I love good instruments playing. I love good singing. Our church is a cappella but oh, I pitched "Christ Arose" this morning about a third lower than our normal third low (I pitch everything in a better "singing range" than most are written) and it was excruciating :)

Could have used good instruments on that one!

Personally I find the old "lined out" singing to be VERY wonderfull and edifying. I have never heard it "first hand", but someone told me that that there is a grand total of (1) church in this area that sings it.

I am going to try and find it and hear it 1st hand.

Do you psalm sing? Requires practice. I love singing the 23 rd psalm.

Your lucky there is still one...but for us Gaelic types, it is standing on the shoulders of our ancestors. Whole communities would come out to lend their voices. If its done right, the Holy Spirit indwells and all are uplifted.

    Psalm 122

You may be interested in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-l48b9GBy4 (music starts at about 18 seconds)

Sounds much like the music in the videos to which you've linked us.

The music for this is according to a decipherment of the "accent marks" in the Masoretic texts of the Old Testament using a key developed by musicologist Suzanne Haik-Vantoura. I first came across her work ten years ago.

You may very well be hearing Psalm 122 much like it was sung in the Temple at the time of Christ.

AIC..... You might like this kinda music (Sacred Harp) .... I do. Our Old School Baptist Churches are real community (with emphasis on quality of people & NOT numbers) but this style is real popular & I like it....in fact this song, I'm Going Home, will be my 1st song sung at my own funeral, I like it so much. We have great get together at funerals! LOL:laugh:

If it's music, I love it either way!

I am sort of a music lover at heart. I am partial to instruments, but love a good quartet or A Cappella chorus. Then again, I love anything sung for the Kingdom, be it country, classical, classic rock, out of the hymnal, contemporary, or out of time and a little out of key!

If it praises God, it is all right with me!

Spewed tea on the keyboard. WHERE IS THE "LIKE" BUTTON?

Early church had instruments of Jewish worship, as they borrow 99% of our church setting, format, governance, etc from the synagogue.
