forgiven. The king found out and revoked the forgiveness -- in other words he wasn't truly forgiven, and his behavior reflected that. I feel bad for the person on the other forum, I don't know who the person is but I will pray.

    - Blessings

There are a few areas that really get me very upset.

One is the childish picking and bullying that people who claim to be mature believers display toward each other. Not just on this board, but by the sorry preaching with humanistic view of what made a person "right with God" that battered and abused folks into compliance. I came to the place were I was hindering the Holy Spirit in my own life by my attitude toward those folks.

Unfortunately, that same mindset is often displayed on the BB. To some it doesn't matter what the post or thread is, they can't just contribute without expressing some "not right with God" attitude. To me one of the great joys is to see someone (let's say Fred) post approval of a post on a thread made by a person (let's say Barney) to which Fred had just strongly opposed Barney on a different thread. To me, that is one who is showing the desire that all be edified and seeking to validate truth.

Bully tactics and "gang" picking on someone who is feeble in emotion, mind, and or body really gets me irate. Especially when medications are involved. How some who sit in front of a computer screen have the audacity to discredit what a medical doctor or other professional has in face to face contact determined is enough that, if I were a moderator, such wouldn't be tolerated in the slightest.

It is one thing to offer suggestions or to express encouragement, but to attempt to challenge a diagnosis or medication is really beyond the limits.

This is because I lost a good friend a number of years ago. A person who happened to be an epileptic. They had been convinced by some sorry "Bible thump-er" to stop taking medication and rely upon prayer for healing. He died from complications suffered during an uncontrolled seizure. He died alone. He is missed.

Lastly, I have no tolerance for an animal that mistreats any human. I don't care if it the family pet or some wild beast. If it purposely mars a human - it sacrifices it's life.

However, the same with human to animal treatment. My wife and I keep Westies. The two we have right now were highly abused in a "dog breading farm." Personally, I think the owners should forfeit their own life for what they did not only to these two, but to all the other defenseless.

This thread was an opportunity to at least show some humility rather than an opportunity to gouge someone else.

Perhaps you are giving this as an example of what frustrates you. Ok, but what about a little humility with it or are you above that?

Thank you so much. This person - who didn't identify herself as saved or not - was asking for prayer in escaping an abusive relationship. She had no family or friends that she could contact. She was raised in teen homes. She began living with a man several years ago who was and is an abusive drunk.

She said that she had no resources and no job and was disabled. She lived in fear of him and he was very cruel. She said she knew she should have never lived with him in the first place, but now she was in dire straits for a way out.

The first five posters who gave her "counsel" and said they were "praying for her" took way too much time in chastising her for being "shacked up" and claiming that God would never bless her for it and one poster even said that she was merely reaping what she sowed.

One bright light bulb told her "that man needs to quit drinking and you two need to get married."

I was livid and still am. As a moderator, I was able to clean up the posts and I gave her the national number for domestic violence services and talk to her some about abuse and how it will never change. She didn't know that shelters would take women who had no bruises to see.

I know that I don't always say the right thing to people (that's an understatement), but I hope I never kick someone in the teeth who is asking for prayer and help.

He responded to a thread I created with "go play in traffic" which he wrote AFTER he posted THIS thread. He has several threads that he has started that I have not commented on, because I don't wish to follow around every thread he makes and attempt to get it closed as he and his 3 other friends do to all of mine.

I don't think I've ever been set off. But, I do tend to swim in the "fluff" end of the pool. I do think it's ridiculous when people argue with a troll, page after page after page...
