I am placing this thread in the this section rather than in the general area because I hope to find some very real practical Scriptural views on this subject.

I will state the subject as if I hold the view, which will make it easier to express.

In discussion over social issues with a dear friend, I mentioned that I am libertarian in that I think that humankind should be allowed to engage in whatever activity (particularly drugs, alcohol, ...) that does not harm anyone else.

However, when harm of any sort is inflicted then society has a duty to impose just and right punishment.

For instance, if a person is drunk and kills another, then that person forfeits their life.

If a person on drugs harms family member(s), then that person forfeits the right to be a member of the family.

I base such a libertarian view upon the OT Hebrew societal laws in which matters were dealt with swiftly and severely. But there was also tremendous freedom.
OK, now that is the scenario (not that I actually have that view).

One last point that is EXTREMELY important to keep in mind: The above is NOT principles for the believer to live, but for the heathen unregenerate fallen humankind that have no interest in God or the things of God other than that imprinting of the ten commandments.

It is almost never true that drugs and alcohol ever have a time in their use that they do not harm others. The destruction of our families because of their use and abuse requires appropriate laws be placed to govern their use.

Again responding as one holding the scenario:

Would you be in favor of the government taxation and oversight as they do with alcohol, drugs, cigarets... in which potency, branding, and hygiene?

Could not similar laws as are in place that regulate these industries also be formulated to extend to all other areas, too?

    That's not true.

Preachers can be some of the stupidest people sometimes- and I can say that since I are one.

And you may not be a preacher yourself- I do not know.

But what you do here is very preacher-esque.

Only preachers have the gall to just STATE stuff like it is a fact without feeling the need to offer any support for it.

"It is almost never true that drugs and alcohol ever have a time in their use... yadayadayadayada,,, blah,,,blah,,,blah IM A PREACHER AND JUST ME STATING IT MAKES IT SO,,, BLAH,,,BLAH,,,BLAH..."

Humble people, intelligent people offer support for their claims.

Same is true of cars and guns... except MORE-SO.

Those WICKED SINFUL EVIL CARS AND GUNS!!!

If you drive a car and own a gun you are EVIL!!!!!!!

    EVIL!!!!

Do you not know the harm done to families and lives by the use and abuse of cars and guns!?!?!

    You evil, EVIL FOOL!!!!
