I listened to a sermon he gave on John today and it just bummed me out. Doesn't seem to hold to OSAS, and says you can't be saved if you have sin in your life. Pretty disheartening for me personally as I respect the man a great deal. Also, regarding the Charles Stanley mystic thread I had a good chuckle because Tozer is certainly a mystic through and through!

Hope that he did not say that, for NONE would ever get saved if true!

His words on a sermon on John 3 were "don't expect to get into heaven with sin in your life".

Well, in that case, ONLY Jesus ever got to heaven!

Glad to see someone confirm that Tozer was a mystic. I based my comment on his book of mystical poetry which I have, but didn't take time to look for quotes from his other books.

Do you know if he held to sinless perfection, or did he hold that a Christian will not have any unconfessed/unrented of sin still left when they die?

Actually, Tozier's right. His point, I believe (and I think I've heard that sermon before) is that only Jesus can remove sin. There is no other way to be cleansed and prepared for heaven.

But don't forget, heaven is not our objective, it is our reward. Our objective is to "make disciples." We do that by preaching the gospel through how we live our lives. When absolutely necessary, we use words (with a tip of the hat to St. Francis of Assisi).

That comment doesn't seem to fit the context of this:

Thus the argument isn't that only Jesus can remove sin, I'm certain most are aware of that fact. You're arguing apples against oranges.

I believe the context, as stated by the OP, has to be his paraphrase of what was said rather than what Tozier actually said. Tozier most assuredly would not have stated that a sinless life is required for entry into heaven. All one has to do is read one of his books to realize that. Try googling that phrase with Tozier as the source. You won't get anything but this thread.

I don't know, I'll give the OP the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Are all of Tozers sermons online wherein we can find them by googling a phrase?

Anyhow, sticking to the OP, your comparison doesn't follow the argument of the OP. That said, I'd like further evidence of Tozer's sermon myself.

I'm almost positive he did not hold to sinless perfection. In most ways he was pretty evangelical in doctrine. He did hold to Lordship Salvation, however.

He most certainly holds to lordship as well. I downloaded the sermon from sermonaudio.com it's the one on John 3 (you can search by book). He also mentions how people call him "the beloved" in the same sermon. Yeesh.

There's more than 'the one' on John 3. There are actually 51 sermons on John 3. What's the title of the exact sermon, or, better yet, the exact link?

Which to me seems odd, for are we all saved by grace of Jesus, thru faith receiving Him, or else conditioned by how well we live for God?
