Jesus Predicts the Destruction of the Temple

24 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”

How would you translate this ,,,,especially the first verse. I was at first tempted to just jump right over that verse in order to get to what I would initially consider core verses.....however, however the Holy Spirit has been telling me "Whoa Cowboy, take a closer look.... what do you see, perfectly hidden & perfectly exposed....kinda like a puzzle. Then it revealed itself & like wow, how did I miss that.

"Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple"

Can you see the emphasis......The significance of it?

    Can you see it also?

I'm not sure what you see here, but I see Jesus leaving the Temple for the last time, marking the end of His public teaching ministry.

I believe you may be taking the KJV English rendering and it is causing you to possibly see more than what is there. When I compare the KJV to the ASV I see a difference in 'first impression' you may have on it.

“And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to [him] for to shew him the buildings of the temple.” (Mt 24:1 AV)

“And Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way; and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.” (Mt 24:1 ASV)

While I avoid the modern translations I will personally consider the following:

“Jesus had left the Temple and was going on His way, when His disciples came and called His attention to the Temple buildings.” (Mt 24:1 Wey)

I offer this for consideration, not as a dogmatic statement.

    Before chapter divisions:

that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. And Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way; and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.

    Goes along with:

21 And a strong angel took up a stone as it were a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with a mighty fall shall Babylon, the great city, be cast down, and shall be found no more at all.
    22 And the voice of harpers and minstrels and flute-players and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft, shall be found any more at all in thee; and the voice of a mill shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 and the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the princes of the earth; for with thy sorcery were all the nations deceived.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all that have been slain upon the earth. Rev 18

Brother, I see you take Scripture for what is says also: Rv.1:1-3; 22:6, 10. I do not get dogmatic on prophecy, but I am more inclined to view this as Rome here in Rev. 18. Whether it is Jerusalem or Rome, I sure cannot see how you can take the book's own time reference and apply it to our future as is done by futurists.

Well fellers, I just think the Scriptures are saying that Jesus is just done with the Temple. Isn't the Temple one enormous structure that personifies all thats dear to the Jewish people, well He is just done with that. And the disciples dont get it-- they are still rooted there. They still think the temple is "what its all about"....they want to still draw Christs attention to it....they stand around admiring it's structure. Then he wakes them up by telling them it will all be destroyed. To me its like cleaning house....you got to get rid of the old in order to bring in the new...... but the illusion is that we can have both, right.

And just right before that Christ cries out: Matthew 23:37-38

    King James Version (KJV)

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

To me thats all very subversive. And as you will recall the Jews used that subversive pronouncement as an insult against Jesus at his crucifixion : Matthew 27:39-40

    King James Version (KJV)

39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

Musta really bothered them to taunt a man at his death.

I believe there may well be a revival amongst the Jews and a general incoming of them into the Church, but as for the old law system, it's gone forever:

.... Let there be no fruit from thee henceforward for ever....Mt 21:19

I believe the Holy Roman Empire is to be found in the seventh head w/ten horns of the Beast, the Harlot is apostate Judaism.

The two women of Gal 4 are the same two women of Rev 12 and Rev 17-18.

"Babylon" represents capitalism (as well as having religious "overtones").
The earth will return to agriculture during the millennium - each man will have his own land to till and there will be no fear of thieves or warfare:
    Micah 4:4-5
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.
For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we
[Israelites/Jews] will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

The Greek here for “went out” is excelqwn (from exercomai, to exit). Jesus exited (same word) a house in Matt. 13:1, exited a boat in 14:14, exited an area in 15:21, exited a town in 21:17, etc., etc. The word occurs 215 times in the NT and has no special theological meaning. In this case he exited the ieron (hieron, the temple complex), not the naoV (naos), the actual building. So Jesus simply left the temple complex.

The second word in question is just ercomai, “to go,” occurring 147 times in the NT, often about Jesus.

So, “He exited, and went on His way from the temple complex.” It’s just narrative with no real theological significance,

It looks like you're accusing John of bias but seem to be adding to a simple text yourself. Don't force a meaning into a passage.

How did those who hear what was said interpret the saying?
    They interpreted it literally

[it's curious that they were called "false witnesses"].

How did Jesus describe what was said? (Matthew 27)

    (1) The disciples’ introductory question sets the stage for Jesus’ teaching (vv. 1–3).
    (2) Jesus describes preliminary events that do not portend the end (vv. 4–14).
    (3) The temple will be destroyed during a period of horrible suffering (vv. 15–20), an interim period of “great distress” will ensue (vv. 21–28), and then Christ will return (vv. 29–31).
    (4) Everything necessary to prepare for this Parousia (Christ’s return) will occur within the lifetime of Jesus’ disciples (vv. 32–35).

Please tell me this isn't a serious post. Where could you possibly get the idea that Babylon represents a free-market social economic system. Especially a system which is based on individual liberty? It sounds like you may be injecting your political ideology into Scripture.

Why are you getting defensive? It is a simple question...NOT directed at you...so are you in the habit of getting defensive over something that is none of your business? But now since you went down this path may I ask the same question of you? Of course, its your choice if you want to answer it or not.

Just calling them as I see um.

I don't put my dispensational glasses on when reading a text but lean towards a dispensational theology.

Perhaps you need new glasses:laugh: BTW I don't hold to Dispensational or Covenant theology so there is no ax to grind either way.

Off the subject..are you getting any blossom end rot on your tomato's?

    Isaiah 13:9,11,12,13
Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

In preparation for the literal return of Jesus Christ to earth to set up His Kingdom in Israel, all economies of the world will collapse.

It might be wise to read Revelation. Babylon the Great will fall, never to rise again.

Is that supposed to pass for an intelligent response? I've read the Revelation many times & I've never seen a correlation between Babylon & capitalism. Now, why don't you give Biblical evidence for your claim that Babylon represents capitalism.
